Reign of Fire (Deep State Mysteries Book One) was a good read by Casi McLean. Emily Rose joins forces with a team that’s investigating her sister’s murder in order to expose a faction that’s threatening America’s democracy. She never expected that she would see her sister’s ghost or to fall in love. Ashton Frasier is a detective that never thought he would find love. They are hoping to take down a faction that’s threatening the White House. This was a good read by the author.
Extremely well written. This story keeps you enthralled and your mind working overtime. It is suspenseful and intriguing. I would recommend it.
This story asks a lot of questions about our political system. The murder of a politician’s aid. Only they don’t know she has a twin. A harden cop looking for justice for the young woman. It’s about a foreign power deepening it hold on our political system so they can control our policies and implode our democracy. This story is not hard to believe looking at the corruption and policies that are being attempted in our political system. Reign of Fire is a fast-paced political thriller that resonated a little too closely to today’s political climate. Reign of Fire is a smart story, part police “who dunnit,” part conspiracy, and part paranormal. It drew me in from the start. While the story finished the storyline is not. Reign of Fire is a great start to a new series.
I received this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Something different from Casi and I liked
Overall 3 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 3 out of 5 stars
This was something new and different for me from Casi. I like it. I was caught up in the intrigue of it all. The things that could get you killed whether you seen something, heard something, or heck. . . they just didn’t know what you may have or have not. This was a good listen from the beginning with one sister. All the way to the end with the other sister.
Now, as for the audio quality was a bit shaky at first. It had a bit of a echo quality at the beginning. Things straightened up before the end. I did enjoy Kristin James. She gave an extra layer of realism to our characters. I am excited to see the next installment in the Deep State Mysteries.
Okay, so I normally don’t read books like this – sketchy politicians and shadow governments. It had several new ideas about ghosts and or how couples get together. I found it intriguing. The ghost in this book is refreshing. I really like how the character was written. A great detective story of finding the killer.
For 20+ who like reading about conspiracy theories, romance, and ghosts.
I couldn’t put if down – Emily and Ash seached to find out who killed Emilly’s twin sister and who is behind the Association. There is the intrigue of the shadow govenment called the Association trying to take control of all departments the govenment in Washington DC and how the muder is involved. It is full of twists and turns and a touch of supernatural. Well-written so that it pulls you into the story and the action. More books in this series and by this author will be on my reading list.
This story was a thrill ride. We get transported deep into a murder mystery, politics, action and a hint of romance. The story was well written and detailed; I could have just walked into the story and been another character. I liked the development of the relationship and how the plot played out. I was thrilled along with questioning the mystery. I didn’t guess anything so that was nice. There was a hint of supernatural (or at least otherworldly belief). I liked the mixture of the two; I think it was a nice balance in the story. I also liked the characters, they were detailed and real, yet not over the top or out of place, if that make sense.
I think this was a nice read. My only issue what they I had no connection to the characters so I didn’t “feel” for them or their relationship. It was like reading their adventure rather than feeling their connection. Not a major issue, I just prefer to be connected to those I read. I am interested in this series now. 3.75 stars.
This author just keep getting better and better. Emily and Ashton are kinda thrown together and have to work against the clock to solve the mystery ahead of them. I’m not usually a fan of this genre but I am totally glad that I gave this one a chance and you should too
What a book! I could not put this one down and had to read it in one sitting. The espionage and intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the characters and chemistry and The Who concept of Deep State is so scary and you can’t help but believe that it’s a little bit true. You wrote a really great book Ms McLean! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
In this epic tale, Alyssa Rose ends up murdered after she stumbles upon a letter involving a conspiracy to overthrow our Government. With the devastating news of her sister’s murder, her twin Emily Rose and brother Wyatt head to Washington to help find her killer. Once in Washington DC,Emily meets up with Detective Ashton Frasier and it was love at first sight with a little help from Emily’s deceased sister. Will Alyssa’s murder be solved? Will Ash and Emily become a romantic couple? Will Emily be able to continue with her sixth sense, or will she lose the connection she has had with Alyssa? You must read the novel to find out.
Ms. McClean writes a compelling and engaging tale. Her characters are well drawn and it’s crystal clear as to the roles they play. Her dialogue is witty, in-depth, romantic, and suspenseful. Furthermore, she engages in the spiritual world with love, protection, and strength.
Politics, suspense, action and so much more. This story was a brilliant fast-paced read with some great twists and turns I didn’t see coming.
Reign of Fire was a gripping, thrilling, ‘who-dun-it’ read. It starts off innocently, and from there, the plot thickens, as these characters begin digging for answers, only to reveal a conspiracy that runs deeper than they imagined. You’ll have to read to find out what they discover.
this book will keep you guessing until the end! she is trying to find out who killed her sister. so she asks help from a hot cop. only things are getting out of control and could get them both killed!
Interesting story about murder and conspiracy with romance and a bit of paranormal thrown into the mix. Well written with an intriging plot and characters make this a story one you don’t want to miss reading.
Reign of Fire is an engrossing novel that starts mysteriously as Alyssa is covertly mailing a letter. In a random act Alyssa, an intern for a congressman, discovers proof of a shadow government. She returns as a spirit to help her twin sister Emily piece together the puzzle of her murder, along with her brother Wyatt and detective Ash Frazier. This well crafted political thriller has it all-romance, intrigue, political conspiracy, murder and a spirit. An entertaining, unique, page turner that I highly recommend to those who love mysteries/thrillers.
This book is a terrific blend of “who dunnit”, romance and a touch of paranormal thrown in to spice things up. I don’t typically read this particular genre, but will add this, and it’s author, to my list of go to reads. Plot and character development are spot on and with enough resolution at the end to keep you happy, but enough of a cliffhanger to want you to keep going to the next book, Casi McLean demonstrates her writing chops! Great book!
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.
This is the first book in the Deep State Myseries series. Alyssa is an intern for the government who is on her way to mail some letters. Before she gets the envelops in the mail, coffee is accidentally spilled on them. Alyssa decides to open the mail and swap the envelopes for fresh ones. But, now she’s seen what she wasn’t supposed to see and for that she is murdered. Alyssa’s twin sister Emily agrees to work with the handsome detective to uncover who is involved with Alyssa’s murder by pretending to be Alyssa. Now, they are after Emily but she has no idea who they are or why they want to kill her.
This is a very good suspenseful thriller. I enjoyed the paranormal twin aspect to this story. So there’s a good mystery and a ghost – what’s not to love? My only problem, and this might not bother other readers, but Emily and the detective are immediately carnally attracted to one another – and I kept thinking – really, didn’t your sister just die? I wish the story had just focused on Alyssa’s murder/investigation and perhaps waited for Emily and the detective’s romance for a later book in the series.
I listened to this book – the narrator did a very nice job.
Conspiracy, murder and mayhem. I enjoyed the concept with government conspiracies and it was thrilling trying to uncover the mystery. It was a little hard for me to connect with the characters and believe their relationship which took away a bit from the story for me.
