A missing mummy. A drug cartel. An ex-US Army Ranger. And a woman at odds with the world. It’s Relentless…There’s no hiding the fact that Julia Collins has issues. She’s shy to the point of trying to become invisible. She has OCD tendencies–breaking out in hives if she loses control of her environment. She finds it hard to talk to intimidating men, or more accurately, to any men. A fact that … accurately, to any men. A fact that makes working as the office manager for Benson Security particularly difficult–the company is made up almost entirely of huge, intimidating,ex-military men. But none of the men affect her the way Joe Barone does. The ex-marine is charming, confident, heroic and so sexy it hurts to look at him. Everything about Joe intimidates Julia. And that’s why, when he declares his interest in her,she does the only sensible thing–she hides.
There’s a limit to how long Joe Barone is going to tolerate Julia hiding. So what if she has a few issues? They don’t detract from her many attributes. She’s gorgeous, smart, generous and kind. Which guy wouldn’t want a woman like that by his side? So when her grandmother gets arrested in South America, Joe sees a perfect opportunity to show Julia how good they’d be together. Julia needs someone to accompany her to Peru, someone who speaks Spanish and who doesn’t crumble in the face of authority. Julia needs Joe.
But when they get to Lima, they discover things are much worse than they were led to believe. With danger at every turn and lives on the line, Julia is forced to get past her issues and trust in Joe–her life depends on it.

Another good, page-turning story – although with some nasty violence involving a S. American cartel – from JEH. The characters zip between cities in Peru and Bolivia, some dead bodies are left behind. All the while Joe is super patient, slowly drawing Julia from her shell. He is very protective, yet not smothering. No LOL scenes, but Ryan provides some comic relief.
This story was enjoyable very captivating!! Fun read with serious thrown in.
I really enjoy reading books by this author – so much fun, lots of interesting characters. Now I have to go find the first book in this particular series. Rock on!
BTW – anyone else thinking Elle and David will get together later?
Mummies, antiquities, London, Bolivia, Peru. What do these have in common? You’ll have to find out.
Enjoyed this book. I read the rest in the series.
4.5 Stars. This is a well-written action packed book with some romance. The leading lady isn’t the typical heroine. Julie has OCD and is hypersensitive to sounds, lights, etc. So being part of a team to rescue her grandmother’s best friend from cartel boss in South America is really pushing her limits. Add in her sexy co-worker, Joe, and things getting really interesting.
Joe is a great guy. He loves Julie just as she is. He gets her and accepts all her idiosyncrasies. The supporting cast enhances the story, as I got a kick out of Ryan and Gran. Callum is certainly a man at a crossroad in his life.
This book peaked my interest in learning more about Peru and Bolivia. Until I read this book I did know La Paz, Bolivia is the highest capital city in the world.
I am definitely going to read more about the Benson Security gang and their adventures.
Good book! Looking forward to reading the rest in this series.
This whole series is fantastic. I’m waiting anxiously for the next book to come out!
I’ve been really looking forward to this book – Joe has been a favourite ever since he turned up in Invertary, and I fell in love with Julia in ‘Reckless’.
Their story did not disappoint. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it called for a big dose of chocolate! 🙂
I like the blend of suspense, comedy and romance, and I really love the cast of characters and how well they work together (or not).
Like in JEH’s other books, it’s the little details that make this story really come to life.
On the technical side, there were some minor proof-reading issues, though not enough to distract from the story.
Love this series!
I love Joe! We meet Joe and Julia in the Invertary series and get to know them better in book one of the Benson Security books. This is their love story, with a good dose of action, adventure, and humor, too. Joe decided almost immediately upon meeting Julia that she was his ONE, but Julia is extremely shy and introverted and doesn’t see why he would be interested in her. Joe is so patient, loving, and protective of Julia that he made me fall in love with him, too. I highly recommend this book! While it can be a standalone, you would have a greater enjoyment of their story if you read the Invertary series first (all excellent books, too!) And book one in Benson security.
Great book!
