Fighting fires is in Derrick’s blood. Left shaken after the tragic loss of his best friend, the event forces him to realize he can’t afford to care. Love has cost him everything and the pain has him vowing to never suffer such heartache again. When he tries to start over in a small northern town, a beautiful woman steps into his life and pushes every boundary he sets in place.Being a full-blooded … full-blooded dragon shifter makes Halee an anomaly among her kind. With her eldest brother pressuring her to choose a mate, her loyalties are torn. Turning to a stranger for the night, she hopes to forget the fate she must face. But when the stranger, Derrick, shows up as the new guy at the station, Halee must choose between duty and stability or a man whose kiss unleashes a passion she never realized existed.
Both were looking for escape, but neither expected to find each other. Every heated encounter pulls them closer together. When fire strikes again, it will leave Derrick facing the ultimate choice: break his vow or walk away from Halee forever.
THIS BOOK IS A STAND ALONE STORY.

One red hot, scorching book. The sparks fly when these two meet and only increase the longer they are around one another. This book is about letting go of your fear and embracing life to it’s fullest because you never know when it might be your last. There is danger, they are fire fighters after all. There are overbearing siblings and then there is the close family you find in the fire house.

Derrick,
A few words of caution…
You shouldn’t mess with a dragon lady.
Oops! Too late!
Halee certainly isn’t a lady… exactly.
But she most certainly is a dragon.
And this is one fire you don’t want to put out!
To say I was riveted to this story from the beginning would be an understatement. I couldn’t catch my breath half the the time and the other half I was gulping air! And then, I realized it was only the prologue!
Have mercy!
I thought to myself, “If the rest of the story is this intense, I’ll never make it!”
But I did. Oh, I did… And…
Wow! Just wow.
Bottom line: So much better than good! 5 stars.
Really enjoyed this story. Genetics is not all it cracked up to be as you are more that your past sometimes. Taking time to ponder your rarity may make you crazy but knowing that there is more to your future than others think you should have means sticking to your guns for happiness,

I loved this first book to this series. My heart went out to Derrick and knew his path to love was going to be rough. Halee had her struggles to overcome but I felt they made a great couple. There were a few tears and some laughs, making a very good read. I recommend this book, and I look forward to more in the series.
I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
This is a fantastic book. There are so many layers to it, and such a touching and thought provoking story. It’s beautifully written and constructed, the characters are sweet. Impossible to put down.
An excellent read. This romance offers plenty of heat, drama and emotion. Derrick’s past is painful, his loss unimaginable, and his suffering poignant. Halee is a full blooded dragon shifter. She is torn between her own wants and desires and doing what is best for the dragons and pleasing her family. The attraction, chemistry, and emotional connection between these two is strong and steamy. A very entertaining read.
Valerie Twombly sure knows how to bring the heat! In Rescue Me, the sparks fly between firefighters. Derrick, still reeling from the loss of his fire-fighter father and his former trainee and best friend Jeremy, is convinced he’ll never get over the loss unless he starts life over, so he heads for Minnesota. On the way he meets beautiful Halee in a bar, and they agree to a smoking hot one-night no-strings fling. When he reaches Minnesota and reports to his new fire station – there’s Halee! She’s a firefighter, the Chief’s younger sister, and a dragon-shifter! All manner of complications, from her bossy matchmaking brother to Derrick’s irrational conviction that if he loves a person they’ll die, like his dad and his friend, conspire to keep the two apart – but their mutual attraction leads to more hot sex, and ever-deepening feelings. The firefighting action and the bedroom action alternate center stage in this steamy touched-by-the-paranormal romance. Superb realism on the fire-fighting scenes makes it heart-pounding. Sexy and conflicted characters make it Kindle-melting. Read this book with a cold drink and a fan – you’re gonna need ’em. My thanks to the author for the ARC, and this is a totally voluntary and independent review.
I loved this family! Those brothers and sisters really were fun and you know…..irritating. Haha that’s family for you! The story of Derrick is heartbreaking. He has lived a lonely life. Meeting Halee will be changing him for the better. I also enjoyed the crew at the fire stations.
Overall this is a quick fun read. I struggled to put down.
Rescue Me by Valerie Twombly is an outstanding paranormal romance. Ms. Twombly has provided readers with a well-written book populated by a stellar cast of characters. And dragons. Derrick is a firefighter that lost his best friend and coworker in a fire. He moves away to get a new start and meets Halee on his way to his new home. Halee is a firefighter and a dragon shifter. She has a one-night stand with Derrick on her weekend away from home. Now they are both in the same town, same fire department and must work together. Derrick and Halee’s story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle…not from fighting fires and action. I totally enjoyed reading Rescue Me and look forward to reading more from Valerie Twombly in the future. Rescue Me is book 2 of the Sparks of Desire Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
