Book two of the Book of Sindal series. (Rowan)Rowan might be the firstborn of the Whelan sisters, but her magic is far from first class. Outshone by her younger sisters’ rare and powerful gifts hasn’t been easy, but she has always taken her position as leader of their family seriously. Even more seriously when her sisters are endangered and they lose—yet again—the Book of Sindal, a magical tome … magical tome of evil spells and incantations their small coven of three has been tasked to protect.
When the Dark Set, a group of mages determined to take over the magical community, comes for Rowan, she turns to an unexpected and very human source. Local cop Logan Gillespie might not be a mage, but he’s not to be underestimated.
The question is why Rowan? As the weakest witch, she shouldn’t be of interest to the Dark Set. Yet they’re sure she’s the secret to unlocking the power of the book.
Can she convince them they’re wrong? She has to find a way because the lives of her sisters, Logan, and possibly the world depend on it.

I have a confession – a few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of reading PNR (ParaNormal Romance) or UF (Urban Fantasy) books. But then I discovered DGSwank. I decided to give her UF books a try since I had read and loved everything else she has written. So, I now have to admit that I love those genres – a well-written and well-developed book is always an enjoyable read. If you find an author you enjoy, branch out and give books on other genres a try. Believe me, I am so glad I did and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
So, onto my review for Reign of Mist. This is the second book in the “Book of Sindal” series and I absolutely loved it. I love the well-developed characters, the suspenseful plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the way the books seamlessly flow from one to another.
This book focused on Rowan, the oldest of the Whelan sisters. I can certainly relate to Rowan and her feelings of inadequacy – I think there’s a little of that in all of us – which makes Rowan such a believable character. I truly can’t say enough about how good this book is – I liked the first book in the series but I absolutely LOVE this one. If you are looking for an exciting read, I urge you to pick up this series – I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Love this series and loved Rowan’s point of view! This story is full of twists and turns that keep you turning the pages! I had a hard time putting the book down because I wanted answers. I wanted to know Rowan’s piece of the story! I didn’t know who to trust and was completely surprised by one of the characters! . I hope to see more of Rowan in the last book of the series! I can’t wait for more! This is definitely a book that should be on your TBR list along with Descended from Shadows!
Wow! Even better than the first. Action packed with suspense, Magic, surprises.
The Book of Sindal along with the Whelan sisters are in danger by the Dark Set again. This is more intense along with surprising twists. Just Wow!
I would definitely recommend this series, it is enjoyable, it sucks you into the paranormal world, you come out satisfied in the end yet anxious to start the final book. The authors did an amazing job.
So good!!
Reign of Mist was the perfect continuation to the first book. I loved learning about the next Whelan sister, Rowan, and seeing things from her point of view. Her powers are so different from her sister’s and it is so cool seeing all the details the authors put into these sisters’ powers because I think they are so original. I also absolutely loved Logan and his character in this book. And the story line! It is so good and there are so many unexpected twists I definitely did not see coming. I don’t think there’s anything about this book I didn’t like. I cannot wait to read book three and learn more about the last Whelan sister!!
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! When I picked this up, I had a lot going on and couldn’t commit a day to sit down and read so I read it with a lot of stop and go. I felt like I was watching the most action-packed, gripping TV show. At the end of every chapter I could not wait to pick up RoM again and see what was going to happen next. I loved Phoebe’s story in Descended from Shadows but Rowan’s story surpasses that by a mile! I was able to figure out one “surprise” pretty early on but a lot of the story kept me guessing. And, the action builds up like a snowball going down a mountain – it just keeps building! Highly recommended! I can’t wait to read Celeste’s story and see how this all comes together. Come on August 6!!
Man book two went by faster then book one! It blew my mind how fast paced this series has been and I’m sure will continue to be. I normally am not a fan of “instalove”, but that isn’t really what happens in this book. Just know that Rowan and Logan are meant to be together! He is just about the perfect book boyfriend ever. I mean most men would run from a witch, but this man runs right to her.
More secrets await us and I can’t wait to see what happens next after having such a crazy twist pop out in this story.
Such an amazing book. I love the second book of the Book of Sindal series, Reign of Mist.
Rowan is the oldest of the Whelan sisters and this book is her story. This book had it all, it pulled me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down.
