I give Releasing the Demons (The Order of the Senary) by L.D. Rose, 5 stars.
Blaze is a hybrid who spent too long at the hands of a vampire being tortured. He thought he would never survive. But his brothers rescued him. It took him a long time to mentally get out of there, but he just exists now. He only lives for killing any and all vampires. But when he has a run in with a female human detective, he starts to feel again. She is in danger and he needs to protect her. But is that all?
Valerie is on the scene of yet another horrific vampire murder. All signs point to Blaze. Bit the more she knows him, the more she thinks that maybe it wasn’t him. He wants to find the killer as bad as she does. Can she trust him? If it wasn’t him, then who is behind it? And why does she feel more for him than she really should?
This is a wonderful paranormal suspense romance. The characters are so engaging. I hope to see more of Blaze and Valerie in the future. The author crafts a world in which you get lost in immediately and feel sorry that the ride is over when you come to the the last page. Expertly done, I hope to read much more of this series in the future.
If you like paranormal books with action/suspense and romance, this book is for you.
***4 Stars***
A secret band of brothers fighting against the monsters that go bump into the night is a familiar trope, whether it be in PNR or or otherwise, and it’s one that tends to peak my curiosity because I want to see how the author will make it their own. And while there are a few things I’m still waffling over a bit, I found Releasing the Demons to be an overall enjoyable first in series read with a good balance of action, humor and characters that I want to know more about.
After being taken prisoner and tortured Blaze’s life was tilted on it’s axis, but with the help of his brothers he worked at setting things right and getting back on track with what he was created to do. I really liked Blaze. For all the scars that he bears, both inside and outside, and the constant battle he has going on with the monster within him, he is a good man. He cares about his mission in life and ensuring the safety of those he calls his own, even if he doesn’t realize they are his at the time. He may slip every so often, but even then his lapses are never towards those who are innocent.
On the surface Valerie’s life doesn’t look much different than anyone else’s, but the brutal murder of her sister when she was young set her on a path where protect and serve weren’t just words, but sacred vows. Valerie is one tough cookie. She sees the havoc that the vampires wreak every night and wants to stop it, but no matter how intense the situation is, she doesn’t step into the vigilante realm, most of the time. She respects the process and knows her limitations.
Blaze and Valerie’s relationship starts off rocky, but I enjoyed how it all played out between them. I loved their battle of wills and the banter that came from it. They were honest, or at least as honest, as they could be about who they were and their motives and really liked that Blaze respected Valerie’s strength even as he worked at protecting her. Things progress somewhat quickly between them from when they meet to when the “L” word starts appearing in their heads, but I wouldn’t necessarily label it as “insta-love” because to me that would mean they declared their feelings, even if only in their heads, the moment they met. There are a few obstacles they have to work through and I liked that it was done without too much OTT drama associated with it.
I was hooked from the first page, it was a brutal way to start things off, but it did exactly as it was meant to. I found the writing style easy to read and I liked multiple 3rd person POV’s. Where my waffling comes into play centers around the fact that I would have liked a little more detailed background on the Senary and specifically Blaze himself. We find out how he was created, but only go as far back as him imprisonment and the fallout from it. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story, but it would have bumped up my rating had we gotten a more indepth look at the man.
In the name of total honesty, I was contacted by the author to see if I’d be interested in reading the second book of the series and opt’d to read and review the first as well since it is a series. I did a little research and read a few reviews before taking the plunge. I will say that the comparisons to some of the more popular ‘band of brothers’ PNR series was one of the reasons I decided to give this one a go and will say that while there are similarities, the author made it her own with what each member brings to the table. I enjoyed the family vibe and camaraderie between them all and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for The Order of the Senary.

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of paranormal, so I kind of surprised myself when I couldn’t put this one down. In Releasing the Demons, Rose has created a post-apocalyptic world in which vampires threaten humanity. A world in which the Order of the Senary, a brotherhood of hybrid vampires is the only threat to them.
