A wildly imaginative novel about a man who is reincarnated over ten thousand lifetimes to be with his one true love: Death herself.“Tales of gods and men akin to Neil Gaiman’s Sandman as penned by a kindred spirit of Douglas Adams.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) First we live. Then we die. And then . . . we get another try? Ten thousand tries, to be exact. Ten thousand lives to “get it right.” … thousand tries, to be exact. Ten thousand lives to “get it right.” Answer all the Big Questions. Achieve Wisdom. And Become One with Everything.
Milo has had 9,995 chances so far and has just five more lives to earn a place in the cosmic soul. If he doesn’t make the cut, oblivion awaits. But all Milo really wants is to fall forever into the arms of Death. Or Suzie, as he calls her.
More than just Milo’s lover throughout his countless layovers in the Afterlife, Suzie is literally his reason for living—as he dives into one new existence after another, praying for the day he’ll never have to leave her side again.
But Reincarnation Blues is more than a great love story: Every journey from cradle to grave offers Milo more pieces of the great cosmic puzzle—if only he can piece them together in time to finally understand what it means to be part of something bigger than infinity. As darkly enchanting as the works of Neil Gaiman and as wisely hilarious as Kurt Vonnegut’s, Michael Poore’s Reincarnation Blues is the story of everything that makes life profound, beautiful, absurd, and heartbreaking.
Because it’s more than Milo and Suzie’s story. It’s your story, too.
Praise for Reincarnation Blues
“The most fun you’ll have reading about a man who has been killed by both catapult and car accident.”—NPR
“This book made me laugh out loud. And then a page later, it made me sob. Reminiscent of Tom Robbins and Christopher Moore, Poore finds humor in the dark absurdities of life.”—Chicago Review of Books
“Charming . . . surprisingly light and uplifting . . . It reads like a writer having fun.”—New York Journal of Books

The author is not only a talented writer, but his imagination and wisdom makes this book a life keeper.
I truly enjoyed this book as it gives a whole new perspective on life after death.
As a fantasy exploration of one soul’s reincarnation – or more accurately, 10,000 reincarnations – it starts out strong, but in the end doesn’t live up to its promise. Some of the what I’d call recurring themes of human existence (wisdom, courage, greed and other insatiable appetites) are experienced by this soul named Milo, and often portrayed whimsically, but the novel’s final take on the riddle of existence seemed forced. But perhaps any such attempt is.
A fascinating book showing some of the many lives the protagonist has led, and his ongoing affair with Death, also known as Susie. Not to be missed, it draws you in and keeps you in.
good, fun read
totally original premise
Very creative writer–vivid imagination.
Words almost escape me in describing Reincarnation Blues. By turns hilarious, tragic, and even brutal, this book nearly defies description. Just read it. If you like Christopher Moore, you’ll like this book
Forty years ago I might have enjoyed it in a THC haze, didn’t finish it due to boredom. Maybe it’s the print equivalent of a cult TV show.
Wow. What a cool story. If Mitch Albom and Neil Gaiman combined forces, they would be Michael Poore. I recommend this book.
Loved this book! You just have to read it yourself to see why. It was very, very entertaining, laugh-out-loud funny in many parts, and very well-written.
A book of humor and wisdom and fun.
fun and funny look at the many lives of Milo-the soul who has been reincarnated almost 10,000 times and is still trying (but not very hard most of the time) to achieve perfection. If you liked the Hitcher’s guide to the Galaxy, you’ll like this. If you like a book that reaches heights of absurdity, and leaves you laughing out loud, you’ll love this.
This is a moving story that asks some very big questions about *Everything, but somehow it maintains this lightheartedness that makes it just a joy to read. A journey worth taking for sure!
Way too many lives and no real ending. It was like riding on a slow leak tire and then it went flat .
I loved the characters. It gave you a lot to think about.
Witty and inspiring way to remind us that we all just have one chance to prove our lives worthy
Strangest book I’ve read in years
