This slow-burn romance is the first in a series of standalone rom-coms featuring heroines who work in STEM fields.

Bookbub has sent me no less than four emails telling me that I should make book recommendations. Really? Wouldn’t y’all rather I was writing a book instead of admitting that I’m reading them? But I really enjoyed this book — a great geeky heroine, fun cultural references, and a billionaire romance that actually doesn’t feel totally implausible. The story’s a romantic friends-to-lovers, with characters that feel like they could be real people. I liked it so much that I as soon as I finished reading, I bought the next book in the series. Give it a try!
Delightful surprise! If you love nerdy heroines and friends to lovers, this is the book for you!
It’s a beautiful lovely story!
Take a girl who goes out and has a one night fling
Then go three years in the future and she finds out that the man she works in her building
Toss in he is the owners son
Add that she don’t want to go out with him because of the above things that happened
Have him work his way into her heart (sigh)
And -Read the story to see if he succeeds
Remedial Rocket Science is an adorably sweet rom-com that had me laughing and growling at turns. This fast paced romp by new to me author Susannah Nix kept me glued to the chair and flipping pages. I’ve already purchased the next book.
I enjoyed the story line. It has great characters. I loved the main character Melody. The book has quite a bit of foul language. Thank you Susannah Nix for the warning at the beginning about Infidelity, mental illness and suicide topics that are in the book.
Remedial Rocket Science is a fun contemporary romance by Susannah Nix. Ms. Nix has provided readers with a well-written book populated by lovable characters. Melody has a one-night stand with Jeremy when she’s in college. He leaves her with his number and tosses out an, if you’re even in L.A. Three years later Melody is graduating and travels to L.A. for a job interview and gives Jeremy a call. Melody and Jeremy’s story is loaded with drama, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed reading this book and would happily read more from Susannah Nix. Remedial Rocket Science is book 1 of the Chemistry Lessons Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
As a nerd, I was hoping for a novel that would actually mention Rocket Science. Then again, I live near the Canaveral Spaceport, and watch every launch. Nope, I couldn’t believe I’d actually read a Romance Novel. Yes, i did read it through to the end.
A fun chicklit romcom. Romance through the eyes of a girl coder!
Really enjoyed this and Intermediate Thermodynamics. Great to read about smart women in science!
Book was sweet and cute.
Fun easy read.
Right from the beginning I loved our protagonist, Melody.
She is refreshingly different. A student at MIT with a good-but-imperfect relationship with her mother who falls for a billionaire socialite.
Srsly tho. How can you not love her?
Honestly, I wasn’t sure how Susannah would pull all of these together.
We see honestly how these two people (Melody and Jeremy) struggle in their own messy lives.
There’s a lot of fun dynamics between Melody and Jeremy. But what made me just thrilled was that Melody stands strong and powerful on her own. Even though she falls for Jeremy, hard, I love how Suzannah has Melody stand firm on her own ground.
She’s very introverted, bookish. She’s not against fashion, but she certainly isn’t instinctual with it. I feel like there were a lot of ways to relate to Melody and root for her the whole book.
I love seeing women in tech. I love seeing women in science represented. And I just loved the dynamic in this book which wasn’t dependent on sheer passion and sex. It’s not clean, per se, but neither is it a hot and heavy book. There are some really fantastic, raw, wholesome connecting points between the two of them.
Not to mention the delightful secondary characters! I was totally enamored with Melody’s best friend Lacey and her other friend at the yoga club.
I want to shout about this one from the rooftops!
I’m so glad this is only the first in the series…
Geeky girls can find love! My experience with romance has not been positive but this novel gives me hope. It helps that Melody, geeky introvert though she is, is friendly and helpful. It helps more that the man she is interested in is open to being her friend too. Very nice!
I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Susannah Nix is my new-to-me author, and I’ve always been interested in nerdy, a bit awkward, yet badass and super smart heroines, so I thought this would be a fun read.
It turned out to be a sweet, adorable, slow-burn, friends-to-lovers short romance that I’ve really enjoyed. A love story of an MIT computer science graduate with the heir of the aerospace company she happened to get a job offer from. Melody is smart, driven, hard working, genuine, and relatable. Jeremy started off as a typical heir of the multibillion empire, a lost cause with no clue about what to do with his life. Years passed, Jeremy was trying his best to become a better person, to redeem himself and be more responsible. While trying to build their friendship, they could not resist their growing attraction for each other. Throughout the book, sometimes I just wanted to shake them both to make them acknowledge their feelings for each other But everything has developed slowly and naturally that it’d make you feel like going through the relationship with them.
Susannah’s writing is beautiful, I could pick out a bit of influence from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice There are brief moments mentioning about suicide and infidelity (and Susannah had put it right in the blurb so you’d get a heads up), but nothing was descriptive or intolerable. There are no sex scenes, so if you’re interested in a clean, PG13-rated read this is for you. All in all, I quite enjoyed this book and will be looking into her next ones in the series.
Not what I expected! Started off hot, then went into a super slow burn that had me rooting for the characters even though they seemed determined to sabotage themselves. My favorite part? The author didn’t make it easy for them.
A fantastic, smart, cute and witty heroine moves cross-country and re connects with rich, handsome Jeremy, a one-time hook-up. Her journey includes recovering from guilt and loss and finding her way to happiness in a totally new job and social environment. I was totally Team Melody. Well-written and one I recommend.
Not what I expected, but an interesting and enjoyable read. (Though there’s no science, rocket or otherwise, unless you count a little IT stuff.)
Overall, I liked Melody and Jeremy, though I didn’t care much for all the cheating.
Bonus points for Lacey and Melody becoming friends, and for both over-the-top Moms. 🙂
I loved this friends-to-lovers romance! Melody is a fantastic relatable heroine and Jeremy is great book boyfriend material. Their slow evolution from colleagues to friends to more is a delicious will-they-or-won’t-they build up.
Received a free copy for a review. I enjoyed the story, even though I thought Jeremy was wishy washy. I still think that. But otherwise a great story.