If your looking for a great urban fantasy book and/or series, look no further. You’ll love Reign of Mist. I cannot wait for the third book.
This is the second book in this series and this story centres on the oldest witch Rowan. Whilst Ro believes she is the weakest Wheelan sister the dark set believe otherwise. Rowan also finds an unlikely love interest which keeps her thinking about the future and what it might hold. These books are lovely to read and easily can be read as a standalone but preferably in the right order. I look forward to reading all about Celeste who is the most troubled and unpredictable!
Holy seven levels of hell!! This book was SO good! I couldn’t put it down! Just when you think you’ve figured it out, plot twist! Rowan is the oldest Whelan sister but the least magical in her eyes. Overshadowed by her magically stronger sisters, Rowan hides her insecurities in the form of her wickedly, sassy, personality. Don’t even get me started on Logan Gillespie. By the goddess, he may be human but he definitely deserves an honorable mention in the swoon department! I can’t wait for book three, but I’m also sad that it’s almost over. This series has so much potential beyond a trilogy and I really, truly hope that it’s given a chance to soar because I definitely want more!
WOW!! I didn’t see that coming!! Be prepared for twists you definitely never would have thought of. This book continues from the end of the first one, pulling you right back into the story from the get go. You won’t want to stop reading as you’ll be wondering what’s going to happen next. I love Rowan and her sassy attitude; but underneath it all she is such a loving, caring sister and person. Oh! and Logan…..he’s my new book boyfriend. I am amazed at the magical world that the authors have created and will be impatiently waiting for the third and final book of the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
Reign of Mist was as wonderful as I hoped. I really enjoyed Descended From Shadows and Phoebe and was left excited to learn more about Rowan and couldn’t wait to see more of her strong feisty personality. Reign of Mist did not disappointed. I loved getting to know more about Rowan and the sisters past. There were definitely some unexpected twists, juicy details, and steamy love! I believe I like Logan more than Brandon (did not think that was possible). Reign of Mist left me extremely excited for Crown of Blood and learning more about Celeste.
Where to even begin? I loved this book much more than I could imagine! I’m still under the spell of Reign of Mist (Book of Sindal#2) It captivated me from the very first page until the very last one and yet it don’t let me go. Somehow I didn’t see this coming because I was still all and good in the previous – Phoebe’s story though I was head over heels excited for Rowan’s story! I don’t know how Denise Grover Swank does it but this book hit home – like lightning, shockingly painful. It was me who felt everything Rowan felt, her struggling being overlooked, rejected, underestimated, everything Rowan went through. I adored Rowan how strong she really was. Such an amazing character, sassy as hell. Magical powers and love against powers and evil! Oh yessss! Logan is perfect match for her!
If you want to know more about them and this story, you should pick this book (I mean this series), you are going to fall in love!
Holy hells! Don’t sleep on this series y’all. It’s seriously amazing! In Reign of Mist we learn about the oldest Whelan sister, Rowan, who has been outshone by both of her sisters paranormal abilities her entire life. But this doesn’t stop her from protecting her family and fighting for their safety at all costs. Will Rowan’s powers be the key to unlocking the Book of Sindal? I love these characters, and am so intrigued learning about their magic and mystical powers in these wonderful books. I highly recommended diving into this series!
Reign of Mist is everything I love about Urban Fantasy! A fiesty troubled heroine, dark and complex storyline and a swoon-worthy hero! This novel took this series to the next level and had a lot of WTF moments peppered throughout the story.
I had a feeling I would love Rowen’s story and I’m happy to say I was right! I connected with her right out of the gate and felt like we’re twins. Her struggle with struggles with and her feelings of being rejected, unwanted and worthlessness from her family and magical community hit very close to home from. She built a hard shell around her try to protect but it ended up just building up resentment and bitterness towards her family and her mission. Her journey to acceptance and forgiveness was often brutal and rough but the past needs to be broken and sometimes confronting the past is painful but needed for ultimate healing.
There was a lot of bombshells dropped in this book. Rowen and her sister’s lives will never be the same. It quite clear that the three sisters have been used by those who should have protected them (including their parents). Instead, I trust neither the Verian Council or the Dark set. It’s quite clear that both groups have only ever wanted to control these three sisters for their own selfish purposes and never cared to help them. It should be on explosive finally and I can’t wait to see these three sisters take them all down.
