I woke from cryostasis a prisoner. My crime? I have no idea. I was stuck with a hundred other women, all headed to who knows where. Captive in a dank, dirty cargo hold. Then, out of the darkness, came Solair. A handsome alien. Golden skinned. Horned. The dashing captain of a pirate ship. They rescued us–he gave my people food, shelter, and promised us safety. In exchange? He took me for himself. … safety. In exchange?
He took me for himself.
But the people who captured us, haven’t given up. They want us back. They’re powerful and will do whatever it takes to find us. The only thing stopping them?
Solair.
He wants me. And what he takes…
He keeps.

This book 1 of the “Mates of the Kilgari Series” is a very well written story by Athena Storm. This story was intriguing as it had some very well-thought out scenes and story plots. These characters have very strong wills and over 100 women were being held captive in poor conditions in a dirty cargo hold, most likely to be sold when they reached the destination. Instead, a pirate Captain Solair and his crew rescued them from what would probably be a very uncomfortable fate. There is an outspoken woman on this transport and she and the captain don’t get off on the right foot due to her personality, but she is his fated mate. This wonderful story has the following: intrigue, twists & turns, adventure, action, abduction, wide variety of races, humans, danger, defiance, compromises, love, steam and a HEA. I cannot wait to read more book in this Series. As Always I love Athena Storm’s Books.

The Athenaverse keeps getting bigger and better with great stories. This one is about the pirate Captain Solair who rescues over a 100 women stuck on a stranded ship in space. Varia is the leader of the women who constantly clashes with the Captain. Very entertaining and enjoyable read.

3 1/2* On the one hand the story is very good, well written and entertaining. On the other the h is beyond a b**ch. I think the authors were trying for a strong woman but all they achieved was strident and demanding. Actually there were points where that could be said of most of the women. Here they have been rescued and all they can do is make demands and act like they are royalty. None of them seem grateful and act horrid if their demands aren’t met despite the fact the ship is not equipped to carry an extra 100+ people. The crew bends over backwards and all they can do is complain it is not enough. But the worst is the h. All the others are in the background. Instead of thanking the universe for rescue from the holds of a dead ship she is combative, demanding and acts in ways that would have gotten me an a** whooping when I was young for my lack of manners. I also hated that when the H finally got fed up and let her have it he felt the need to apologize. I never felt any connection to any of the women except for the h’s best friend. The men on the other hand were all relatable. I liked the H even if he did let her push him around when it was his ship. At no point did the h show respect to the H even though he was the captain and his whole crew were making sacrifices to accommodate the women.
So disliking the h so much I really could not rate this higher than 3. Which is a shame since usually I really enjoy this authors work. Knowing that the authors previous books were good I will buy the next in series. All the negative aside I would recommend this book. I’m sure many people would not be bothered as much by the women’s behavior.
EDIT EDIT EDIT… The author contacted me after this review and said she was doing some rewriting to make the h more likable. I’m assuming she did so and am raising my rating to reflect this.

The book drew me right into the story line, immediately. It’s easy to read and the characters are well developed by the author. The story is believable, also. I highly recommend this book! I can’t wait to read more!!!!

Varia and large group of other women were falsely arrested and put on a ship in cryostasis. When they begin to wake up, they have little supplies, luckily Solair and his space pirates rescue them. What will happen when he discovers Varia is his fated mate. Fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. I liked the characters and the story had great building and an entertaining story. I liked it.
When Captain Solair and his crew come across 107 captured women, found in deplorable conditions, little does he know he’s in for a rough ride with the headstrong Varia, leader of the captured group. Let the drama begin!! I loved reading this one about Solair, the handsome alien and Varia, his fated mate…What!? Come enjoy the fun.

