Martha Benson is rescued from a raging fire by the one man she never expected to see again, a man who miraculously parts the demonic wall of flames and leads them to safety. Frank Ellis once walked away from Martha to protect from his haunting connection to fire that he did not understand. Now that he’s found her again, he’s determined to harness his mystical power to win her trust and make her his own. In order to rekindle their love, Martha and Frank need to confront their fears and rise from the ashes of their pasts.
A cute, fiery story full of passion, suspense and gut wrenching emotions. Their attraction and their love for each other still stands strong even after twenty years which speaks to readers but their relationship is not so easy to resume considering their pasts and the obstacles that stand in the way which has lots of emotional turmoil flowing from the pages and pulling readers in and refusing to let go, especially since both Martha and Frank feeling are easily understood by the readers. Although a little on the short side, the plot is fast paced and full of suspense with secrets being revealed and an unknown enemy who also has an affinity for flames stalks Martha with ruthless intensity, adding danger and excitement to this deliciously steamy romance that readers can’t take eyes off of.
Rescue Me by N. J. Walters is the story of Martha Benson and Frank Ellis.
Martha heart was broken at a early age when Frank walked away from her. Now in their present day she is caught in a fire where Frank comes raging in and saves her. Frank has special abilities that he thought would cause injuries to Martha because he couldn’t full control them but that was several years ago. But now that he has her back in his life he can’t let her go again.
This was a good but definitely quick read. Frank and Martha are thrown back together when Frank comes and rescues her from a fire. The story line had a lot of promise but I felt like it was rushed in order to keep it a novella and that part of the story was missing. I loved the concept for it and wished there had been more explored. The characters had me intrigued but like I said-it is very short and I was left kinda wanting something more. On a whole it wasn’t bad though and I definitely was into the story line and wanting to know more about Frank. Here’s to hoping there will be another book!
This was a quick reunion read for two teenage loves twenty years later. He is a firefighter and rescues her from a fire. He left all those years ago because he discovered something about himself. Not a lot on what that is, or why, but the story focuses on their relationship, and the attraction between them that flares, pardon the pun, back up again!
I’m no stranger to N.J. Walter’s paranormal reads and I bought this one since it was a great deal. Once I started, I didn’t realize that it was a novella length. I really did enjoy this one and I absolutely fell in love with the hero, Frank. He was all in from the very beginning, but I wasn’t completely convinced about Martha.
I really wished this was a full-length novel because I think their story definitely needed it. There wasn’t enough character development, so I didn’t fully connect with the characters like I hoped I would.
I guess for a novella, there was just the right amount of paranormal stuff, but I wish there was more. I do love a second chance romance, so overall, I did enjoy this one.
I was hoping this was part of a series because I would have loved to see more character development with Frank since he was still learning about what he is.
I really enjoyed reading Rescue Me! Martha and Frank were intriguing people. I liked that Frank came upon his gift rather suddenly and out of the blue. He had to find a way to understand it and figure out how to handle it.
Both characters had a lot of unresolved feelings from the past to work out. I was glad to see their second chance at love would not be wasted.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. The rating and review are my opinion.
I like Martha. She is strong and capable and so sweet. Frank is a protector and has such deep love. The story is unique and well written and the characters are very well developed. The writing is easy and flows gently. The suspense makes the story real and gives it life. This Is a very good book. This is my honest opinion of this story. Thank you to NetGalley for a review copy.
What a great imaginative story! A very cool twist to the “fireman romance” genre! Or should I say, a very HOT twist?
Although this is a rather short story, there was plenty of background on Frank and Martha to feel their connection. Enough drama to be interesting but the most entertaining was Frank’s abilities and how he handles it.
Definitely a must read for anyone who loves a good romance story!
I’ve read every book in the Blood of the Drakon series and enjoyed each one. So, when I saw this book on Netgalley, I jumped at the opportunity to read an arc for a promising new series with a phoenix! Thank you Beyond the Page Publishing for the opportunity. My thoughts in this review are given without compensation.
Frank and Martha were in love with each other in high school. Until Frank left without a word. Martha was left trying to put her heart back together and Frank did everything he could to protect the ones he loved…by staying away. Many years later, their paths cross and Frank cannot stay away anymore. But, at what cost?
I liked the story but felt it was a little rushed. I also thought it was very easy to determine the person behind it all. I think if the story had been longer the characters would have been more developed and would have packed a greater punch to this phoenix tale. The adult scenes in the book happened too quickly when considering the traumatic experience Martha had recently lived through. The author’s writing had a nice flow and the story was clear and easy to understand. Overall, it wasn’t a bad read, but I was hoping for more from the great synopsis.
They where child hood sweethearts that is until Frank discovered his link with fire and flames afraid he could hurt either her or his family he walked away but fate has thrown them together again. Frank is now a firefighter and is called to a fire and the person he has to rescue is Martha. Has he learnt to control his abilities with fire are is believes that he is a phoenix true Do they have a future together what will she say about his secret You will have to read to see if there is any future for these two.
This is only a novella length read but it still m,manages to engage you and keep you engaged until the end Hopefully this is the beginning of an entire new series from one of my favourite authors
Rescue Me is a quick, exciting and emotional story of second chance love and the extenuating circumstances that drove the perfect couple apart. Danger and mystery provide a chance meeting between these long-lost lovers and the debilitating secret that has plagued Frank for 20 years is set to be revealed. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the easy flow of the storyline, and the character development of Martha and Frank from teenagers to mature adults. It was heart-warming to witness the depth of their love, and to know that time hadn’t diminished their passion and connection. This story is easily finished in one sitting and leaves the reader with a smile and feeling hopeful that true love not only exists, but can stand the test of time and seperation.
I enjoyed this book but I didn’t realize it was a pnr and for me personally I have to be in a certain mood to read those. I think the storyline was good but sometimes a little coppy. Over 3.5 stars
