Rescue Me is book #.5 of the Between Heaven and Hell series by Heather R. Blair. This is my very first book by Heather and first, I just have to get this out…OH MY FREAKING GOSH!!! Whew, okay, I feel better now. So let me tell you about this book.
Rett Davis is a former Army Ranger and Special Forces Operative. His last mission went horribly wrong and now all Rett wants to do is live quietly in his mountain home up in the mountains of Idaho near the town of Purgatory. Rett likes the solitude, but every few months, he does go down into town and visits a strip club there, Babylon, to find a woman for the night. It’s on such a night when Rett first sees her dancing up on the stage. He can’t take his eyes off her. But then all heck breaks loose and everything changes.
Izzy Kozlov has been living her life looking over her shoulder ever since she ran away. She’s dancing now at Babylon to make a living. When she’s dancing, she feels free. When she first saw him, she felt the pull towards him. Even in the darkened room she could see his scowl and somehow, she felt the need to make him smile. But before she could do that, her world was turned upside down.
“He settled her without even trying, soothed her rough edges and made her feel at home, at peace. Just like his mountain.”
Rett talks Izzy into coming up to his cabin with him. She needs somewhere to go for a few days and he needs to keep her with him. Every day she is there his need to protect her grows. She is the sunshine to the darkness he lives with every day.
“Izzy wasn’t his. Something so bright could never belong to him.”
Rett knows Izzy is running from something but he doesn’t know what. And Izzy knows that Rett is also trying to keep something buried from his past. Izzy knows she can’t stay, that she will just bring danger to this man’s door that she has begun to care so deeply for. But now she’s starting to wonder how she will ever make herself walk away.
This book! First, Rett is everything. This man is possessive, sexy as heck, tough but soft with Izzy. He takes in troubled horses and helps them. He’s part mountain man, part cowboy, ex military. He’s everything! Izzy was sweet but also tough. I loved these two together. There is also plenty of nail biting suspense involved in this. There is a LOT between the covers of this book!
The town of Purgatory also has a motorcycle club, The Sinners, who are Rett’s neighbors. We specifically meet Rhys Conner, the current vice president of the club. The next book, Ruin Me, will be his story. Do I need to say how excited I am for this book?
