When you fall in love with the most unexpected person, at the most unexpected time…… bed? It was my pleasure.
Age means nothing to me. I’ve seen and done things men twice my age never will. What I want more than anything is someone to share my life with and that person is my best friend’s older sister, Whitney.
Whitney Trumbolt
Ryan is ten years my junior, but damn, being a cougar never felt as good as it did the night we spent together. Now I’m struggling with wanting things to either go back to the way they were or spend every night in his arms.
Make my wedding planning company the best in the south? Did it. Ignore the way my body trembles when I see Ryan? Epic fail. Freak out when I see a positive pregnancy test staring back at me? Complete with mascara running down my face and clutching my pearls.
Looks like things won’t go back to the way they were. There’s a man in my life that doesn’t take no for an answer. He’s the one who makes my blood run hot, cheeks turn red, and heart beat wildly within my chest. His name is Renegade.

Renegade is the very first book I read from Briscoe and she now has my attention after reading this book.
If you like small-town romances and your heroes a man-in-uniform doing badass things, then this book is for you.
The overall story can be categorized as a sweet, hometown romance with little to no conflict between the two main characters and outside their relationship.
The hero, Renegade, has been head-over-heels in-love with the heroine, Whitney. These characters shared one night of abandoned passion that resulted for them to be in a situation that would be impossible to happen had this one night they shared ended up in a different way.
Ryan “Renegade” Kepler happens to be the bestfriend-since-childhood of Trevor “Tank” Trumbolt, youngest brother of Whitney. He has been close with the Trumboldt family ever since he was a young boy and grew up pining for the heroine. He’s sweet, caring, loving, thoughtful and the kind of man any woman would be lucky to have. Through-out the story, he remained lovable and a solid rock to Whitney.
Whitney “Whit” Trumboldt just got out of a messy divorce and is suffering an emotional abuse from her former husband, Stephen. She’s been slowly trying to rebuild her life but one night of carelessness from her resulted a chance to be with someone she thought would be too impossible to have, a chance to throw caution in to the wind and let go of herself and surrender to her fantasies.
Characterwise, the chemistry between them is palpable and very much appealing.
Plotwise, normally in what I’ve been reading in small-town romances where the hero is part of a task force (or police force), chances of having conflicts are left and right and dragged from start to the end of the book. Briscoe, despite having a team of seemingly like a bunch of hottie task force, didn’t do the usual route of OTT action and unnecessary drama. It’s an appreciated change of pace for what she did here. Though there’s a scene that shook all of them, it ended all well, quickly and without a dramatic flair that usually attach to it.
I truly enjoyed the story but there’s one thing that, if overdone, I would probably be pissed off all through-out the story. The heroine, Whitney, although I understand her sentiments and hesitations, I did not like her early decision in the story. I do understand the age-gap issue especially living in a small-town and with the plot built like this, I get it. It just felt a little unfair for Ryan (see how attached I am with the hero; he’s that lovable) but at least, she slowly adapt to this monumental change in her life and didn’t become a real pain-in-the-ass kind of heroine that you’ll want to hate. I appreciate how she compromised with the hero, eventually, which made things go smooth from there.
I just wish too, that these couple, maybe, get a novella of their own as I want to see them together sharing and enjoying things more personal like Ryan’s woodworking. The guy is really is swoon-worthy. And like what Ratula Roy of Bookgasms Book Blog would say..I DIIIEEE FOR HIM!!!
Laramie Briscoe gave me something that I know I will be addicted to read! I am legit wanting to dive in the next book (Tank/Trevor’s) and see what he has to offer.
And a Half ‘s
Admittedly I am a huge fan of age gap romance books so when the opportunity to read this reverse age gap book presented itself I was all over it. In this book we meet Whitney, a 35 year old divorcée. She’s a successful business woman still suffering from the effects of her emotionally abusive ex husband. Ryan a.k.a Renegade is her younger brother’s best friend. He’s a sexy as sin police officer whose had a secret crush on Whitney since forever. In an attempt to get over her insecurities Whitney gets drunk and attempts to take home a man, the man in question, none other than 25 year old Ryan. Clueing into Whitney’s emotional state and her need for companionship, Ryan agrees to give her what she needs. Their one night stand is magical but too much for Whitney to handle. She distances herself from Ryan even though she craves his touch. However, fate will reel its ugly head and the two are forced to come together and will eventually get their much deserved happily ever after.
