Book two of the Book of Sindal series. (Rowan)Rowan might be the firstborn of the Whelan sisters, but her magic is far from first class. Outshone by her younger sisters’ rare and powerful gifts hasn’t been easy, but she has always taken her position as leader of their family seriously. Even more seriously when her sisters are endangered and they lose—yet again—the Book of Sindal, a magical tome … magical tome of evil spells and incantations their small coven of three has been tasked to protect.
When the Dark Set, a group of mages determined to take over the magical community, comes for Rowan, she turns to an unexpected and very human source. Local cop Logan Gillespie might not be a mage, but he’s not to be underestimated.
The question is why Rowan? As the weakest witch, she shouldn’t be of interest to the Dark Set. Yet they’re sure she’s the secret to unlocking the power of the book.
Can she convince them they’re wrong? She has to find a way because the lives of her sisters, Logan, and possibly the world depend on it.

This book is told from Rowan point of view. Rowan is now my favorite. I love her attitude and how she never backs down. Everyone as well as herself, feels she is not as powerful as her sisters. Which results in her being tough on the outside. But she is faced with having to save everyone from the dark set. I got so excited reading this book, especially near the end.
Great first book in the series.
I seriously was reading this in the McDonald’s drive-thru waiting for my order. I couldn’t stop! I never thought I would love witch books, but boy was I wrong! D.G. Swank and Alessandra Thomas really know how to write a book! I’m blown away with how amazing this book was. I’m still sitting here stunned and eager to read Crown of Blood. When I was about 60% through, I wasn’t sure how it was all going to play out! I love that these authors know how to blindside you with surprises! It keeps me on my toes. If you haven’t read this series yet, go do it now! You won’t regret it for one minute!!
3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book, but I didn’t like it quite as much as book one in the series, Descended from Shadows. This book, Reign of Mist is the oldest Whelan sister, Rowan’s book. The story continues where book one left off. In that book, the three Whelan witch sisters, whose family have had control and protection of the powerful Book of Sindal for hundreds of years, are thrown into chaos when the book is stolen by the dangerous group of witches and mages, the Dark Set. After fighting to get the book back, the sisters have lost their right to protect the book and it is taken into the custody of the witches governing group, the Small Council. The sisters are distraught at losing their purpose. When their safety is threatened by a rogue member of the Dark Set, Rowan meets a local policeman, Logan. He helps keep her safe and they feel an instant connection. But when they both are kidnapped and held captive by the Dark Set, they must join together to survive and fight for freedom, while falling in love along the way.
I enjoyed this book in general, but I had a few problems with it. Firstly, I thought it was a good addition to the series and continuation of the ongoing series story arc. I liked Rowan and Logan. I felt the love between them and enjoyed their relationship progression. However, I did not like the ending to the book. There didn’t really seem to be an ending really. The book ends in the middle of a scene. Yes, it’s a cliffhanger, but it’s worse than that. There is not a full story for this couple. There’s no resolution from the climax of the story as the book just cuts off. There are no real happy times either. I feel cheated out of an ending to Rowan and Logan’s story. In book one, Phoebe and Brandon get a full romance with a HFN, but the same can not be said for the couple in book two. I really enjoyed this book right up until the ending, which was frustrating. Also, I felt that the HFN for Phoebe and Brandon was messed with a bit. Brandon acts evil in this book and we don’t know why. Hopefully that will be resolved, and proven to be an act, in future books in the series, but I don’t like it when an author messes with a HEA/HFN for past couples, so it was a little disappointing and made me wary.
Overall, I enjoyed most of this book. I really did like Rowan and Logan. I do think this book is worth reading, but I do recommend reading it when you have book 3 at the ready to avoid any frustrations about the ending. I will be rooting for a true HEA for all the couples in the series. I do like this series. I find it entertaining and the books are easy reads. I enjoy the worldbuilding and the storytelling. Hopefully the rest of the series will continue with everything resolving for the Whelan sisters so that they can all get a happy ending like they deserve.
Reign of Mist: I liked Ro from the first book and was curious how the story would continue in the next two books. This book is from Ro’s perspective and tells her own tale of being the weakest of the two sisters and gives more insight of her family. When a hunky cop enters the picture everything changes. I am secretly hoping Officer Gillespie finds some mage power deep inside of him. Throughout the book- it is a constant battle of who can be trusted, instincts are incorrect, and as a reader- I was kept guessing and predicting wrong outcomes of events at hand. Fantastic story telling, wonderful characters (good and bad), and I can’t wait for book 3!!!
Oh my stars! This book was ah-mazing! I wanted to throw my nook but keep reading it at the same time. The suspense of what was/was gonna happen kept me on the edge of my seat. I also have a new book boyfriend Out of all the sisters Rowan is my favorite. She is tough and stubborn, but underneath it all she loves deeply! I can NOT wait to read the next one!
“Reign of Mist” is the second book of three,in this amazing SciFi series, Book of Sindal. Each book tells its own story, each story builds upon the other and is rich in content, character development and addresses issues we have in life. We learn about Rowan, the oldest of the three Whelan sisters, who always felt that her powers, as a witch were not as extraordinary as, her sisters. The bonds of sisterhood are challenged and shocking secrets are revealed, as the Whelan sisters seeks to fulfill their responsibility to protect the Powerful Book of Sindal.
I loved watching her gain self confidence and realize the strength and importance of her powers. And, of course, she had the help of Logan, who is not only awesome but the electrical connection between them is beautiful.
