Just outside of the big city limits of Lexington, Kentucky, the small and mysterious town of Shady Oaks exists. With a eerily welcoming presence, it offers its residents charm, beauty, and secrets. Surrounded by a large forest and rivers, this secluded town provides the perfect scene for supernatural and paranormal events to occur. Only, the humans haven’t’ learned of the secrets their alluring … alluring town holds. Or have they?
Mysterious disappearances are plaguing the small, hidden town of Shady Oaks. The locals toss it up to being becoming tired of small town living but Livienne’s family thinks differently.
Livienne’s father is moving her along with her older sister, Loxley back to his hometown of Shady Oaks. The small town charm draws Livienne in but she’s not easily accepted with rumors of her grandmother circling around the town. Most people avoid Livienne and her family and pass around whispered warning of witchcraft. However, one afternoon could change everything for Livienne when she meets Sylar by chance at the local library but Sylar could complicate things with her family and the secrets that surround them.
Sylar, the skater boy, who has always been a bit of an outcast, is drawn to Livienne from the moment he sees her fiery red hair and emerald green eyes but getting her to open up proves to be difficult while he’s trying to keep his own secrets hidden.
Will Livienne and Sylar be able to keep their secrets while forging an undeniable bond? Or will the rumors and the answer to the mysterious disappearances rip them apart?

I love fairy tale retelling when they are done well and this one is one. This book had me hooked from the beginning and didn’t let go. The excitement I felt well reading had me saying just one more chapter every time I started to put it down.
I have fallen in love with all the shady oaks books and Red is no exception. The way the author has portrayed her characters and being able to read the story and see everything in my imagination is absolutely amazing. You must read this.
This book was AWESOME! It had a few of my favorites, witches, vampires, hunters and so much more.
This book had me reeled in from the first chapter! Some would think in the beginning the story moves a little slow but that’s to give the reader a look into the world that is Shady Oaks. I love getting background information, it helps me form my own conclusions about how the story will unfold.
Unfortunately, my spidey senses were off because I did NOT see all the things come to play in the end or throughout the book for that matter.
I love all things paranormal and this book had it ALL! One of my favorite things about this book is the characters names! OMG!!! Each characters name was beautifully selected and fit well with their personalities. I did go about through about 85% of the book before I figured out his name was NOT Skylar.
Livienne, I loved everything about her from her unique name all the way down to Sylars description of how he saw her. Ordinary she was not in more ways than one.
Sylar is pretty smooth. I love how he initiates the friendship between him and Livienne. From the moment they meet, they become almost inseparable. I love their relationship, starts off small but ends up a pretty big deal.
Now throw in some witches, deaths, and disappearances and you’ve got yourself a mystery. I don’t want to give the story away but trust me when I say, you will definitely wanna start this series.
Action packed, great sense of humor, wonderful characters, and hidden abilities Red in the wonderful world of Shady Oaks is the series for you!
I really enjoyed this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Things aren’t what they seem in a Shady Oaks with the unusual disappearances and a town full of secrets. When Livienne and Sylar meet for the first time they feel a connection and work together to protect Shady Oaks. It’s a book filled with magic, mystery, intrigue, and secrets. A great read and one I highly recommend.
I love when fairytales are retold, and done well. I really like when you take a small town full of supernatural beings and spin tales around them, and this spin on Little Red Riding Hood is a great adventure. There’s witches, hunters of various natures, fallen angels, hellhounds, demons and more, really, who could ask for more?
What an amazing read and a different tale of little red riding hood. I feel like I have definitely lost out and not knowing this series had been written and starting on book 3! I will definitely need to start from the beginning but I didn’t feel like I missed any details since it was a great story. Livienne and Sylar felt a cosmic connection from the first time they meet and working together to protect the community of Shady Oaks were shady disappearances kept happening. This book has it all.
I love this book! The main characters are so brave, I like how Livienne wasn´t hiding behind Sylar or didn´t need him to save her, they were fighting and solving the mystery together.
The story is really good and it´s not predictable. There were a few times were I though I knew what was coming next but was surprise with how everything turned out.
I like how this was different from other paranormal romance books I have read, there´s some new kinds of shifters I didn´t knew and some interesting new shifters enemies.
Is my first book of Paranormal from Stephanie, I had only read MC and Sports romance but I now want to read all her paranormal books cause this is a great book, the story and the characters are all really good and you just want to keep reading without stop.
3.5 stars. This was an interesting take on Little Red Riding Hood. Liv and Sylar aren’t what they seem to be on the surface and there is nothing normal about Shady Oaks. It seems everyone has secrets and we get to watch them unfold. I felt there were a few characters that needed some better backgrounds but overall an enjoyable read.
An amazingly vivid story full of supernaturals galore. A modern day little Red riding hood with a twist. Kept me turning pages and wanting more! Wasn’t predictable either a few jaw dropping “ I didn’t expect that” moments. This was my first book by this author and I definitely was not disappointed!! Looking forward to reading more of her work
