From the elegently appointed drawing rooms of London’s most exclusive clubs to an imposing country estate in the heart of Dorset, comes a provocative tale of a free-thinking beauty, a dignified lord, and a mad impetuous love that defied all logic . . .Augusta Ballinger was quite sure that it was all a dreadful mistake. The chillingly pompous and dangerous Earl of Graystone could not possibly wish … not possibly wish to marry her. Why, it was rumored that his chosen bride must be a veritable model of virtue. And everyone knew that Augusta, as the last of the wild, reckless Northumberland Ballingers, was a woman who could not be bothered by society’s rules.
That was why the spirited beauty had planned a midnight encounter to warn the earl off, to convince him that she would make him a very poor wife indeed. But when she crawled in through his darkened study window, Augusta only succeeded in strengthening Harry’s resolve: to kiss the laughter from those honeyed lips and teach this maddening miss to behave! How could he possibly know that it was he who was in for a lesson . . . as his brazen fiancée set out to win his heart—and an old and clever enemy stepped in to threaten their love, their honor, and their very lives?

All Amanda quick stories are great
I’ll read anything written by Amanda Quick!! Her books guarantee a fabulous get-away to a world of smart heroines, brooding heroes, witty conversation and romantic happily-ever-after.
I love this series by Amanda Quick. Every title has a strong female character, who, while ravished sexually (albeit willingly) by the handsome male character, still has a mind of her own and helps drives the story line along by her own strengths. Romance, yes, but also female empowerment! Wonderful!
This is true Amanda Quick, historic, romantic, oroginal. Her former writing is much more entertaining than her later works which venture too much into the paranormal. I wish she’d go back to this specialty. Would enjoy some new titles.
Really enjoyed this book!!!!
This 30-year old book has some very dated ideas about relationships, particularly in the way that the male considers and manipulates his female counterpart.
Really liked the plot and the characters . A re-readable book.
This book has a good plot and good characters. It was an enjoyable read. I’d give it 4.5 stars if possible
I read everything she writes!
Amanda Quick is always fun and great romantic escapism.
Love all of her books!
Always enjoy her books
It’s not my favourite Amanda Quick novel, but it was a good read.
I like when the romance isn’t the only focus, but it is surrounded by mystery, intrigue and a little danger.
Read any one of Amanda Quick books. They are well written, always entertaining.
Love all her books!
I have it in paperback from years ago. Love this author, so I decided to buy the digital copy. All the books in this series were fun reads
I first read this years ago. It holds up surprisingly well! I really enjoyed it the second time.
I enjoyed the characters and their dialog with each other. Not much action or romance until the end but satisfying.
This book was a good historical period read. The heroine, Augusta, managed to be interesting and entertaining while sticking with the premise that a wife was ultimately expected to be relatively subservient to her husband. I found the hero, Harry, to be a bit too entitled to such treatment although he did loosen up a little by the end of the book. …