In this story, Valerie, a detective with the Bronx police department suspects Blaze of murder, but when the evidence goes missing, her prime suspect leads her on a journey in which she discovers that there is another force to be reckoned with. Rose has effectively written a fast-paced page turner that blends horror, suspense, and sensual romance.
As I’ve repeated before, I don’t usually read paranormal books, but in this instance, I’m glad I did. L.D. Rose has created a post-apocalyptic world in which powerful vampires rule by night. The vampires are divided into opposing gang-like groups that control different parts of the country. Manhattan is controlled by a particularly evil vampire Alek Konstantinov, and Florida by Cyrus, a vampire who has designs on becoming the supreme leader of the vampires. The only force stemming the tide of the destruction of the human race is the hybrids, a brotherhood of half-vampire, half-human, super-enhanced beings that after the Insurgency were created by a failed project, G-Fusion, that the United States government created in the hopes of fighting the vampire enemy. The hybrids were both “predator and prey” and the project under violent protest was eliminated, however not so the hybrids born from it. The world has become a scary place in which, every arm of the US government, the police, the FBI, and the CIA are united in their efforts to kill monsters and protect humans who are only free to live their lives during the day and cower in their homes at night.
Most people don’t know of the existence of the brotherhood, the Senary, or their members the hybrid Knight brothers (they all bear the same last name and blood), that are dedicated to their self-imposed mission to hunt and destroy the bad guys (vampires) and rescuing the good guys (humans). The news media portrays the hybrids as superhero vigilantes, who operate similarly to Batman and Superman. They are revered and feared.
Blaze Knight is bitter and angry, a hate-filled hybrid, who bears the physical and mental scars of torture a gift from the vampires. His entire body except for his face is tattooed to cover the scars from vampire torture. Blaze’s hybrid skill is he is a Firestarter, he can burn everything and anything when he wants, a trait that is sometimes hard to control when he loses his temper and he heats things up. Forget about it, when sex is involved, It’s going to get hot, very hot.
Valerie Medeiros is a Brooklyn cop, tough as nails, a skilled vampire killer who struggles with her own personal demons, a childhood destroyed by the loss of her younger sister who was brutally killed and sucked dry by vampires. Due to a murder investigation, Valerie and Blaze are thrown together for all of the wrong reasons. These damaged, unapproachable people are attracted to one another and share one unshakable determination, killing vampire monsters. They are about to face a threat that could virtually turn the tables giving the vampires an advantage that might destroy the human race. Valerie, Blaze and the Senary are the only hope to stop the vampires.
Who can resist a story where good and evil is so clearly defined, and where love may be the only factor that can save the day.
This first book of the Order of Senary series has me hooked. It starts out dark and only gets better from there. The light of brotherhood and love shine all the brighter for the contrast.
The author takes you on a wild, raw, ride through the ruins of New York where Vampire laws rule, and humans are little more than vermin or cattle. LD Rose is not afraid of dirt and grit or putting her Hero, Blaze, through the pits of hell and then some.
Enter the heroine, Valerie, dealing with the loss of her sister and hell-bent on destroying anyone wielding fangs, and that includes Blaze. She discovers how wrong she is and becomes embroiled in a dangerous, cruel world she never knew existed. Love and healing come in all forms. Blaze and Valerie find it in each other.
The action never stops, nor does the threat or the ties that bind the Brotherhood together. Six brothers in the Order, each with their own gifts. Each has a story, and Blaze paves the way in fire and blood.
Holy shiznet!! I purchased this book a few years ago and totally forgot about it. Then I saw it advertised and decided to read it. I’m so glad I did. This story was in constant motion from the moment I picked it and & until I put it down. I can’t wait to read the rest of these stories. This is my first time with this author, and what a gr8story teller. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.