Really enjoyed this story. A wonderful writer that pulls you into another world. I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC gifted by the author with no obligation
It’s All About Those Crazy Horns!
ADULT Alpha Male Sci-fi Romance and Abduction Adventure.
Earth Year 2338
Varia, ex military, finds herself and a friend, plus 105 other human women, imprisoned in an old dying freighter in deep space. She doesn’t remember anything from before except that She was being falsely arrested. She wakes up from being in cryosleep to their dire predicament.
Captain Solair and his crew of Kilgari males, are Reapers, space pirates from the destroyed worldof Oshara. They are the human’s rescuers. As soon as he sees Varia, he knows she is his mate, but he tries to ignore it and keep his wits about himself. He looks at the women as infesting his ship, the Ancestral Queen, and distractions for his men.
Kilgari men have horns, great physiques and TWO “certain” other physical attributes that make them very attractive to human women! OH YEAH!
Ride em Bareback, Cowgirl! YEHAW!

In the beginning, after the 107 Earth women are rescued, the book was very repetitious for a while because Varia kept harping on them being returned to Earth. Finally she got through that annoying diversion. I really didn’t like her character very much. Too pushy.
This book was absolutely amazing!! This author really knows how to write a book that sucks you in and doesn’t let go! It was so easy to get lost in the story. I loved it!!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Varia and 105 women were falsely arrested and put into cryostasis.
Solair finds the ship and rescued Varia and the 105 women.
But wait, there is more.
It seems that they are now falsely accused of being terrorists.
Can you believe it ?
What are they going to do?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Book one in the Mates of the Kilgari series and I want to read the next book. Pirate Captain Solair and Varia’s story has suspense, drama, danger, and romance. But the book does end on a cliff-hanger. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I like the cover of the book as it is important to me to do so. The graphic of the cover shows the pirate and the lady he rescued in a gentle background. Pirates sound so adventurous and dangerous then add that to the lady with uncertain thoughts about her future, great. This is a great read with the plot well written and characters that, to me, become live. Must read to know the ending.

Fantastic story. Well worth the time to read. Entertaining and thrilling, keeps you on your toes. Not quite finished but I will then can’t wait for the next book.
Varia and 106 other women are being imprisoned in a ship. Some still in their cryo-chambers. Varia becomes the leader of this group of women. There are a few others who specialize in one thing or another she keeps close. Their conditions start going downhill. Thankfully Solair the captain of the Ancestral Queen, traders among other things, arrives on the Frontier, the crew all dead. They rescue the women and bring them aboard. Varia and Solair butt heads but yet there’s an attraction they cannot eventually deny. What will happen with all those women and Kelgari men? And Varia and Solair? nice read.
A confrontational but strong woman does all she can to help her fellow abductees. And honorable alien who discovers that a fated mate maybe a reality for him. The sparks fly and the tension is high when these two finally embrace each other and what could be their future.
This story is a page turner. Vaira is one of 105 women that were put into cryostasis and placed on a ship. Vaira is the first to wake up and as the others wake they look to Vaira for leadership. They are finally rescued by space pirates. Solair is captain of the space pirates and takes all 106 females on his ship. Varia is a pain and didn’t really like her character till later in the book. She comes off as being really ungrateful for everything the pirates do for her. Solair suspectes that Varia is his fated mate and after they kiss he is totally convinced. Their interaction and growing love proved to be very enjoyable. Wouldn’t mind having a Kilgari of my own. Yumm. Can’t wait to see what happens to some of the other crew of women and the Kilgari males on the pirate ship. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a good read. The storyline was great and keeps you interested. The characters Varia is strong willed and a little to high handed but Salair was amazing and smooths her edges . It is a good beginning to a new series an interested in the next book.
I’ve gotta admit I really liked the story, but I feel that it left off too soon. I get that the story of Varia and Solair becoming mates comes to it’s conclusion, but the driving theme of how she and the other women get there is never answered. Now, I get that that can be a hook for subsequent novels, but before this one came to an end I would have liked at least a little more information as to the why of it all. Still I’m hooked, cause now I want to know the answer.
