This is it. This is THE book of 2019! I didn’t think anything would ever top Slammed as being my favorite CoHo book but this one did it. It surpassed my expectations and is at the very top of my favorite books of all time.
Heartache
Grief
Betrayal
It was all there in this story. These characters were unforgettable. The story line was heart shattering. Just when I thought no more surprises would be thrown my way, I was wrong. The secrets, the lies just kept coming.
It’s a story I wish I could read over and over again and experience it for the first time. It’s definitely one I’ll never forget.
I can’t stop smiling. This story brought me so much happiness in the few days I’ve savoured reading it.
I loved everything in this book. The seriousness and the circumstances of the plot, the firsts loves, the forgiveness in the heart of the human being and the treasure of family.
This book is everything!
Oranges are all over my mind right now. Thank you Colleen! I never gave much thought about orange before… but now I know that every time I see the color orange it will remind me of this book in the most happy way!
Colleen Hoover slays me every time. I adored this book! I adore every Colleen Hoover book! Regretting You is full of emotion. Some parts made me ugly cry, while others had me laughing out loud. Hoover knows how to move the reader, and she is so very good at it. You won’t go wrong with this one!
I went into this book only knowing it was something about a mother daughter relationship. I didn’t read any reviews or blurbs.
Morgan and Chris are pregnant at young age, skip ahead 17 years later. Clara is their daughter on the verge of 17 and her parents are very protective of her. Clara is very close to her Aunt Jenny and with her dad. After tragedy strikes neither Morgan or Clara know how to cope and this book is their journey away from each other and finding their way in the new world they are thrust into.
Beautiful, heartfelt journey that is written so well. Loved it
I finished this book about week and a half ago, I have been trying to come up with the words to make this a great review because that’s what this book deserves. This book completely broke my heart and then put it all back together again. I went into reading this without know anything about the book. I really liked how it had two points of view; one of a 17 year old and the other of a 34 year old. Made it interesting to get both sides of what was going on throughout the book. I was completely shocked and thrown for a huge loop while reading Regretting You. I think I am still in the middle of a book hangover from this one. One thing I can say is you will NOT Regret reading Regretting You.
Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “Regretting You” by Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover, Author of “Regretting You” has written an amazing, emotional, memorable, captivating, and intense novel. The Genres for this book are Family Drama, Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Romance. The timeline for this novel is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters and events in the story. The author describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated. There are betrayals and secrets.
Morgan Grant is called ‘predictable’ by her 16 almost 17-year-old daughter Clara. Morgan was around that age when she got pregnant with Clara. She married Chris, her sweetheart. It bothers Morgan to be called predictable when she put many of her dreams on hold. Many times, Clara will consult her mother’s sister with problems.
A terrible tragedy occurs which causes terrible pain for Morgan and Clara. There are betrayals and secrets. Morgan would like to protect Clara any way she can. The author discusses first love, mother and daughter relationships, the importance of family, second chances, forgiveness, communication, self-growth, love, and hope. Also discussed is how the choices we make can be so important.
I love Colleen Hoover’s writing style, and I appreciate the way she describes the events and vividly writes about her characters. I would highly recommend this book for those readers who enjoy fiction and a memorable novel.
Outstanding. Just freaking outstanding.
What is it about this woman and her words? A unicorn author in so many ways, Colleen leaves me sweating, crying and laughing. She leaves me feeling complete.
Regretting You is beautiful. The strength Morgan will need to navigate her new normal is above and beyond scary. Will Clara find peace? Will Morgan experience those tingly feelings ever again? Colleen set the scenery. Reeled me and gave me the most ‘epic’ story.
This is a standalone that will give you all the feels. A must read.
If Morgan Grant could turn back time, she would probably do it to correct some of the mistakes that happened in her past – like getting pregnant, marrying way too early and placing her career on hold to raise her daughter and take care of the family.
Her daughter Clara is now sixteen and her relationship with Morgan is fractured from her over protection. Clara’s confidants have been her father Chris and her aunt (Morgan’s sister). As the story progressed, you realize that what happens are that the betrayals, and the secrets that protect the people you love, may just hurt them more than simply telling them the truth.
How far do you protect your family in exchange for your own downfall?
How far would you sacrifice to your own demise and unhappiness?
This was my first Colleen Hoover novel, and I now understand why she has such a huge following of loyal readers. This book was so well told, and powerful that I read this in less than four hours. There simply is no putting this book down. You had to know what will happen next! Each of the characters played an important role in the story and you will be completely immersed in their role in the story.
It had been a long time since I cried over a book, and this one made me ugly cry and wrecked me to the core. I felt every emotion the characters were feeling from the painful regret and disappointment, to the hurt and betrayal for those left behind. I loved the development of the story and how it is about the sacrifices we go through for people that we love and care for, and that people are not always what they seem. Some people will disappoint you but many people will also surprise you and in the end.
