I woke from cryostasis a prisoner. My crime? I have no idea. I was stuck with a hundred other women, all headed to who knows where. Captive in a dank, dirty cargo hold. Then, out of the darkness, came Solair. A handsome alien. Golden skinned. Horned. The dashing captain of a pirate ship. They rescued us–he gave my people food, shelter, and promised us safety. In exchange? He took me for himself. … safety. In exchange?
He took me for himself.
But the people who captured us, haven’t given up. They want us back. They’re powerful and will do whatever it takes to find us. The only thing stopping them?
Solair.
He wants me. And what he takes…
He keeps.

Rescued by the Alien Pirate is book one in the Mates of the Kilgari series by Celia Kyle and Athena Storm.
I’ve been on a Sci-Fi Romance kick lately. The cover and title intrigued me, so I decided to give this new series a try. I’ve liked other books by Celia Kyle, but have not tried Athena Storm.
The concept sounded good, but unfortunately the women introduced; especially our lead heroine killed this book for me.
Varia our heroine. When we meet her she is imprisoned on a spaceship with several other women who have popped out of the cryo-stasis they where put in. Their are still many women in the cryo-stasis; besides the few that’s tubs have stoped working. They don’t know why they are their and she’s become the de facto leader. She is not a nice person. I’m not sure what the authors where trying to go for with her, but she came across as ungrateful, aggressive, demanding, and just all around an awful person/character. She was so mean to the Kilgari, alien pirates, that saved her and the other 106 women from certain death. All she did was pick a fight with our lead hero Solair. All her conversations where a fight. She did not utter one word of Thank You nor did she engage in a calm discussion about anything. Instead she was irate with the Kilgari aliens. Not sure if she got better or changed her attitude, but the fist impression of her turned me off.
Solair our pirate alien Captian of the Queen and all the Kilgari aliens are such nice guys. I like the Kilgari race, but I felt sorry for Solair and all the Kilgari. They are all bending over backwards to help the Human women. They have limited resources and are trying to make due to accommodate all the new mouths to feed and well the women are comeing across as ungrateful. As for Solair our hero, Varia showed no respect to him even though he’s the Captain and his whole crew are making sacrifices for these women. It was just sad to see these nice aliens not get more respect.
Their are a lot of secondary characters introduced. We meet several other Human women and other Kilgari aliens. The alien guys are awesome and relatable, but the human women are eh.
As for the romance between Solair and Varia I never felt it. I stoped at 30%, so not much was happening on this front only that Solair feels a strong pull towards Varia and thinks that she is his fated one and only mate. I didn’t get any chemistry between them only fighting.
I wanted to like this one, but Rescued by the Alien Pirate was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
Rated: DNF’d at 30%
The relationship between Varia and Solair was interesting from the start. The two could not seem to stop clashing. Both were strong willed, alpha types so there was bound to be conflict. The story moves along, not quite as violent or dark as I expected. I’ve gotten used to the more violent aspects of the Athenaverse so I expect more violence. But I would love to run across a Kilgari of my own. Their attributes sound quite interesting. And the book is good just a little more tame. I do hope to read more about the crew and the mystery of how all the women got on the ship and why.

Awakening the sleeping beauties
I love how the salvage ship became the love boat. It’s actually really amazing considering the way the ladies are really demanding and waspish in the beginning. I really enjoyed the way Varia struggles with what she knows is true and what she wants to be true. The authors did a fantastic job of creating this new world and the characters just seemed like they naturally fell into their correct places within it. As you read you can see where more and more connections are being made. Hopefully this means many more books by this writing duo. I can’t wait to see which couple we get to read about next.
Terrific world building, incredible tension between the hero and the heroine, and hot-hot-hot! I loved this story by Athena Storm and Celia Kyle. The cast of characters they create was awesome, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This book, from the the very beginning, had me gripped. It is funny, sensitive and enjoyable to read. The relationship between Solari and Varia grows slowly but their is a smouldering passion between them from the beginning. I liked the way all of the women integrated with their rescuers, some very amusing scenes indeed between them. Well written and fun to read.

