At the onset of the Civil War, Sarah Turner’s hope to marry fiancé Josiah Hamilton crumbled when her father forbade her to ever see Josiah again because he chose the Union side. Now the war has ended, and Sarah and her family return to Pensacola to start life over. For seven years, Sarah harbored hope that she and Josiah could be reconciled, but she never heard from him again, and her father is … is pushing her toward marrying his business partner, a man Sarah has no attraction to. But when she sees Josiah with another woman, her hope of a future with him ends.
Lieutenant Josiah Hamilton has returned to Pensacola as well, as an engineer for the US Army with orders to find the original lens of the Pensacola Lighthouse and build the new keepers’ house. He still loves Sarah, but when he sees her with a young child, assumes she is married, and the child is hers. Meanwhile, Josiah is being pursued by the lightkeeper’s daughter and distracted by an apparent plot to prevent him from carrying out his job.
Who is the arsonist starting fires at area lumber mills? What will happen when Sarah’s life and Josiah’s mission collide with someone who wants to end them both?

WOW!! Marilyn has done it again. The Love story of how Sarah Turner & Lieutenant Josiah Hamilton find each other again is filled with near misses & misunderstandings. The twist at the end is surprising. The way Marilyn describes the events & the things going on, I can picture it all so clearly. It felt like I was right there. I loved the subtle way all 4 books tied into each other as well.
Pensacola, Florida – 1869.
Turner family return to their house near the bay in Pensacola, after war.
the book gives the readers a good point about the city of Pensacola and the surrounding places, with descriptions of landscapes and trips,
so the readers can imagine where the story is set.
the characters are good building, which different roles (lighthouse keeper, lieutenant, lumber firm owner, cooker, gardner, wife, freed slaves…).
they are active, interesting, no boring, lovely.
I enjoyed reading the book, I’m barely put down it, because it’s attractive, with a mix of romance and mistery, easy to read, entertaining, original. I recommend it.
Rekindled Light by Marilyn Turk is the fourth book in this Historical Christian fiction series. It can be read as a stand-alone.
It is after the Civil War and Pensacola, Florida is in the midst of reconstruction. Sarah Turner and her family are returning to help rebuild her father’s mill and lumber business. Sarah was parted from Josiah Hamilton because he left to fight in the Union Army. Now he is back as an engineer to oversee the rebuilding of the lighthouse and keeper’s quarters.
Will the lighthouse be rekindled? Will the romance be rekindled between Sarah and Josiah as well? Or is it too late?
This is a very interesting and informative book in many ways. There is even a mystery involved. The author’s descriptions were adept at putting me on the streets of Pensacola and at a working saw mill. I have read stories of the Civil War but this book gave me much to ponder as I learned about the years after the war ended. The prose flowed from one scene to another and the words felt very true to the period. It was a very enjoyable read. I will certainly look up the other books in this series.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Rekindled Light by Marilyn Turk is another engaging story with the setting in Pensacola, FL during 1869. There is an amazing cast of dimensional characters, picturesque vivid scenes and conversations that will appeal to Christian Historical Romance readers. Charming little Anna Grace, the younger sister of the heroine Sarah Turner, added to the story along with the Della and Doc the free slaves of the Turner family. There’s the element of mystery, adventures, past love that has never died and some unexpected twists and turns. Turk’s research and love for lighthouses comes through in this story as I’ve noticed in all her other books I’ve read. I highly recommend reading each one of the books in Turk’s Coastal Light Legacy series, which are Rebel Light, Revealing Light, Redeeming Light and Rekindled Light.
I received a complimentary copy of Rekindled Light from the author. I was not required to write a review; however, I have expressed my own sincere thoughts.
In Rekindled Light, Marilyn Turk has written quite an unusual story of undying, forbidden love. I say unusual because the author cleverly presents it to us as the heroine’s story, and separately, the hero’s story. Let me mention here that Turk always represents the male love interests as upstanding men if strong faith and high morals, the kind if men all women hope for.
Sarah Turner and Josiah Hamilton were to be married. When Josiah chooses to fight for the North at the onset of the Civil War, Sarah’s father forbids them to wed, and moves the family to Alabama. Several years after the war, the family returns to Pensacola as the area starts to rebuild after the ravages of war. Lt. Josiah Hamilton returns as a civil engineer for the Army stationed there and charged with overseeing the construction of a new lightkeeper’s house and repairing the lighthouse, as well as searching for the lighthouse lens stolen and hidden by disgruntled locals prior to the battles.
An interesting side story about a little girl and her grandmother Josiah meets during his investigation of the missing lens demonstrates his caring generosity and gentlemanly manner. The tender story of the estranged relationship of Sarah’s mother and little sister defines Sarah’s personality and the woman she has become.
The history of the Pensacola/Santa Rosa Island area during Reconstruction plays a major role, providing mystery and intrigue. Why are the local lumber yards burning? Who is setting the fires? Josiah investigates and is forced to do the Army’s business with none other than Sarah’s father, as his is the only lumber yard left standing, a bewildering predicament!
Josiah receives unwanted and unsolicited attention from the lighthouse keeper’s daughter. Sarah notices, and her feelings are bruised.
How in the world will the damage to people and property be resolved? When and how will Sarah and Josiah ever rekindle their love? You will be surprised, shocked and awed at how this story unravels!
I was given a copy of Rekindled Light, and am happy to give my thumbs-up opinion of this page turner!
Rekindled Light by Marilyn Turk is a charming Christian historical novel and the fourth book in the Coastal Lights Legacy series but can be read as a stand-alone.
The story is set in 1869 and the American Civil War is over. However there is still a residue of suspicion between neighbours as sides chosen in the war, loom large in memories. It is a time to put the past behind and to move forward into the future.
Losses in the past still remain in hearts. “Sometimes people get so stuck in grievin’, they quit livin’.” A life is on hold, unable to move past a moment in time.
Family is important. Family includes servants who are loyal and loving. There is a wonderful atmosphere of love within a household.
Pets turn a house into a home. I loved the inclusion of a mother cat and her kittens.
There was a beautiful bond between sisters. The strength of their mutual love was tangible.
The war tore true love apart. Is it too late or can love bloom again?
A lighthouse stands over a community. Its light has been stolen and needs recovering. This reminds us that we need to stand firm in our faith and shine our light for Jesus into our communities. If our light is missing, we need to find it and reconnect with God. Our mission is to stand firm and shine His light into our world.
I have really enjoyed all four books in the Coastal Lights Legacy series. Each book has been delightful and has warmed my heart. I adore all Marilyn Turk’s novels.
I received a free copy from the author. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Another great book in this series. Can be read as a stand alone. Loved the history all throughout the story.
Historical fiction flavored with suspense and romance!
Beautiful story with historical details written so vividly! I’ve enjoyed it and learned new interesting details.
“But true love waited, like a tiny ember waiting to be rekindled.”
