Vanessa Hart is the new veterinarian in town. Jake is the owner of the Renegade Ridge Ranch and a barrel racer. When Jake’s horse is injured he has to count on the new vet to treat his horse. They both have a lot of past baggage that they need to work through. This book is a definite page turner and won’t disappoint!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is such a good cowboy romance!
Jake is one of those guys who would give you the shirt off of his back to help you and feel guilty that he couldn’t help you more. He’s also a bit broken from his time in the military. But that doesn’t stop him from trying to help. What it does do is stop him from asking for help… unless it’s for his animals. That’s where the new vet, Vanessa, comes in. She’s got a few demons herself but she’s got them pretty much under control. But when they meet up the sparks fly and it just keeps getting hotter from there.
Jake is a rancher trying to keep the ranch he inherited from his father running. He is in debt with a mean loan shark that complicates his life a lot.
Vanessa is a vet who has just arrived at Renegade Ridge.
They don’t start well; Vanessa assuming that Jake mistreat his horse and Jake assuming she has no idea how to treat big animals.
The story is nice although it has things that are not very credible for example what Jake does at the end of the story (sorry I don’t want to give away the story). And the whole mystery is unresolved at the end. I suppose there will be some answers in the next book.
All in all, I enjoyed the book.
Ex-army ranger Jake Morrow returns home from Afghanistan with PTSD, only to discover that his father is dying. Falling into debt due to the large medical bills, Jake turns to the loan shark Kessler for the funds to keep from losing his inherited ranch. Jake takes his favorite mare Tamara to a barrel-racing competition to try and earn some prize money, but his horse slips and injures her leg instead.
Jake calls the local vet, only to find out that the old doc has sold his practice to the young and very beautiful Dr. Vanessa Hart.
Jake feels instantly drawn to Vanessa, but doesn’t want to act on the attraction. He feels shame due to the fact that whenever he cannot make his payments, Kessler requires him to rough up some of his other customers to get them to pay. He tries to push her away, but ends up having to go see her to apologize. This leads to a date and a fledgling relationship, but will Jake’s secrets place Vanessa in danger and end the romance before it truly begins?
I liked the beginning of the book. The characters were interesting, and the dialogue was lively and a touch snarky. The characters had a nice chemistry.
I have to say that I found it a bit odd that Jake was going around town roughing people up for the loan shark. I just couldn’t get the nice guy Jake to gel with the thug. I also struggled with the way that several of the plot ideas seemed to be introduced and then dropped. This happened with ever increasing speed as the story progressed. The last half of the book became rather confusing, since the author never finished off any ideas completely, leaving the reader to guess. By the time the last few chapters rolled around, I was flipping backwards to see if I had missed something, since so much was missing.
Overall, this one started out well, but fizzled for me later on. That cover sure is yummy though!
I received an ARC of this book, and I voluntarily chose to write an honest review.
Jake own a dairy ranch and a former military officer and Vanessa is the new vet in town. When Jake’s favorite horse is injured, they call the vet. Jake thinks she’s beautiful but doesn’t think she knows anything about horses. They finally start to be friends but someone sets his barn on fire with Vanessa inside. Then they start dating and someone shoots at Vanessa and shoots Jake. Can they get their happily ever after or will Jake lose her?
Fair story. Secrets, suspense and sex. This story is told in a third person point of view but it’s Jake’s view. There may have been 2 or 3 pages with Vanessa’s pov. Plus there is a cliffhanger. Their story continues in another book.
Terrific
This was a great beginning to this series. Jake’s horse gets injured at a rodeo and she is his best horse. The new vet Vanessa comes out and they don’t hit it off right away. But time will tell.
One of the most romantic Romance Novels of the year!
Arabella Steedly writes some of the most beautiful and steamy love stories, and in this reader/reviewer’s opinion, “Renegade Ridge” is one of her best! You can read the blurb to find out more about the story’s premise, but what I want to tell you is this: this romance has non-stop action, steamy “get to know you” and “can’s keep my hands off you” scenes, and enough chemistry to keep any reader romantically happy! But first Jake and Vanessa need to get through some extremely hard history, so they can open to each other mentally and emotionally. Then, events intervene which keep Jake, Vanessa and the reader moving swiftly through character angst, perilous situations, and deep emotions. By Chapter 13 of “Renegade Ridge”, I needed a glass of wine and some uninterrupted time in front of the fireplace, under my comforter reading this book! As a result, I am now a fervent Arabella Steedly fan-girl, and will be reading everything she writes. I was given an ARC copy of “Renegade Ridge” to prepare this honest voluntary review; however, I have already purchased a copy to own in support of this VERY talented author. Besides, there is bonus content!! So, for your next read, I STRONGLY suggest you pick up your copy of “Renegade Ridge” by Arabella Steedly today! Happy pages!
A NICE READ!!!
A well written, easy to follow read with twists and turns that keep you captivated from the very beginning to the last word. The main characters has to deal with attempted murder, assault, loss, heartbreak, learning to trust. They were at odds at first then it slowly turned into much more. They continue to have to watch their backs.
