Dax Pelletier is ready for a new life, far away from the one he left behind in Savannah following the South’s devastating defeat in the Civil War. The ex-Confederate general wants nothing more to do with commanding men and confronting the tough truths of leadership.
Rachel Davenport possesses skills unlike those of her Boston socialite peers—skills honed as a nurse in field hospitals during … hospitals during the Civil War. Eschewing her northeastern suitors and changed by the carnage she’s seen, Rachel decides to accept her uncle’s invitation to assist him at his clinic in the dangerous and wild frontier of Montana.
Now a Texas Ranger, a promise to a friend takes Dax and his brother, Luke, to the untamed territory of Montana. He’ll fulfill his oath and return to Austin, at least that’s what he believes.
The small town of Splendor is what Rachel needs after life in a large city. In a few short months, she’s grown to love the people as well as the majestic beauty of the untamed frontier. She’s settled into a life unlike any she has ever thought possible.
Thinking his battle days are over, he now faces dangers of a different kind—one by those from his past who seek vengeance, and another from Rachel, the woman who’s captured his heart.
“A heartwarming, passionate story of loss, forgiveness, and redemption set in the untamed frontier during the tumultuous years following the Civil War. Ms. Davies’ engaging and complex characters draw you in from the start, creating an exciting introduction to this new historical western romance series.”

Wonderful Western Romance
This clean romance takes place in post Civil War Montana. Most of the main characters are dealing with the emotional aftermath of the war. The plot is tight with great execution. All of the characters are deep and believable. This is the first book of a long series and well worth the time to read it. I bought this book and this is my honest review.
Because Shirleen Davies is one of my favorite Historical Western Romance authors, I couldn’t wait to get this book and start a new series. I wasn’t disappointed. After the Civil War, there were so many displaced citizens in both the North and South, that many people had to start over, find new careers and seek adventure out west. Rachel was a nurse and saw death and destruction in the Northern hospitals. She feels the calling to follow her Uncle Charles to Montana where he is a Doctor. She wants to help him and become his nurse. Then there is Dax Pelletier and his brother, Luke, from the South. They were different as they had money after the War but sought adventure. The Pelletier family owned a shipping yard as well as a plantation. However, the Texas Rangers is where they could use their war training. The story leads the focal point to Montana where the Pelletier’s have inherited a ranch from one of their Texas Ranger buddies. The book has many twists and turns as did the Country after the Civil War. This author did a great job leading us along the trail of history. I loved it.
“Author Shirleen Davies’, Redemption’s Edge, entertained and kept me wanting to know if Dax and Rachel could ever be together. Davies weaves characters that come alive on the page and keep you reading all the way to the end!”
This is a great book about loss, forgiveness and love… this book carries you on a journey thru to beautiful Splendor Montana… where one can find redemption and love!!
Took me a bit to get into it. Too many characters povs. And a lot of them in the same chapter. A little bit frustrating. There are a lot of sub plots not finished. Plus it added one more at the end. However the couple in this book got their happy ending.
I will probably order another book sometime as long as the characters are in the series and it is kept interesting. However, it was almost like same ole romance novels, just different names. I was mostly interested reading something from the Montana area since I visited Yellowstone/Wyoming/ South Dakota.
Always move to read something with good clean language
This is a good story. I found myself sympathetic to the characters, and even though you know pretty much how it is going to end I wanted to keep reading and finish. One of the things I liked is that the author did not try to put too many 21st century norms on 19th century characters. It is very possible that I will continue with the series.
I ready enjoyed this book, a good read.
Enjoyed this book very much!
It was a terrific mystery, and held my attention to the end. I will definitely read more more of her work.
Characters had real problems. Setting was compelling, made you feel homey.
A good action packed CLEAN romance.
Good story. I enjoy historical fiction, and the story was very interesting. Sympathetic characters.
Believable story line, and characters.
looking forward to reading more books by Shirleen Davies
Great story. Couldn’t put it down
A great read!
Have read Redemption series and thoroughly enjoyed each of them.
Troubled after serving in the Civil War, three people leave their old lives in search of a a more useful life; perhaps a chance of peaceful lives.
A nice paced flow of action and drama makes this an interesting and delightful read. The character development and dialog add to the enjoyable read; Dax was irritating in taking so long to realize where his true happiness truly lay.
Enjoyed the read.
