Welcome to the new world. Things have changed just a bit. Big Brother’s not only watching you, he now has direct access to everything you see–thanks to the mandatory implant you get at birth. And Friday Jones has seen something she wishes she hadn’t. Something the authorities badly want. With everyone out to kill her or steal her secrets, Friday turns to an outlaw and mercenary for help. One … help. One who has secrets of his own. Striker’s special abilities have kept him in the shadows for a reason, which means stepping into the spotlight aimed at Friday could get them both killed. But Friday Jones calls to the wildness in Striker, making her a hard woman to resist–and the only woman who could ultimately save him.
Each book in the Red Zone series is STANDALONE:

A sci fi book (not read one in a while)
This reads a little like Johnny mnemonic and total recall.
In the future your brain let’s you download and store EVERYTHING you see and hear, and Friday overheard something that she really shouldn’t have!!! Taking a poison to stop the “downloading the hardware” in her brain, she now needs to cross “The Red Zone” to get the antidote, otherwise she’s dead in four days….. and the best man for the job is Striker.
He’s a mercenary/smuggler, and a good one, but his team have secrets and abilities that he doesn’t want found out. And helping Friday will bring both Striker and his team under scrutiny, but how can he not? The secrets that she holds in her brain are too important to ignore. And as the story unfolds, Friday becomes important to his team as well as Striker.
So what’s Friday seen? Who wants it and Friday erased?
What is the secret Striker is so hard to hide from everyone?
Will they cross the Red Zone in time?
A well thought out story, and nicely written, the characters were really well thought out. The camaraderie between Striker and his team, the chemistry between Friday and Striker, very descriptive and narrated well.
I did have a few small issues …. I felt more background was needed with Striker and his team, and maybe a little more on why the Red Zone is called The Red Zone!!!
Red Zone by Janet Elizabeth Henderson
Red Zone Book #1
What a fun book this one was! I was hooked from the opening scene and could not put this story down!
What I liked:
* Friday Jones: strong, wise, talkative, scientist that I found thoroughly enchanting. Heart of gold willing to do what it took to be free but willing to give up her freedom for the right cause.
* Striker: I was taken with him from t he first scene…my, oh my…OH MY! I really liked this guy!
* The snake: You must read the story to know why BUT he is a charmer
* The men with Striker…hope they each get a story of their own
* The world this takes place in – built to perfection
* The dialogue
* Paranormal and sci-fi aspects
* Really all of it except
What I did not like:
* The bad guys…there were plenty of them to dislike
* Having to say goodbye to the characters and story…really wanted to keep reading
Did I enjoy this book? Yes!
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!
Would I recommend it to others? Wrote to tell my sister immediately
5 Stars
What a perfect blend of post-apocalyptic world building, comedy, great intelligence, paranormal elements, sexy romance, and edgy suspense! Striker and Friday had me from page one. Their interactions, misunderstandings, banter, attraction-you name it, they have it. And the snake…I’m dying over Sam the snake! Red Zone was like a little bit of Hunger Games/Total Recall/The Running Man…(yes, I’m a child of the ‘80’s)…pure imagination in the best way possible! I can’t wait to read the next book!
I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book since it was a bit different for this author so I was super excited to see Mrs. Henderson wrote another amazing book. In fact I don’t think she can write a bad book. This book kept me engrossed from start to finish, it was unpredictable, romantic, heart wrenching and so very well written. I very much look forward to reading more of this series.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book !
From birth, you receive an implant that records everything you see.
Friday was just minding her own business, when she witness a secret meeting.
Now she is on the run.
What is she to do?
Enter Striker!
Is he the hero or not the hero ?
You will have to read the book to find out.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
This was one of those books that makes you feel everything. I laughed out loud, gasped in shock, felt my heart pick up speed as the characters ran, and cried when things turned sad. From the first chapter, I was plugged into what the characters were feeling. Even though their world is very different from ours, I felt like I was right there with them. I would have read this in one day, but a migraine hit me. I kept trying to see if I could read again because I was dying to know what would happen. There was plenty of action, but I didn’t think it was gross or overdone in any way. The romance was quite lovely and blended well with the rest of the plot. In typical Henderson fashion, a lot of the humor is between the H and h. They are her best couple yet, and that is really saying something!
This is about the highest praise I can give a book: I almost always pick up on what the twists and surprises will be at least a couple of pages before they happen. Twice I could feel a twist coming but was completely shocked by what it was. Twice! That hasn’t happened in years. So I am giving this all the stars! I recommend this book for when you want to be completely swept up in a different world.
A Diamondback with an attitude? Yes, please!
Once again, Janet Elizabeth Henderson has proven why she’s one of my few auto-buy authors, pretty much no matter what genre she wants to write in.
I love her romantic supsense books as well as her rom-coms – and putting all of that goodness into a dystopian sci-fi setting works wonderfully.
Friday and Striker are awesome protagonists und had me rooting for them from page one – and let’s not forget that damn snake! <3
The story delivers fast-paced action, off-the-charts chemistry between Friday and Striker, a wise- and badass team, all the feels - and it feels pretty much like a "gateway drug" for this whole new series. Can't wait for more Red Zone books!
My First Sci-Fi Romance!
Red Zone builds the world of the Territories, ruled by big tech companies, the coalition nations who lost the war and therefore are struggling, and the Red Zone, the wasteland left behind from a bomb that is shrouded in red mist. Striker is part of smuggling ring that can get through the Red Zone but no one knows how or why. Friday is drone in one of the big tech companies but now knows too much and is on the run.
I’ve read paranormal romances and I’ve read a coupe of fantasy romances but have always steered away from sci-fi as I’ve never been a fan of that genre in any medium, but Red Zone was the perfect blend of post apocalyptic world building, paranormal elements, suspense, and romance to keep in tuned in and turning pages!
I loved the development of Striker and Friday’s connection, Sam is freakin’ boot!, as well as the development of the larger series plot. I can’t wait to find out all the teams’ secrets and see what happens next!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Totally fantastic read. A sci fi hit. Gripping from the first to the last page. The author brings the reader on a wild ride a hundred years into the future and opens our imagination wide. Friday enlists Striker and his crew on a mission to save her life. There is danger and intrigue. There is also romance and love that blossoms between Striker and Friday. The author wields a tale that will keep you glued to the pages. This is definitely the start of a series that will keep readers coming back for more adventures in the red zone.
