A New York Times Best Seller!Remember Us is a look back at the lost world of the shtetl: a wise Zayde offering prophetic and profound words to his grandson, the rich experience of Shabbos, and the treasure of a loving family. All this is torn apart with the arrival of the Holocaust, beginning a crucible fraught with twists and turns so unpredictable and surprising that they defy any attempt to … that they defy any attempt to find reason within them.
From work camps to the partisans of the Nowogrudek forests, from the Mauthausen concentration camp to life as a displaced person in Italy, and from fighting the Egyptian army in a tiny Israeli kibbutz in 1948 to starting a new life in a new world in New York, this book encompasses the mythical hero’s journey” in very real historical events. Through the eyes of 91-year-old Holocaust survivor Martin Small, we learn that these priceless memories that are too painful to remember are also too painful to forget.

Should be required reading for every human being. I first heard of the Holocost when I was about 8 yrs old and discovered a life magazine. The things I read were unbelievable to me, as a child. I have since read at least 400 books about the terrible events of WW2 but this one really made me feel that I was so close to it and understood the …
If you like reading about personal history, this is a very informative and touching true story.
So different from most books about the holocaust, this deals with life before the Holocaust and places us in a shtetl. I was taken to a time and place I wanted to visit—to meet people, family, a community that I needed to know to understand the changes that were endured.
Everyone should read this book.
Did not read due to the leftist preface. I have read MANY books about the suffering of the Jews during WWII. Muslims want to kill Christians and many want to saturate USA with terrorism. They hate Christians. It is next to imposible determine who is and is not a terrorist. The Muslim heads in USA do nothing to stop it. The Hispanics coming here …
I didn’t like anything about this book It is an anti-Trump diatribe and I thought I was getting a story about the Holocaust. I’d like to return it and get my money back. I have no intention of reading it. There should be a warning on the front cover when you think you are getting a non-fiction book and it turns out to be an editorial.
An amazing story of a survivor’s life. A little slow in the beginning and then it was hard to put down. The history was very interesting although it was, as expected, extremely sad and rough at times. It is hard to fathom the cruelty and I appreciate that the author spares us some of it.
I loved it.
We should pay attention to history or we are doomed to repeat it. Obviously not an original thought but it always bears repeating. This is one man’s story about his family and village. It doesn’t answer all of the questions about the Holocost, but does add one more story of man’s inhumanity to man.
Anyone who doesn’t believe the holocaust happened needs to read this book. This book is a defense of history. This book sited first hand accounts from survivors, and American soldiers who witnessed the atrocities of the Nazi regime. A very hard, emotional read
Very well written in the authors own words I enjoyed it very much
The first part is typical Holocaust horror. What Martin makes of his life is inspiring.
The author brought home the sense of personal loss he experienced while living through the Holocaust.
I highly, highly recommend this book. And a box of tissues at ready . Engrossing, horrifying, and so filled with the love of a great man’s soul, who would not be stifled, stopped, or turned into the same kind of monster that was reeking havoc across the street world. Written in the first person, it’s simple & comes thru as if you were talking to …
Many people do not believe there was a Holocaust, but the reading of this book would change their mind, I believe. Such sadness. How these countries, Germany, Poland, Russia, France, to name a few, could kill people for simply being a Jew. Many of the most brilliant minds of the time were killed. It is sad but very interesting and informative.
This was one of the most profound books I’ve ever read! It is a true walk through one of the most horrible periods in our world history. It should be a must read for everyone!
The horrors of the holocaust are vast. This books gives a vivid description of a youngman’s hellish journey through WW2, helping establish Israel and to his live in the USA. Truly a must read.
One of the best books about the Holocaust I have read.
Love history!
I have read perhaps a dozen books about the Holocaust over the past several years and though most all of them have been interesting and heart-wrenching reads, NONE have touched me as deeply as “Remember Us” has!
I found it educational in that I had never heard of that particular concentration camp and thus, had no idea what went on there. What I …