D.G. Swank and Alessanra Thomas write a passionate, beautiful story with many twists and turns. They choose their words carefully to build a hypnotic story and create a mystic world. The story is fast paced, a steamy read, filled with mystery and romance with desires filled! Thank you for a wonderful read!
Wow! Trust no one! Rowan believes her magic is weak and useless. A simple trick most witches and mages can do. Now the Dark sect wasn’t her to use her magic in ways she never imagined. Can Rowan believe she has the power inside her? If she finds this magic can use it to save herself and her sisters? So many twist and turns it’s make you wonder who’s good or evil? Whose trying to get power from the book? How does a non magical hottie fit in? I hope you open the book and find out! I can’t wait for book 3 now!
This book was amazing! I loved Rowan. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her… I kind of thought she would be my least favorite of the sisters. I was pleasantly surprised to find out I loved her! It was fascinating to see her grow in her confidence and her powers. The first book was good, but this book was fantastic!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This is an interesting and captivating second book in this series. I loved Rowan the oldest sister. She’s smart, strong, and sassy. She has the help of a handsome young human cop- Logan. The story is suspenseful, action packed, page turner, with magical twists and turns I was surprised to see. The characters make you feel invested in their journey and I can’t wait for more of the last sister Celeste and her fate ahead !
What just happened? This book is full of twists and turns from the very big inning. You think you know what’s going on but then nope. There are still characters I don’t trust. And this book gave me more reasons not to trust them.
Wow, book 2 was so much more than I could have hoped for.
Kidnapping, drama oh so much drama. a load of magic, some surprises on top of surprises, a dash of torture and believe it or not there was time for a bit of romance…lol
Reign of Mist was a totally enthralling and captivating adventure centered around Rowan the eldest sister who has always felt like the least powerful, worthless sister but I think Rowan is about to find out she is more powerful than she could have imagined, when everything is falling apart Rowan is the one who will be the backbone and strength of her family and she will what she has to save her sisters and her new man.
I LOVE Logan he is a keeper and a half I’m still on the fence about Brandon and I honestly want to see what Rowan does to him when they come face to face again…lol Rowan has some suppressed anger issues to work out with him…lol
I have to say I loved all the surprising twists and turns and I am super excited for book 3.
This is the second book of an amazing series following three sisters who are tasked with protecting the world from an evil book. The first book followed the middle sister (for once they are not neglected), the second books follows the oldest sister, who is considered to be the least powerful. This book has some interesting twists and insight to Rowena’s power. The sister’s make a brief but powerful cameo in this book. This book left me on such a cliff hanger, I can’t wait for the third book. I hope there are more than just three books.
Wow what just happened? This book has left me speechless…. Rowan is such an amazing person and someone we can all relate to. And the writing in this book is so amazing that you will not be able to put it down. There’s so many twists, turns and things happening that you will find yourself thinking about this even after you have finished it.
You seriously need to read this book. I need more
So captivating!! This book grabbed my attention from chapter 1. I had a hard time putting it down! I love how the heroine, Rowan, is so strong and sassy, yet we see her vulnerable side and insecurities. Rowan thinks she weak yet she has hidden talents and she strength she never knew was there. I adore her love interest in this book. He’s there for her through the most difficult time in her life and sees the good in her. Look forward to some suspense, plot twists, and romance. This book is amazing! If you haven’t read book 1, Descended from Shadows, read that one before diving into this one.
Hells bells!!
This book is such a thriller. Book 2 of this series is such a captivating book!! I absolutely love Rowan’s POV. I was literally on the edge of my seat while reading this series. It really is a all-consuming, and spellbinding series. So many questions were answered in this book. I was literally SWOONING over my new book boyfriend y’all. You gotta meet this hot guy!!
Can’t get enough! What do I think of this book?? The better question is where do I even begin. Reign of Mist leaves you needing more. It leaves you trying desperately to turn a page that isn’t there. This is Rowan’s story, her journey and her struggle with what she has always known, she’s just average…. or is she??? There are twists and some
Interesting realizations. I can’t wait for the third book!!!
I have been pulled deeper into the Whelan sister’s world, and I love it!
There is so much that happens in this book / series and it’s extremely hard to tell you why you need to read it without giving spoilers. Here’s what you need to know:- each book is about one of the sisters, telling part of an overall journey in their own POV. The time frame is one after the other, none is overlapping and nothing is repeated. The series is based on witches and magic, but it’s more of a mystery discovery all things relating to the Book of Sindal. Each sister has a different specialty magic power that they use to try and keep the Book safe from evil hands. The trick is, who is on their side, and who is glamouring themselves trying to side with the sisters, and will they see through it all before it’s too late?!! Another aspect of these books is each sister encounters a love that is unlike anything they have experienced before.
The biggest thing you need to know is, if you have not read anything by DG Swank before, you’re missing out. She has a way of creating characters that are full of depth and life in worlds that you want to escape to. She is gifted in being about to write in all genres that you still get the same sense of enlightenment with the characters. This is my first series reading anything by Alessandra Thomas, and I’ll be looking more into her works. Lastly I want to comment on the covers. The three books have the most gorgeous covers and depicts the sisters perfectly. Don’t hold back, grab this series and fall into their lives of magic.
Holy wow! This book was from Rowen’s perspective. I loved Rowan’s sass! She was a sassy badass in the face of evil. I so did not know how this book was going to go. I guessed one thing towards the beginning and ended up being right. But everything else was a total shock to me. I don’t know how to say more about it without spoilers so I’ll just say I freaking loved it!! It was super intense and action packed! And the romance! Logan is my favorite. Love him! He was so protective and sweet. Rowan definitely deserves that. I can’t wait until the next book but I don’t want it to be over!
