“This real-life tale, as dramatic as any movie, of Stacey Lannert and her struggle to survive violent sexual assault and the devastating aftermath raises intense issues of crime, culpability and the nature of violence and families. It’s a devastating and important subject, beautifully told.”–Naomi WolfOn July 4, 1990, eighteen-year-old Stacey Lannert shot and killed her father, who had been … father, who had been sexually abusing her since she was eight. Missouri state law, a disbelieving prosecutor, and Stacey’s own fragile psyche conspired against her: She was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.
Redemption is Stacey’s candid memoir of her harrowing childhood and the pain and protective love of her sister that led her to that horrifying night. It is also an extraordinary portrait of what happened after she found herself in prison and how she grew determined to live positively, even triumphantly, despite her circumstances. Ultimately, and most profoundly, she learned the healing power of forgiveness.
After spending as many years in prison as she had out of it, on January 10, 2009, outgoing Missouri governor Matt Blunt commuted Stacey’s life sentence. Six days later she walked out of the gates a free woman. Redemption is the story of how Stacey learned to be free while living behind bars. It is a coming-of-age story set in a parallel universe of a maximum-security prison. And, it is a story of sisterhood, courage, and justice finally served.

I felt so sorry for this girl, she was judged unfairly, for what her father had put her though.
A horrific look into the life a child endures as a victim of sexual abuse.
It was an amazing story of turning a tragic childhood into courage.
This was a page turner for me. I couldn’t wait to find out how it all came together. The material is very realistic for today’s world. It’s a quick read.
A informative but very tragic true life accout of a womans life. Makes you undrstand the issues in our justive system.
Read it in a day.
Great book, sad story but the author is a fighter!
Not very well written but a compelling story of recovery from tragedy.
Pretty graphic for my taste.
I grew up in St. Louis and found the location and other information to be on point. I wish the author the very best.
A true account of one girl’s experience living with her sexual abuser. This man was her father. Ultimately she killed him and spent 18 years in prison. A terrifying look at sexual child abuse and neglect by both parents.
These true stories need to be told. It’s sad that children grow up with out a stable, loving home. A victim of sex abuse suffers in many ways.
A very sad childhood with an abusive father. She killed him with a gun when eighteen years old and was in prison for 17 years until her sentence was commuted. She is making the best of a bad life. She is trying to help others now. A hard life.
Outrageous that she had to spend time in jail for killing her perverted father who sexually abused her and her sister for years. She should have killed him way sooner than she did.
The beginning was heartbreaking and became more so when no one bothered to step in and take care of this young girl. However, her story becomes less believable while she is enjoying her life in prison.
Redemption gave me a look into a place I didn’t truly know anything about. We all tend to think that the things that go on in our own houses when we are young are “normal” behavior in everyone’s house.
Redemption showed me the horrors that some children face every single day of their young lives.
How the author was ever sentenced to life in …
Important first hand account of abuse
Her story needs to be shared. I loved her honesty.
Thought provoking. A good read
Super book