Varia and 105 other women from earth are falsely arrested, put into cryostasis and stashed on a ship. Vaira is the first to wake up and they are in a dark hold with little light, food, or sanitary needs. As the other women wake, Varia becomes the leader of their group, since she is former military and has the skills needed. After a week, they are rescued by space pirates. Solair is the captain and brings all 106 women aboard their ship and takes what supplies are available from the other ship. When he boards, all of the crew are dead, with no apparent cause. As they are salvaging what they can, the auto destruct sequence is tripped. They barely escape and get far enough away to survive. Solair is immediately attracked to Varia and knows she is his fated mate, although it takes some work to convince her. Follow them on their struggle to combine the two groups and work out the logistics. None of the women have any idea why they were chosen, other than they are all single women with little or no family to miss them. They all want to return to earth, until they hear a news alert that they are wanted as terrorists for blowing up an IHC colony. Now they are on the run from everyone and have no way to clear their names, or even find out who or why they were targeted. This was a great book, and I couldn’t put it down. I see the beginning of another series!!

The Kilgari race was different and in a very special way. Um, Um! It’s hot in here! Although they were not weak, ferocity and brutality were not part of them, but rather they had smooth moves and tried to keep up with the needs of their women. With a large group of women adrift, they had to face lot of changes and embrace the rare gift they had received. Easy to say but not easy to do, and the golden skinned and horned Captain was on edge, with his patience at its limits and reconsidering the mystery he had revealed. Skilled and fierce women, drama, amusing situations, a mystery, yet to reveal, romance and heated passion. Liked these pirate knights and the human women crew.
Over 100 women were being held captive in poor conditions in a dirty cargo hold, most likely to be sold when they reached the destination. Instead, a pirate Captain Solair and his crew rescued them from what would probably be a very uncomfortable fate. Varia was chosen to be the spokesperson for the group. Unfortunately, she was a fairly disagreeable heroine, probably not liked very well by the readers (raising my hand high), and seemed most ungrateful for the rescue, food, shelter, and safety provided by the pirates.
Solair suspected that he was her fated mate, and a kiss convinced him of that fact. I can understand wanting a strong heroine, but it felt at times like “strong” was being more like willful and stubborn and not an attractive trait.
The story line wasn’t bad, and I liked Solair – even pitied him at times. But the shrew bothered me so that no matter what she might do later, I wouldn’t like her. Grab your copy and see if the bad guys come after their bounty again, and whether Solair and his crew will be able to keep everyone safe if that happens!
Well I have been reading books by Athena Storm for a while now and let me say “Rescued by the Alien Pirate” was a lovely fast read. It kept me reading till the end. Once I started I could not put down. Highly recommend that you grab it up. Look forward to reading more by this author. Every book she writes keeps getting better and better.

I love Alien Romance books and this is the first one I have read from this author. I took me until nearly 3/4 of the book to actually to start to like Varia, the heroine. I found her to be extremely bossy (throughout most of the book), when she should have been grateful to Solair for rescuing her and the other females from the ship that they were left to die on. I found Solair to be witty, sexy and handsome – not to mention a great captain of his ship. The writing was great – I enjoyed it.

This is the first book I have read from this author. Varia, the heroin should have been grateful to Solair for rescuing her and the other females from the ship that they were left to die on. I found Solair to be a great captain of his ship. Now let me just say that this cover is so cute.
Spectacular five star story. Interesting themed storyline. Fun characters who were well written. Lots of ups and downs in the plot. Read cover to cover because it was amazing !

Oh wow from the moment I started reading this book Varia has demanded my full attention as the main female character she’s extremely exasperating she’s in all directions at once a true force to be reckoned with.
Since Solair and his crew encountered a disabled spaceship his life became a lot more interesting with one sexy spitfire driving him insane.
This book is absolutely fabulous and so damn exciting and 100% smoldering hot.

This is an addictive and erotic story. Solair is instantly attracted to Varia.
They have great chemistry between them that is fun, engaging, and kept me always craving more. I couldn’t put it down. It’s a joy to read.
The characters are interesting and entertaining to read about. It’s always great to read about soulmates. Solair and Varia are made for each other. They are the perfect team.
This story is bewitching and I absolutely love this book!
What do you do when you are arrested and wake up from cryo sleep in the hold of a dying ship? Varia does the best that she can. When rescue appears in the form of a horned golden-skinned adonis, Varia opts to take charge as best she can to make sure none of her fellow former prisoners wind up in worse circumstances.
Solair answers an SOS beacon. After finding the crew dead, he’s thinking he may have hit the jackpot and be able to keep the contents of the ship’s hold. To his surprise, he finds no regular cargo.
This was a fun adventure. I enjoyed the interactions between the Kilgari and the human women. A lot of those interactions had me laughing out loud.
The story of the fated mates is a good, strong thread to weave these two sapient beings together. The world-building is great. I’m looking forward to seeing what other changes are brought to this mixed Kilgari-human crew.
What a book It was. Very steamy but good. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to her next one.
