Each of the books in this series is a delight to read. For those who don’t know, “go-cups” are the popular cups used in New Orleans to take alcoholic beverages “to go.” Colleen Mooney’s Go Cup Chronicles offer up fun, sexy mysteries with the kind of unique details only a native like Colleen can bring to a series set in the Crescent City.
I was approved for a review copy of Rescued by a Kiss by StoryOrigin. This was a very entertaining cozy mystery that takes place in New Orleans during Mardi Gras with a young woman, Brandy Alexander things change when she kisses a handsome stranger in a marching group. This young man whispers in her ear to meet him at the end of the parade and she is so intrigued that she goes to dangerous and funny lengths to find this man.
If you’re ready for a raucous read with a zany cast this book is for you. The flirty female lead Brandy is one happy, hyper, hilarious lady living in New Orleans. Add in Mardi Gras with a dose of murder full of her foolish family & friends to make this mystery marvelous! Not a moment passes without these crazy characters creating chaos. Uncertainty about the status of her relationship with her main man plus an unexpected kiss with a sexy stranger creates complications in her love life too. The wonderful addition of her fostering & rescue of special schnauzers weaves a trail throughout the story. I’m definitely looking forward to more love & laughs in this series.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. New Orleans is a bright and colourful place and the perfect setting for this cozy and fun mystery to take place in.The author did a really good job writing the story and it was so easy to picture the setting or the costumes because of it. But it wasn’t just the scenery that captured the imagination as I liked the characters and couldn’t help but laugh at some of the antics they got up to. The mystery was good as well and I can’t wait to start the next book. Move over Stephanie Plum there is a new girl in town and she is ready to party.
Brandy is attending the Mardi Gras parade like she has done for as long as she can remember but she wasn’t prepared for the kiss. You have to kiss one of the gentlemen in the walking parade in exchange for a paper flower, a tradition every body is happy to comply with but when Brandy gets singled out by one man in particular she gets more than she bargained for when there lips met. He asks her to meet him at the end of the parade. Surprising not only herself she does only to see him get shoot before they can exchange there names. He does whisper one name “Save Isabella”. Before she can find out more he is whisked off to hospital and Brady and her friends Julia back home.Brandy has never been very good at being told what to do especially by Dante, her next door neighbour, policeman and boyfriend since the playground. So she and Julia hang up there high heels and tight skirts in order to put on disguises and go under cover. They will go up against some bad guys with guns, car thrives and crooked cops in order to save Isabella before the night is over.
I liked the narrator she did a really good job with the characters giving them accents so they each sounded different.
Brandy seems to have it all. A best friend and a handsome boyfriend. When she sees a good-looking man during a Mardi Graz parade, she gives him a passionate kiss. She hunts him only to see him get shot. They chase all over New Orleans for clues to a mystery. I’m off to read Book 2.
Schnauzer rescuer Brandy Alexander is tired of living with her parents, not sure what’s going on in her relationship with her boyfriend, Dante, and is looking for a little fun.
She gets way more than she bargained for when she kisses a handsome stranger during a Mardi Gras parade … as he’s shot in front of her and pretty soon it seems like the New Orleans gangsters are after her, too.
This is a super-cute cozy mystery featuring dogs, intrigue, fun characters, and the Big Easy. What more could you ask for? I’ll be checking out more of this series.
Schnauzers, NOLA, Mardi Gras and attempted murder with a side of mystery and romance. What’s not to like? Add in hilariousness, snarkfest, and great characters and this read was a winner!
Narrator Alyson Krawchuk added to the fun!
Awesome book! Rescued By A Kiss has wonderful characters and a great storyline! I couldn’t stop reading and listening to it! You will definitely enjoy this book! It is a Must Add to your TBR/LISTEN to list!