What a great read. Older woman\younger man, brother’s best friend, surprise pregnancy. This book has everything. Whitney is about a year out from a nasty marriage and divorce. Her husband was manipulative and abusive, so gaining back her independence was a monumental task. She does this with the full support of her parents and brother, Trevor. She owns a successful event and wedding planning company and one night she decides to let loose a bit…..with Ryan. Ryan is Trevor’s best friend and 10 years her junior. He is ex army, current cop and special task force agent. He has a few demons from a bad childhood. His parents were inattentive, mean, and addicts. Whitney and Trevor’s house was a safe place to land for him.
I love that Ryan does not care one bit about the age difference, it really is a dream come true for him. He’s crushed on Whitney for a while now. He is steady, caring, and the perfect book boyfriend. Whitney has a harder time accepting anything from him. She has learned that everything comes with strings or there is some kind of manipulation involved. Ryan shows instead of tells how he feels about her and that he will be there for her. The dialogue flows well, nothing stilted or awkward. There is no over the top drama, no ow\om drama. A little back and forth from Whitney, but not the kind that makes you throw your kindle. I absolutely felt the connection between Ryan and Whitney, but even more I felt the love, care, and support from Ryan. He really is awesome. Great read, great writing, will definitely read the rest of the series. Pew Pew!
I love love love these books
Great chemistry between the characters. The author gives just enough background to bring the characters together in present day and hits some background points throughout the story. I enjoyed how the story followed the pregnancy from start to finish, cravings, pain and all. The relationship between Whit and Ryan, their chemistry felt natural and not forced or cheapened by the pregnancy. ( there’s been some books- not by this author- that have dealt with a pregnancy bringing 2 people together but everything just read forced or revolved too much on the pregnancy)
I loved that the characters got to meet Stephen together and take that obstacle on as a unit 🙂
Will be reading the next book.
Only mistake that stuck out to me was in the hospital when visiting Trev. Whit says she wouldnt want her baby to grow up with Trev (it was supposed to say withOUT Trev)
It was ok. Nothing that would make me fun out and buy one of her books again.
Older woman falls for younger man. A story after my own heart. Modern romance that makes my heart melt. Renegade is a great beach book.
Nice easy read. Didn’t have to concentrate to know what was going on. And nice steamy scenes.
Another excellent book by Laramie Briscoe. Great characters, exciting plot, romance, and a great ending.
Great read
This is the first book I have read by Laramie Briscoe, and I have to say I am ready for more. Ms. Briscoe has just gained a new fan. This book was emotional for me on a personal level, I went through an awful marriage like Whitney had, although I do not have a brother or a hot sexy “brother’s” best friend to turn to. Ha-ha! But seriously this book pulled some deep feelings from me, at times brought me to tears but at the same time put a smile on my face. I knew where Whitney was coming from and how she felt. I did not blame her or get frustrated with her about being cautious with him. Ryan is everything any woman would want, patient, loving, kind, fighting for what he believes in and what he wants. So what if she is older than him! I am thankful that the story did not dwell on that too much. Ryan and Whitney make a beautiful couple with hot & steamy chemistry but above all they have a wonderful friendship. They were meant to be together. I do not think I could adore this book anymore then I do. Thank you Ms. Briscoe!
It was a great book couldn’t put it down.
I cried so hard and then cried again reading the beginning of next book. So good.
Wonderful love story.
She’s a “cougar” and he adores her, I loved it.
Love this series! Love every character
I loved this book.
Enjoyed this book
This is the best book I have read it a while. The H and h were so realistic and easy to fall in love with. This was a very steamy romance and a fairly quick read, very funny in places and sad in others. Make this your next read. You won’t be sorry!
This is the first book in The Moonshine Task Force Series and it started with a BANG! Laramie has outdone herself with this story. I loved every minute of it and could not get enough. When I got to the last page I was swiping my Kindle looking for more wanting more because this couple is so off the hook I needed more.
Renegade is your super Alpha male that knows what he wants and goes for it. He does not let anything or anyone get in his way. He is loving his job but wants more out of life. He is looking for a woman to settle down with and raise a family. He knows who that woman is and he goes after her and after one of pure bliss he knows he wants more he wants her every night no matter what. Only there is a slight problem she is his best friends sister and older than he is. So he is wondering if she will give him a chance.
Whitney is a strong woman who has been through a rough relationship and wants nothing more than to pick up the pieces and run her business to the best of her ability making it the top Wedding Planning business in the south. She is out one day when she runs into Renegade and they spend the night together and oh boy what a night it is. They both want each other but when Whitney is afraid to make the commitment. Then she finds out something that will change her life as well as Renegades.