If you’re looking for a heart-pounding story full of blood and romance, Releasing the Demons is a great place to start. There was never a dull moment in the book, the world building was incredible. L.D. Rose has created a world you want to be a part of regardless of the consequences.
A gritty, sexy and original story, one that will grab your attention right from the start, and hold on tight till the very end. A total must read for paranormal lovers
It was a great book that I really loved and I really enjoyed. I highly recommend that you check it out yourself.
I haven’t read a book as good as this one in the paranormal genre for a while. It has action, great characters and evil enemies. Blaze is a hybrid who can control fire. He has been to hell and back and Cyrus and gang are his worst enemies. Along his brothers and a pretty human detective he will get his revenge against the vampires. I enjoyed the drama and the heart stopping moments. It’s a page turner for sure. I was rooting for Blaze all the way.
Releasing the Demons is a paranormal romance by L.D. Rose and is the first book in the Order of the Senary series. In a post apocalyptic world, vampires rule the night and humanities only hope is the order of the senary, a brotherhood of hybrids intent on hunting down the vampires. Blaze is a hybrid with a history with the vampires, a particularly brutal vampire named Cyrus tortured Blaze years before. NYPD detective, Valerie is determined to put an end to the terror brought to the city by vampires and also has experienced personal tragedy she can’t let go of. When Blaze and Valerie are brought together sparks fly, but can Valerie trust a hybrid? Will Blaze be able to keep her safe? This book was great, there was so much action and suspense that I couldn’t put it down. L.D. Rose did an amazing job creating a world of danger and intrigue and told the story in a way that keeps the reader in the story even during the backstory. I look forward to reading more by this author and recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal books!
Releasing the Demons by L.D. Rose
Four Stars
Releasing the Demons is the first book by LD Rose that I have read. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Every character was well written. From our group of warriors to the women they love. Nothing says I love you more than bringing your girl into your fight(lol). Blaze has a troubled pass and blames himself for all the trouble hitting his family. The new elements the author bring in about vampires was pretty cool. Hybrids that have powers and walk in day light. Valerie is a bad*** chick. She was prejudice but had a right to be. Tragedy hit her at a young age and she kept that pain and justification real close. But you can’t judge all by one. I liked that you could follow Blaze’s change through the book. Overall a good read.

Stars:4
This story is the first story in the
Order of the Senary series. This story is a paranormal romance novel. The two main characters are Blaze and Valerie. Both of these characters have traumas from their pasts, but are trying to make a difference in their lives. L.D. Rose has done a fantastic job with Valerie’s and Blaze’s chemistry. I also loved reading Blaze’s interaction with his brothers. This story managed to catch my attention right from the start and kept it! I really enjoyed this story!
Releasing the Demons by L. D. Rose
This 5-star novel was exciting, and action packed. Vampire hybrids vs regular vampires to keep the human population safe. Vampires have taken over many parts of the world and conquered parts of cities. People are afraid to be out after dark and do their best to not be taken. Blaze is unique and has the control of fire as well as his other amazing hybrid abilities. He struggles to control himself even though it has been years since he was held captive and tortured. He fights his inner Demon the vampire part to keep from falling into the black hole of despair and giving into the desire to feed off the humans. When someone begins targeting him and those who are close to him things heat up. He meets Detective Valarie who seems to get caught in the crossfire. She has a grudge against vampires and seeks to find the one responsible for all the murders that seem to lead straight to Blaze.
The author did an amazing job with this novel. The storyline easily flows and is action packed keeping the readers attention. There is also a touch of Romance between the main characters Detective Valarie and Blaze. The main characters are passionate about what they don in this novel and are easy to like. It was easy to imagen the world in which these individuals lived even though it would be a tad bit scary to have vampires take over like they did.

4 out of 5 Stars
Blaze Knight, what a freaking cool name. If I ever had the desire to change my name, I would want to pick something like like. It just screams, I am a HardA**. Blaze is this books main character, and he is one B.A. He was maimed and tortured by vampires and his mission is to protect what is left of humanity. Not feeling very human himself, Blaze ventures out into the desolate waste ground of America….also known as the Bronx. When the demons from his past come raging back, he is determined to get an eye for an eye and have his revenge.