I highly recommend this amazing book for an amazing family drama and a story of first loves, gut wrenching betrayal, devastating loss and disappointments, and in the midst of all this finding truth and love.
Regretting You – Hoover in best form.
Regretting You by Colleen Hoover is a full length, stand lone romance novel with a twist.
The story spans years and actually tells two stories, interwoven. Morgan is happily married to her high school sweetheart with a 17 year old daughter when her life puts upside down. Not only has she to bear death, karma has a way to say ha it’s a heavy load to bear. Sorry no sorry no spoilers here.
On the other hand there’s Clara, her beloved daughter who’s grieving too. She’s acting out and dealing with typical teenager stuff at the same time. Difficult – to say it lightly.
Favorit Quote: ” We are all just one phone call away from our knees. ”
The book is an unputdownable pageturner. I was hanging on the edge of my seat and couldn’t put it down. After It Ends With Us and Too Late, Regretting You is another outstanding and fantastic read by this author.
But, and yes, there’s a but, I’d knew for the life of me what was written in the letters. No offense Mrs. Hoover.
I recommend Regretting You. 5 Stars , hands down.
This was the first book I have ever read by Colleen. ( I know huge shocker right ) It was everything! How have I lived life not reading her stories?
Normally I hate any kind of story that has dual point of views with a parent(s) and their kid(s) but this story just had so much to offer from both POV’s. I was invested in Morgan & Elijah’s story and as equally invested in Miller & Clara’s. I was not disappointed at all with the ending. If anything I want more, I fell so in love with all of these characters.
What an incredible journey! Not the usual type of book I prefer to read, but I’ll give anything by Colleen Hoover a shot! The blurb for this book really drew my attention. A story about a mother and her teenage daughter struggling to navigate life after a tragic loss pulled on my heart strings.
This book had so much emotion and drama. I honestly had no idea where the story was going to go from one page to the next. Little bits of uncertainty kept popping up and navigating you away from whatever conclusions you thought you’d drawn. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse… it did! I truly appreciated the authenticity of this story. The realistic emotions, reactions, decisions that the characters faced and made were completely believable.
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve absolutely HATED characters like I did in this book. My heart absolutely broke for Morgan, Clara and Jonah. It cracked little by little, fully broke apart onto the floor and then was crushed with a sledge hammer as the story continued to progress. The depth of betrayal, heartbreak, vulnerability and raw emotion that the author stitched into this book was incredible. As a reader, I felt like I was right there in the thick of it with these characters. I felt their despair and pain down to my core. I might have even gotten a Nebraska headache too!
The love and comfort that both Morgan and Clara found was incredible. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect outcome for either of them with their choice of who’s warm embrace they sought refuge in. Miller was one of the most well written, young adult male characters I’ve ever read. Jonah was such a quiet and reserved, yet stable foundation for Morgan.
The way Colleen wrapped up the book was everything I could have hoped for! Every single thing I was worried about, angry about, unsure of, was addressed and taken care of exactly how I wanted it to be. As a reader, that left me so fulfilled at the end of the read. My heart and mind couldn’t take any more curve-balls or loose ends!
Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
This was such a good read, a very nice mix of women’s fiction and romance. The first chapter had me hooked and invested in the characters from the get go.
I really enjoyed how this story was written following two characters, a mother and daughter, while centering around how one moment can change everything. I am not a mother yet but I am a daughter and I still found myself relating to both Morgan and Clara.
This story is all about family secrets, love, teenage rebellion, and overcoming the bumps in the road that life puts in your way. The big twist shocked me when it was revealed. I did find quite a bit of the rest of the plot to be a bit predictable. I still really enjoyed the emotional roller coaster I was put on while reading this story.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
6 Stars
Regretting You has been one of my most anticipated books of the year and is now one of my favorites.
Colleen Hoover has done something completely different with this book, something so unexpected and beautifully written. I was addicted to this book from the very beginning and never wanted it to end.
“Sometimes you have to walk away from the fight in order to win it”
This book is told in dual point of views, however instead of the typical hero & heroine we have a mother and daughter. I loved the parallels in their chapters, the unexpected journey they found themselves on and how they navigated their new paths. The love in the book is so incredible and shown in many different ways and forms.
There aren’t enough words to do this book justice, and I don’t want to spoil anything by going into too much detail. What I will say is I absolutely loved this book, I highly recommend it to everyone, and I hope you love it as much as I did!
Regretting You was really good. I was worried at the beginning because there was quite a bit of angst… and especially teen-angst which is my LEAST favorite! But it had wonderful storytelling and a good, original story line that kept things interesting.
