* Instant NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY bestseller * * GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD WINNER for BEST DEBUT and BEST ROMANCE of 2019 * * BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR* for VOGUE, NPR, VANITY FAIR, and more! * What happens when America’s First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales? When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, … American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius–his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.
Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instragramable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations and begs the question: Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to be? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through? Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue proves: true love isn’t always diplomatic.
“I took this with me wherever I went and stole every second I had to read! Absorbing, hilarious, tender, sexy–this book had everything I crave. I’m jealous of all the readers out there who still get to experience Red, White & Royal Blue for the first time!” – Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners
“Red, White & Royal Blue is outrageously fun. It is romantic, sexy, witty, and thrilling. I loved every second.” – Taylor Jenkins Reid, New York Times bestselling author of Daisy Jones & The Six

Utterly adorable. My heart is full of love for these two. Unapologetic Alex meets reserved Henry. Their repartee killed me, and their correspondence were full of nuggets that made my historian heart sing.
The background is reminiscent of The West Wing, one of my favourite tv series which is an excellent political drama. The hustle and bustle of gearing up for re-election brought out the best and worst of their “situation,” making each side wary yet determined.
Good secondary characters made this even more memorable. What a debut for Casey McQuiston.
This is a contemporary MM romance set in American politics and the British Royal family. This is the first book from this author that I have read, and I loved it. It is humorous and heartwarming. The characters are well developed and lovable. The pace of the story is great. The story presents some very interesting situations that could happen at any time. I loved this realistic story and had a hard time putting it down.
Red, White & Royal Blue is a delightfully witty, charming, and exquisitely written forbidden enemies to lovers debut novel.
Alex, the First Son of the United States, and Henry, a Prince of England, are forced to fake a friendship after an incident at a royal wedding leaves both sides in damage control mode. But soon that fake friendship starts to feel real and romance blossoms between them.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best written books I have read. The characters were charismatic and lovable, the plot was unique and captivating, and the banter was brilliant.
Thanks to SMP and Netgalley for sending me the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book way past 5 stars. It’s a perfect escape /antidote to today’s cruel climate. While it is funny and light in many ways, it’s also wonderful complex and filled with angst.
Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston a four-star read that will make you blush. I will be honest and admit I had to go back to this one as I started it and gave up, but picked it up after a friend had raved about it, I’m glad I picked it back up as I got more out of it the second time around. This is a book of discovery with witty one liner’s that will make you chuckle, but most of all its about romance and love and enjoying what life give you, despite what you face and what people tell you how you should be.
2.5 stars. I’m in the minority here. There was so much political stuff going on, my mind would shut down. The romance seemed to get lost. I also was a bit confused in the beginning. There were several things I thought alluded to Alex being gay/bi that I thought he was already out. And he seemed way to intelligent to have “homosexual amnesia”. All of a sudden he has recollections that were clearly M/M. There were abrupt scene changes that left me lost for a paragraph and while I thought the concept was a bit unique, I had a really hard time suspending reality. I think I would have had an easier time if Henry were prince of imaginary kingdom.
Red White and Royal Blue is one of my favorite romances this year. It is the kind of RomCom that hits you in the heart with all the feels. I loved the family dynamics that were so real and relatable.
“Stop telling me what to do! You’re not the prince of me!”
There are so many things I loved about this book!
I loved the storytelling,
The Swoony-ness,
The humor and banter,
The call to Liam,
The PowerPoint from Mom,
“He’s unsure of the dress code for inviting your sworn -enemy -turned -fake -best -friend up to your room to have sex with you, especially when that room is in the White House, and especially when that person is a guy, and especially when that guy is the Prince of England.”
This story is SO GOOD! Enemies to lovers, Forbidden love, a little sex, mostly fade to black. Just fun, flirty, ROMANTIC, and oh so swoony!!!!
-5+ Stars!!-
Yes, it’s true:
The story is unique and creative.
The MC’s have terrific chemistry.
The banter is witty and plentiful…
There’s a ton to love about Red, White and Royal Blue and it’s astonishing that this is Casey McQuiston’s first published novel. Eloquent and smart, though I tripped over the present tense a few times, McQuiston leaves no loose ends. So much went on in this story and looking back over 400 pages of laughter, love, and tears… well, wow.
When I first heard about this book I thought it was going to be a hot forbidden read but it turns out it’s more of a fun sexy forbidden read and I loved it.
What else can be more forbidden than to fall in love with a man and when he lives in the other side of the world, oh well, the fact that he is the Prince of the most important Royally of the world and you are the First son of the President of the United State Of America
When Alex and Henry met for the first time at the Olympics, neither of them imagined that right there will start a journey that would lead them to end up together. But not an easy road. First of all, they were like water and oil and this would cause a big scene for 2 important countries. The solution? Make the world believe they are the best bromance.
But the more time it passed, the more they realized they have lots of. Things in common, that would lead to a friendship and then to make big decisions that could ruin both lives. Or make them live as someone they were not.
“”Sería una mentira, porque no sería él.” It would be a lie, because it wouldn’t be him. “”
I loved the sweet story between Henry and Alex because it felt natural, both of them being “isolated” from the world and with just a few people to trust. Little by little they found something deep in the words they wrote to each other and in the calls when they would share their lives and their fear.
“From Jean Cocteau to Jean Marais, 1939:
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for having saved me. I was drowning and you threw yourself into the water without hesitation, without a backward look.”
The writing is funny and so different from what I have read before and enjoyed every moment.
There’s a lot to love in this story about two boys across the pond from each other. It’s an enemies to lovers with a very realistic politic twist. Red, White, & Royal Blue is sweet, full of action and love letters and political drama!
Alex is the first son. He’s very driven but also singularly focused and kind of alone. He does have his sister and her friend, but until he’s forced into fixing the mess with Henry, his world is closed off. Henry seems stuffy on the outside, but on the inside he’s so nerdy and adorable. I could read about these two all day, the banter and lovely words are just perfect.
At times the flow was a little wonky- jumping from one event to a future one without any break in paragraph or way to warn me, the texts were hard to tell apart, plus present tense third person takes a bit of adjusting to get used to. Though these bugged me, it didn’t take away from a unique and swoony love story.
