When Frederica Beauchamp boards a ship for the Americas, she dreams of a life filled with adventure, but she gets more than she bargained for when her passenger ship is attacked by pirates. The heartless men kidnap her and force her to serve their captain—a fate that might be worse than death, since though he does not have his way with her, the captain delights in baring her, shaming her, and … thrashing her bare bottom as punishment for every imagined disobedience.
After the pirates bring aboard an injured man found floating in the sea, Frederica tends to his wounds and learns that he is Gaston Galette, a survivor of a shipwrecked vessel. Gaston seeks her help to overthrow the vile captain, but when their plan goes awry he is forced to use all of his wiles to save them. As the naïve girl and the seasoned sailor navigate one perilous situation after another, he informs Frederica that the only way they can survive is if he is in command, and that if she thinks things can be otherwise, she will be taken over his knee for a bare bottom spanking.
As he watches the proud, willful Frederica bow to his authority, however, Gaston worries that her growing hold on his heart will be his downfall. He knows he cannot take a woman with him when he returns to his ship and crew, but when Frederica accepts his lustful dominance completely, submitting to him with grace and beauty no other woman could match, Gaston realizes that he may never be able to let her go.
Publisher’s Note: Rescued by the Buccaneer is the first book of the Pirates of the Jolie Rouge trilogy. It is an adventure and erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes including elements of BDSM and humiliation, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Frederica is on her way to the new world (America) to find adventure but I am sure what she encountered was nothing she ever dreamed of. After her ship is attacked by pirates Frederica is kidnapped and forced to be of “service” to the pirate ship’s captain.
When the pirates have her tend to a man they scooped up from the ocean they form an instant connection. Gaston had survived being shipwrecked and is loving his time with Ferderica, she is just what he is looking for to loose himself until he rejoins his men. There is chemistry between Gaston and Ferderica, but for some reason I felt a disconnect with the characters.
I know that a lot of historical books portray women as helpless creatures that need a strong hand to discipline and keep them in line, but I liked Frederica and didn’t think that she was to headstrong but hey those were the times she was in. I enjoyed the light BDSM, Domestic Discipline, and the story itself, but for some reason I just couldn’t connect with them.
I have enjoyed other books by Normandie Alleman so I will continue this series and hope that I have a better connection with the characters in the upcoming books.
Rescued by the Buccaneer
Pirates of the Jolie Rouge, Book 1
By: Normandie Alleman
Narrated by: Piers Ryman
Give me a story of a strong willed woman and a notorious pirate and I am intrigued! This is a fast listen, but dangerous, hot and oh so fun! Federica is bound for America when her ship is taken over by pirates. Kidnapped to serve Gaston, the captain , she finds her freshness gets her in loads of trouble. This man stands for no disobedience. Though naive and inexperienced, Gaston finds her willfulness enchanting. But the sea is not for women. What will happen when he realizes her true feelings? And what of his? Pirates are romanticized, their bad boy ways bring out the want in women. I love how Normandie Alleman gives us this man, who is strong, in charge and bends at the will of a woman! It’s a fun filled adventure, with a little spanking, a lot of steamy passion and a couple to fall in love with.
Alleman’s choice of Piers Ryman as the narrator is spot on. He has a fantastic voice for this type of story. His growlie voice is exactly as I imagine Gaston to be, with a tone to make you do as he says! I loved his performance and hope he continues the series.

Federica sets sail for a new life in the United States, but not long into her journey, the ship was attacked by pirates and she was taken prisoner. The captain shows her no mercy and she is forced to do whatever he demands. After a shipwrecked man is found floating in the water, he is allowed to come on board when they see he is not a threat. Gaston’s ship was damaged and he had been cast away for days when he spotted the pirate vessel. Federica tends to his wounds and the way he treats her shows her that not all pirates are to be feared. He opens her eyes to another way of life and another way of love. Saved By the Buccaneer transports you back in time, into the world of marauders on the high seas with characters that are believable and complex. The narration by Piers Ryman is impressive. He has a dynamic voice and the multiple accents of multiple characters are impeccable.