“Sometimes when he says things to me, his words feel like they reach me through my chest rather than through my ears.”
The story is a blend of women’s fiction, romance and YA. This book is packed with secrets, lies, regrets and bad decisions, but it is a really good decision to one click this one! I listened to about half of the book on audio and really enjoyed the narration.
-4.5 Stars!-
This book. As always Colleen Hoover takes us on an emotional roller coaster. You do not know which way this story will take you. It will trigger so many emotions. I love how Ms. Hoover has a way of grasping you and not letting you go. This is by far my favorite of hers. This is ABSOLUTELY a must read!!
Morgan had the perfect family. A husband that she had loved since high school. A beautiful daughter and an amazing sister who was also her best friend. When a terrible car accident take the lives of the husband and sister, Morgan’s Life changes forever. So many questions arise from the accident. Why were they together in the Car? Why had Jenny lied about starting work that day. What Morgan didn’t realize is that the answers to these question were going to crush her and all others involved. Grief and secrets put a wedge between Morgan and her daughter Clara. Clara looks for comfort in a boy from school to help with the grief. Their connection ends up become much more that they ever thought it would. When secrets are revealed to Clara her heart breaks all over again. After spending the past few months rebelling against her mom, Clara finally realizes that the secrets that her mom had known were so heart breaking that she is not sure how she kept going.
Once again Ms Hoover brings us a supercharged emotional read that drawing you into the world of her characters. Feeling their pain and sorrow, their love and loss.

Morgan is a mother trying to protect her daughter from truths that she thinks will hurt her. She is right, these truths will hurt her but not knowing is hurting just as much. Clara has a truth that she is not sharing and it is hurting her also. The mother/daughter relationship between these two was perfectly portrayed. They are close, they love each other, and they are lashing out on each other because of all of that. Clara pushes the boundaries, Morgan gives her punishments, it just goes around and around.
I love this storyline. There is angst, there is lost, but mostly there is love. The multiple relationships in this book are all unique and all real. The teenage relationship is interesting and very real to life. They find each other, steal kisses, sneak around, and get caught. As a mom, you have to choose your battles and Morgan does a great job of doing just that. Her own relationship is careful and thought out. She considers all who will be affected by her choices in all she does and is an amazingly unselfish mother and friend.
Colleen has blown me away yet again with this novel! Her ability to mix her genres and pack so much into a standalone always amazes me which is why she is a one-click go to Author for me. Regretting you as with any Colleen Hoover book is best going in blind, then you can read and really feel what the characters are going through.
The novel centres around Morgan, who we see at 17, but the majority of the book she tells her story as a 35 year old woman faced with one of life’s biggest challenges. We follow her journey of navigating this event alongside her daughter Clara who is 17 and trying to figure out what life is all about when her world is thrown upside down.
Colleen’s writing as ever is passionate, has clarity and speaks volumes whilst saying so little. She just has this skill of sucking you in and really making you feel what her characters are going through every step of the way. I am in awe of the twists and turns the story took and how the smallest of things that you may or may not notice as you read culminate to be some of the most significant elements of the story and this to me is pure talent at her craft as an Author.
Colleen’s stories always dig down to the heart of the human race, its real, it’s raw and it’s relatable. Her characters could be your sister, your best friend, your neighbour and I love that the connection to them is front and centre in Regretting You
Regretting You by Colleen Hoover begins the way most books do by CoHo, with a captivating start!
The book is narrated by two main characters, a mother and her daughter. This is quite the interesting and intriguing concept, which I’ve also come to expect from a Colleen Hoover book; unique story lines. How can you give a reader both a NA and YA novel and keep them engaged in the story? Not be too YA for your NA lovers and not too risque for your YA readers? The answer is simple, you let Colleen Hoover tell the story.
Hoover’s ability to convey emotions, and REAL life, is unmatched. She is masterful in blindsiding her readers with a plot twist. Her words MEAN something and carry a weight that will consume you as a reader. CoHo’s words impact you to the point of feeling them in your bones. That feeling is what brings me back every time. Again, unparalleled.
I enjoyed having the perspective of both mother, Morgan, and daughter, Clara. Clara’s animosity towards her mother following the wake of the accident is a palpable force that blooms off the pages. The mother/daughter dynamic is an interesting one. Witnessing the journey they’ve taken towards discovering who they are and the acknowledgement of acceptance is poignant. Overall, this is a story of love and forgiveness and the powerful affects it has on not just those around you, but yourself.
There is one area that I wish Hoover had explored and/or provided the reader insight towards but I understand her reasoning not to delve into it; it’s mainly my curiosity getting the better of me LOL.
This story has so many nuances and complexities that it’s hard to write a review without fear of posting spoilers. Please know this story is so much more than my review holds. At it’s core it’s about family and we all know how convoluted families can be.
