A standalone novella from New York Times Bestselling Author Tessa Bailey…
The last place ex-Special forces soldier, Kyle Musgrave, expected to find himself was in a joust at a renaissance fair. There’s a prize for winning, however–her name is Cameron and she’s just as horrified by her medieval circumstances as Kyle. She needs his help badly to escape her would-be suitors. For Kyle, that means … her would-be suitors. For Kyle, that means donning uncomfortable armor, galloping to victory on a stubborn steed and claiming a reward he never expected. If she’ll have him.

This little story is just all around as cute as it can be. It’s an old-style swoon worthy romance mashed up with a contemporary romance and a Hero who fits just as perfectly into the Medieval era as he does the modern. Kyle is paired with Cameron, and because this is a little novella their romance goes quick—it’s instalove—just go with it, this is pure fantasy.
Cameron is a darling heroine, her humor is so dry and quick. She meets Kyle at a Renaissance Fair and she right away digs him when he’s willing to win her in a ridiculous jousting tournament. Kyle is a hero you can’t help but love. He doesn’t know what hit him. He was so instantly smitten that he would do any ridiculous thing he had to in order to spend more time with her, and wouldn’t care a whit if he humiliated himself while doing it. He’s completely flustered by this love thing. As an ex-military alpha he’s not comfortable with less than full control and he has some knee-jerk reactions, but all he really needs is reassurance. Kyle and Cameron’s interactions are so cute and charming, and the physical attraction is undeniable. She changed his whole outlook on life in the blink of an eye. He was ready to abandon his rootless lifestyle and stay wherever she was. “What about your itchy feet?” “They were leading me straight to you Cameron.” Aww, so sweet.
How Tessa Bailey packs so much humor, heat and heart into one little 55 page story is beyond me. But she did, just as she always does, and that’s why she’s on my favorite authors list. The readmeromance podcast audio version is a good interpretation (narrated by Emma Wilder and Teddy Hamilton) but it doesn’t include the extended epilogue, which is stellar by the way. It’s more like two more chapters rather than just an update and it’s not to be missed. You’d be cheating yourself of some really great stuff if you didn’t read the epilogue in the ebook (in KU or for 99 cents). Trust me on that.
At only 60 pages, this very short novella is packed full of instant attraction, passionate kissing which soon leads to graphic smexy times between these smitten at the first glance soulmates. So if you are hoping to score a sure thing in a very quick, steamy romantic read featuring an alpha possessive, dirty talking, ex-military hero and a leading lady love he sweeps completely off her feet, you are in luck here. It may be low on pages, but it is high on the may make you blush, steam factor. I for one did not realize until I was practically near the end just how short it was.
The author does make good use of the time by also having this main couple click and bond emotionally, as well. It just takes place at a verra rapid pace, folks.
Title: Renaissance Man, Author: Tessa Bailey, Pages: 60, Kindle Unlimited version, very short novella, instant attraction, soul mate connection, insta love, very graphic smexy scenes, dirty talking alpha possessive ex-military hero, HEA, no OW/OM drama.

Going into this book I wasn’t too sure about the aspect of insta love. Usually I’m not a fan but some how this one worked for me.
We have Kyle Musgrave who was an officer in the military. He was a prisoner of war for 3 months so he has a bit of an issue staying in one place for very long. Kyle and his friend Jason go to a renaissance fair, along with Jason’s wife and newborn son, before Kyle moves on to his next place. There Kyle meets Cameron. Cameron is attempting to escape the fair where she is the grand prize for the jousting competition. However, her dress catches on the fence when she’s making her escape. That’s where our two main characters meet. It was quite an introduction that I really enjoyed.
Kyle and Cameron have an instant connection. They both feel it right away but aren’t sure why they’re having such strong emotions for someone they just met. As I said before, this is instalove but the author did a great job with it. I honestly didn’t care that they had just met and were already falling for each other.
I listened to this through the read me romance podcast so head over there to see what you think.
An insta-romance novella that embodies all of the traits of a Tessa Bailey classic: steamy, dirty, and flirty. And the hero is about as alpha as they get. Set in the Runaway Girl world. A fast, fun read.
Listened for free via Read Me a Romance podcast, then read the bonus epilogues via KU.
I’m a fan of Teddy Hamilton so this already head a head start. This is the 3rd Read Me Romance novella I’ve listened to (no, I’m not listening to them in order and yes, I binge a whole week/book in one day) and I’m getting used to the length & insta-love aspect of them. This one was really funny and yes the basis was sexual chemistry. However Bailey did a great job of letting us get to know the characters and letting them connect with each other too.
Honestly my only complaint was that about half way through sex the author says, “he made sure to protect them both”. Since they’d already been having PIV sex for several minutes of the story… not so much.
The epilogues were a treat ~ not sure it would be worth buying the ebook, but it’s definitely a perk of my KU membership.
Renaissance Man by Tessa Bailey is a standalone blue-collar inst-love romance novella and the second book on the Read Me Romance podcast.
Kyle is at a renaissance fair with his friends under protest, that is, until he sees a beautiful girl in a floaty pink dress upside down on a fence, stuck. Being the ex-military hero that he is – he must rescue her (wink) and in the process these two exchange some off-the-charts chemistry. Deciding that he must win this woman he cajoles his way into the Jousting competition in an effort to win a date with her as the prize. I hope she is aware he plans to do MUCH more than grab a meal with her – such as make HER the meal!!!
The Read Me Romance podcast is amazing. If you haven’t listened and subscribed to the podcast you need to do that right now. Free audiobooks. Introductions to authors with exclusive novella length stories.
Go. Go now. And listen. Enjoy!
Really cute, I’ll probably get the ebook for the extended epilogue.

This book came highly recommended to me by a trusted book friend so I didn’t hesitate to jump in as soon as I could. And I’m so glad I did.
This had so many things about it that I loved. First, there was the fact that this hero is chasing the heroine by entering a jousting contest in order to win a date with the heroine. There is also the scenes between events when it is evident that he is irresistibly drawn to her on every level. But the one thing that rang my heart’s bell was his “mine” attitude and his jealous/possessiveness that he doesn’t even attempt to hide. With a heroine who is a tiny bit of a nerd, has a wonderful sense of humor, and meets him in a most embarrassing way, I was completely sold.
Passing on this recommendation to everyone who likes anything listed above! 😉
I listened to part of this on the Read Me Romance podcast and read parts of it, especially the epilogue, from a copy borrowed from Kindle Unlimited.