Now let’s get to the love interest! Logan was just perfect for Rowan. As a non-magical, he was someone not caught up in the games and shenanigans against Rowan so he had no agenda other than to love this woman. Rowen has never had someone just love her for who she is and it was what she needed at the most difficult time in her life. my only quibble was there love/romance was way to insta-love. I wished the book had spent a little more time developing their relationship. it didn’t always feel real or plausible to me.
This is a fun and engaging series and a perfect read for laying by the pool are lounging at the beach.

Reign of Mist, book 2 in the Book of Sindal series, is told from the perspective of Rowan, the oldest Whelan sister. I really liked her character in the first novel, so I was excited for her POV! DGS and Alessandra Thomas did not disappoint! Rowan makes for a wonderfully protective big sister, with lots and lots of sass. I’m all about a sassy main character, so I loved her. Logan is a terrific love interest as well. He’s swoony and strong and just yum. I love how the series moves forward in different POVs, but that it’s still one continuous story and not a trilogy where each story can be read on their own. You definitely need to read book 1 to understand book 2. So much action, suspense, magic, and steam are found between these pages that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time dying to know what was coming next. Can’t wait for the conclusion to the series with Celeste’s story!
Great new series!!! Normally I would say this isn’t my favorite genre….but I may have to revise that thinking. This is book 2 of 3 in the series. In this one, we learn more about the oldest sister, Rowan. And of course there is a awesome fellow helping her, Logan. What a great read this is. Reign of Mist has everything; suspense, mystery, romance and action. I found myself devouring it in 2 sittings. There are a couple twists that I didn’t see coming. I found myself swept up in the story and I honestly couldn’t put it down. I especially enjoyed seeing Rowan gain self confidence and grow into her power. You know it is an exceptional book when you find yourself thinking about the characters in between reads and even after you have finished. I can’t wait for book 3 when we learn more about Celeste. Thankfully the 3rd installment isn’t too far off! Another reason to go ahead and give this one and book 1, a read.
Reign of Mist is the second in the captivating new Book of Sindal Series.
Rowan is the oldest of the three Whelan sisters, whose family has been charged with guarding the magical Book of Sindal for generations. Being the oldest has its challenges, but Rowan is not easily intimidated. That’s a good thing because in this installment she is truly put to the test. And can she really trust Officer Logan Gillespie to understand the complexity of her situation?
The bonds of sisterhood are challenged and shocking secrets are unveiled as the Whelan sisters seeks to fulfill their responsibility to protect the Powerful Book of Sindal. DG Swank and Alessandra Thomas masterfully spin an intricate web of magic, action, and suspense that leave the reader eagerly awaiting Book Three and Celestes story!
This is the book I wanted the most. I was more then excited to learn it was the second book. I was amazed in how the whole story unfolded. It went way beyond what I expected. Rowan is my favorite so far. She has to overcome so much more to me then her sisters do or did. Rowan’s personality is the best. She has me grinning or laughing out loud. I think she is the key to keep them together. I am going to confess that I didn’t know if I was going to like another police boyfriend but Logan works for me. This whole book and sisters are really going to blow up in the next book. I don’t know if I am ready for that yet.
Wow, I cannot get over this book. I absolutely loved every minute of it. I found myself thinking about it randomly throughout the day. It was hard to put down from the start of the first page to the very last. I was literally at the edge of my seat several times, yelling at the book. We are taken on a journey with Rowan and learn a lot about the past. So many questions were answered, but like always, you are left with new questions. Logan (Rowan’s love interest) is exactly what she needs and such a great guy! I am looking forward to see where Denise and Alessandra take this series with the next book.
If you are a bit hesitant, because this isn’t your typical genre, I say give this series a try. You just might find you new favorite.
I enjoyed getting in Rowen’s head in this second installment of the Book of Sindal. From the last book, I had a feeling there was more to Rowen than meets the eye. I wasn’t wrong. The plot flows nicely and keeps the reader engaged all through out the book. The new characters were well developed and they lend a new twist to the story line. I look forward the the third and final book in this series.