He meets and joins up with Valerie Medeiros, an NYPD detective who has demons of her own, be they more mental than actual demons. These two perfectly tormented people are drawn together like the opposite points of a magnet. Val tries her hardest to ressit and with the bloodshed that is happening around them, she really should be focusing on staying alive, but when outside forces are pushing her and Blaze together…who is she to deny that?
I loved this book. I tossed with giving it 5 stars, but I felt that it was a bit to fast paced for me. I had to go back and reread few passages and the relationship between Valerie and Blaze was not moving as fast and I would have liked, but that is my personal opinion, that, and I am also highly impatient.
Releasing the Demons (The Order of the Senary #1) by L.D. Rose was a fast pace, heart pounding thriller that had me hooked from start to finish.
My first read by this author and I was hooked with in seconds of reading that gruesome opening. What a way to start an as equally gruesome, dark, supernatural thriller, where vampires are real, they aren’t nice, and are slowly taking out humans at night fall. Every morning the death toll goes up, and no matter what the police do, they can’t get a hold on things.
This book was, wow, once I started reading I could not put it down. Blaze, he was truly the star of this book for me. Yeah sure Valerie was pretty cool and kick ass, but Blaze, and what he went through, his character growth was something else, and though this is told in multi POV, I much preferred Blaze’s narrative.
The worlding building and the way the info of this world was giving, felt natural and at no point did I feel like I was being dumped on or confused. Info was giving when necessary, and at times, not knowing made for better suspense for the reader. Though by the end my heart was ready to explode.
Overall this is a A class read and I can’t wait to dive further into this dark, haunting series. This book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.
Happy Reading

This is one of those books that pulled me in from the very first sentence. It starts out in such a way that I thought I was jumping into the middle of the series, but it was actually a BRILLIANT way to begin this series. I turned the pages as fast as I could while absorbing all the goodness that this paranormal story has to offer.
The story is one that has very clear lines of good vs evil. Each character is well defined in their role within the story. Like their own little clan of superheros, there are all sorts of “gifts” such as freezing or healing or pyrokinesis, and of course your average, run of the mill psychic/mind reader. There are six “brothers” so I’m sure we will be finding out more about each of these talented men.
The story was very quick paced, it was a multi-layered read that had the perfect blend of romance and revenge and a whole lot of other action in between.
I look forward to reading more in this series.
Wow, Wow, Wow! This book deserves way more than 5 stars!!
Releasing the Demons is Book 1 in The Order of the Senary series from author L.D. Rose. I cannot believe how incredible this read was. I was totally shocked at how captivating and compelled I was while reading this book. This author has created an incredible imaginative read, full of plot twists, incredibly lovable characters and a read that will last with me for quite some time. I was mentally visualising this whole read the entire time – I had withdrawals every time I had to put this book, but I love it so much I read it in one sitting.
This read was dark, thrilling, suspenseful, action packed and I loved every single page within this book. This read had you on the edge of seat with fear, anticipation and hope that they never found Blaze or Valerie. This was a brilliant take on the vampire fantasy world, it made a change for the main theme of the book to be surrounding hybrids they really don’t get as much recognition but after reading this and meeting Blaze and his brothers they have truly made their way into my heart, especially Blaze. After everything he has endured, I’m surprised he is still holding on and fighting. But everything is made even more difficult when. When Valerie enters his life its not in the best way possible – but boy oh boy does she make a lasting impression and change in Blaze, so much so he realises he does have someone more to love for. She makes him feel and he makes her realise that some ‘leeches’ are better than others.
This two have a (literally) hot connection that just continues to grow and their chemistry just continues to bloom. They are made for each other, they bring out the best in each other and you can’t help but love the way she brings Blaze’s walls down and show his vulnerability when around her.
