Emotional and riveting from beginning to end! This story kept me glued and engaged chapter after chapter as I got to know Piper and her family. Throughout the story we read about all the Boone family tragedies as Tucker and Piper try to piece clues together about the recent shooting and who was targeted.
Lots of suspense, complicated characters and surprise ending that I didn’t expect. I enjoyed reading this fast paced, clean suspense story that spanned over a period of 15 years.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Relative Silence
By Carrie Stuart Parks
Piper Boone has withdrawn from the world and her family following a tragic loss. The Boone family calls Curlew Island home – an island that is almost exclusively theirs. But the island is cursed and so is the Boone family, at least that is how the locals explain all the tragedies that have befallen the family.
When Piper is at the scene of another tragedy the only thing that keeps her from being a victim is the quick reactions of Tucker Landry. Tucker is dealing with his own personal tragedy and his guilt. But there is something about Piper that draws him to her and if he isn’t careful he might fall to the Boone family curse too.
Someone seems to be targeting the Boone family. Is it random due to their high profile and wealth? Or is it personal? Or is it just nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Piper is starting to come out of the fog she’s been living in over the last fifteen years and she is determined to get answers and reconnect with what she has lost. Is she really part of “The perfect home on the perfect island for the perfect family”? Or is it just a fantasy her mother is determined to portray to the public while secrets abound?
Relative Silence is full of unexpected twists that will keep the reader in suspense. Who can be trusted? That is the question and anyone who may know something – well, let’s just say they will be keeping their silence. This is one suspense-filled book you won’t be putting down anytime soon. But be warned this is no cozy mystery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own
Relative Silence is not a book one can soon forget. A book that will certainly hold your interest until the very end and keep you guessing. The story takes place mostly on Curlew Island a privately owned island off the coast of South Carolina. Because there have been so many tragedies over the years on this island, it is believed to be cursed. Piper Boone suffered a great loss fifteen years ago when her only child, two year old Dove, was killed in a boating accident, on the island. She still grieves the loss of her child and now it seems someone is after her, to take her life. After the shooting that took the lives of three women, Tucker Landry, forensic artist who also survived the shooting, questions Piper and together they draw a picture of the shooter. Thus begins one of the most interesting and exciting suspense stories to be read. You will be holding your breath at time as facts begin to unfold. A great book that has it all, suspense and romance plus enlightening forensic information……I was fortunate to receive an early ebook version of the book from Thomas Nelson and I am happy to leave my review.
Wow, this book has the action and heart pounding suspense that keeps the pages flipping long into the night. From the first chapter to the satisfying end, the questions pile up and answers are fleeting and hard to nail down until the truth flys to the surface no longer to be buried. Piper has lost the most important thing in her life. And life has never recovered since that fateful day. She spends her time donating to animal shelters, watching movies, and hiding from life on her family’s island. Piper is friendly but removed from those around her so when an old friend asks her to lunch, she decides to accept. That starts Piper down a dangerous path towards a truth she has hidden from for 15 years. Sitting next to Piper at the cafe is Tucker, a stranger that has quick reflexes and a drive to help others. Saving a stranger takes Tucker down a path that lets him use his God given talents at solving mysteries and gives him healing of his own. Piper and Tucker need to look past the lies, dangers, and misdirections to find the truth. And they will have to risk their lives to find the culprit and save the lives of not only themselves but people who have quickly become as close as family.
Carrie Stuart Parks brings her characters to life with a depth of emotions and relationships that make them feel like close friends. You want to warn them of the shadow around the corner and the danger in trusting even those who appear to be close as family. Sometimes the closer the person the higher the danger they represent. This heart pounding, suspense driven, mystery laced story is almost impossible to put down. You do not want to miss this story. Carrie Stuart Parks has upped her writing game even more with this book, and I can’t wait for her next masterpiece. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Another powerful read from Parks! Action packed, filled with secrets and intrigue, “Relative Silence” was a great escape. Piper Boone has lived a life of luxury, but it hasn’t protected her from pain. After losing her daughter fifteen years earlier in a terrible boating accident, Piper tries to invest as little of herself in the outside world as possible. She’d much rather stay to herself, watching the movies she’s memorized and can quote at will for any situation. Born into the wealthy Boone family, Piper has seen the benefit of her upbringing and the disadvantages that come with status. Life on Curlew Island is at once opulent as it is isolating.
Piper survives an attempt on her life and begins to connect with the dashing man who came to her rescue, Tucker Landry. Although she doesn’t know much about Tucker, she recognizes a kindred spirit when she sees one. Upon discovering that he can help the police find the man who shot at her
by using his skills as a forensic artist, Piper also asks Tucker to craft an age progressed drawing of her lost daughter, Dove.
As Tucker and Piper begin to unravel who could be behind the shooting and questions surrounding her family, tragedies begin to pile up–and so do the bodies. Adding to the mix are a missing family friend, a rabid reporter and a young woman who seems eerily familiar to Piper.
Family secrets, money woes and an approaching hurricane dial up the atmosphere as Piper unravels a tangled web of lies that she’s held on to for most of her life. Is there anyone in her family she can believe? Or should she trust Tucker, a man she barely knows? Will they find out who is behind the murders before Piper’s number is up?
Parks never fails to entertain and, as usual, features two new canines for readers to fall in love with. The artistry and detail that I’ve come to expect, coupled with a plot that ratchets up the suspense at every turn reminds me why I love to read Parks’ work. Very well done!
I was an early reader thanks to Thomas Nelson First Editions and NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Relative Silence is a roller coaster ride of twists and turns and perfect for lovers of suspense novels. This newest novel from Carrie Stuart Parks centers around the Boone family and takes place on Curlew Island, a private island off the coast of South Carolina. Because there have been so many tragedies over the years on this island, it is believed to be cursed.
Death is no stranger to the Boone family as Piper, the main character, has lost her father, sister, and toddler aged daughter to tragic accidents on the island over the years. Now it appears someone is after Piper. She meets Tucker Landry, a forensic artist, after he saved Piper when a shooter opened fire at the restaurant where Piper and a friend were eating. They team up and it’s a race against the clock to figure out who wants Piper dead and why.
This is a story full of family secrets, suspects, and motives so I found myself changing my guess all the way throughout the book. I was totally surprised at the end when everything was finally explained.
This is my second novel by Carrie Stuart Parks and I really appreciate how she works her own background in forensic art into her stories. I think the combining of forensic art to help solve crimes adds a unique aspect to her stories because of her experience.
I received an e-book of this story through Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