If you love the Stephanie Plum series or you love a cozy mystery set in New Orleans, you have to give this book a try! Brandy Alexander (love that name!), a New Orleans native, is attending a Mardi Gras parade when she receives a kiss from a stranger that sweeps her off her feet. At the end of the parade when she meets him for a second kiss, he is shot. And, the fun begins!
The author obviously knows the culture of New Orleans very, very well and her descriptions of the area, the parades, the French Quarter and the way that a really big city is really just a small town add a lot to this book. I loved her descriptions of the characters, ranging from the family maid who knows it all to a lawyer who once was a crime fighting duck. “Where did you go to High School?” is the recurrent question when people first meet and only those familiar with the area understand the reason behind this question.
When Brandy, her newly found beau, Jif, and his dog, Isabella, are kidnapped, she escapes to find help. She ends up at a gay bar full of stereotypical drag queens and the descriptions of this adventure had me laughing out loud. The characters in this book really come alive with the great dialogues and descriptions.
The inclusion of Brandy’s love for rescuing Schnauzers added a lot to my reading pleasure as well. The dogs made the story even more enjoyable. I will definitely be reading more books in this series when I want a light-hearted, often LOL cozy mystery.
The narrator, Alyson Krawchuk, does a great job and her pronunciations were perfect (not an easy task!). The only complaint that I have with the book is the extremely long pauses at the end of each chapter. These pauses were so long that I thought my device had malfunctioned!
I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the narrator/publisher/author and chose to review it.
A kiss at a Mardi Gras parade leads to the wildest New Orleans adventure you’re likely ever to find in this brilliantly entertaining story about gangsters and dogs and oil rights.
I haven’t had this much fun in ages.
My first read of this author. She did not let me down. This was a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.
Wow what a great first book in a series! I’m moving on to the rest! Just purchased them all!
Meet Brandy Alexander, a lady from New Orleans with a talent for stumbling into murder. She’s smart, sassy and a little too curious for her own good. Welcome to The Big Easy, y’all. You’ll love Brandy’s world.
Rescued by a Kiss is Book 1 in a New Orleans Go Cup Mystery by Colleen Mooney. The story opens with a backdrop of Mardi Gras parade. Brandi Alexander is drawn to a handsome man with paper flowers. In true New Orleans fashion, they kiss; and, what a kiss it was! This begins a wild few days. Mr “good kisser” or Jiff is shot, Brandy saves Jiff’s Schnauzer, Isabella, all while running from very bad guys. Alyson Krawchuk did a fabulous job of bringing the book to life. Rescued by a Kiss is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Get some coffee or drink of your choice and settle in for an enjoyable audio escape.
A good book!
I listened to the audio version. So I’ll start with the narration. I had to get used to the narrator, but that’s always the case with me. That isn’t a bad thing, it’s just because I’m not a native English speaker, so I have to pause it every now and again at the start. But then I got used to it and it was good. I’d have liked it even more if it were a little more natural. But the accents were done well. 4 stars seems to me to be fair.
Then the story itself, because that’s what it’s all about after all! It’s mostly rom com with a bit of mystery thrown in. There were many things to love. The lightheartedness, the pace, the fun. The quirkiness! I can always appreciate a bit of quirk. But maybe it was taken a little too far at times, to the point where it got hard to believe. But it was well written and humorous! So, I believe that once again, 4 stars are fair.
Al in all I can honestly say that I would recommend this!
Rescued by a Kiss isn’t much of a mystery. But, it is a cute romantic comedy. At times the stupidity of the main character was too much for me. This book just seemed to be all over the place.
Rescued by a Kiss is the first of Colleen Mooney’s books I’ve listened to, and it was FAB-U-LOUS! The characters have SUCH big personalities, which include weaknesses, like the rest of us, so I completely related to them. New Orleans came alive to me through her descriptions, and was gorgeous! The criminal element was just dark enough to make me anxious about what would happen next, but not so much that it ruined the fun in the story. The ending was terrific and funny. I cant wait for the next listen!