I cannot wait to see what else it brought to this series. Who’s story we will follow next? But I will most definitely be hoping this isn’t the last we get of Blaze & Valerie’s story – as you can tell this is only the beginning.
A great read about struggles. The city of New York has been plagued by vampires for a long while. When a man is suspected of being one and murdering a woman, Detective Mendeiros is hot on the trail for justice. But there is more to the story and meeting the man Blaze Knight changes her life forever. Can she find the truth before the killer strikes again?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Blaze with his struggles that were powerfully written but also a caring side underneath or Valerie trying to protect people and solve a mystery. Great supporting cast of fun friends like Deron and Dax with humour the novel needed. A terrific villain that will send shivers up your spine. Fast paced action and high stakes made for a captivating read.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel in the art of tattoos full of detail or the statues and grand buildings of the sire. Or the use of the senses with heat and smell and taste and sight as if you were actually there. I loved the mix of supernatural with vampires and their powers and hierarchy and the sense of a crime thriller with police officers and forensics and realism of coffee shops which was combined perfectly for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
Releasing the Demons by L.D. Rose
5 Stars!!!!!
What more can I say but what a great way to come into a new author and a new take on Vampires! I
was in absolute heaven. The authors take on vampires was so refreshing. I was hooked from page one
and I didnt want to put the book down.
The chemistry between Blaze and Valerie is pardon the pun explosive. The author has a great way
of drawing out the story and filling it with drama. I really like how it wasnt just smooth sailing
for the two of them. I find it to be more relatable when things arent always just straight forward.
I really would like to read more from this author in the future.

“Fifty-three years ago, a vampire took the podium at a G20 summit in London and decided to show the world exactly how real he was. Needless to say, no one human came out of that building alive. Since the Insurgency, the entire United States’ justice system restructured itself to target monsters. Both Valerie and Deron had undergone intensive training to combat vampires. To fight like them, hunt like them and think like them in order to take them down. Although the NYPD did more than their share of wiping the scum off the face of the earth, it seemed like the vampires’ numbers only doubled. With every leech they took out, two more appeared in its place.
But Valerie and Deron kept on going, kept chugging through the endless days and nights. Giving up wasn’t an option for either one of them.”
Releasing the Demons is the first book in The Order of the Senary series by L.D Rose. This was the authors debut novel, although she has since written more books. It is a wonderfully original paranormal romance that is a little bit like a cross between X-Men, Buffy, and Blade. There is plenty of action, violence danger and adventure as the story unfolds. This was a great story- well written with a multi-layered plot that kept me engrossed the whole time. The hidden agendas and sinister forces added an extra element of tension and intrigue- while the vampire/human conflict gave the whole book a slight dystopian feel for me (in a good way).
Blaze Knight is a genetically engineered mercenary with paranormal abilities- a hybrid who is on a mission to eradicate vampires and protect the human population. He is tormented by his memories of torture and unimaginable horror at the hands of his vampire captors 5 years earlier- as he endured 7 months of hell, wishing for oblivion, before finally being rescued. Now he wreaks his revenge while still trying to put what happened behind him. Circumstances occur that thrust him in the life of a feisty NYPD detective, and his world is tipped on its axis.
Valerie Medeiros is a highly trained Detective, who along with her partner, works to keep the vampires from decimating the humans in the city. The human crime rate was non-existent, but the same can’t be said for the vampires. She lost her sister in the most gruesome way and that fuels her quest against the vampires. When bodies begin to stack up, and things take a perplexing turn, Blaze enters the scene, and danger ramps up that will threaten everything.
Blaze is one of 6 brothers who all have unique abilities. But, what happens when the hunters become the hunted? Will Blaze and Valerie make it through, or will the sinister forces win out in the end?
An original take on the Vampire genre! I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
Thank you, Ms. Rose!
