“I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”
“I live for you,” I say sadly.
Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.”
Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.
But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.
Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

This book is amazing
Great book couldn’t put it down when I got my hands on it highly recommended along with the rest of the series
This is the most amazing series I’ve ever read. Period.
I had almost given up on future dystopian fiction. Everything after THE HUNGER GAMES had fallen flat for me, and I scrolled past all the books on Amazon labeled as such. Meh, I said. I’m not interested. But when I was researching covers for The Nogiku Series, I kept seeing this cover for RED RISING near the top of the list. I liked the cover a lot …
I have had this book on my to be read list for a couple months now and finally got around to reading it…and bloodyhell that was amazing. I took my time reading this one because I really wanted to grasp the story and understand everything that was happening. Pierce does an amazing job setting the scene and creating characters that are relatable. …
The book started off great and the main character was sympathetic, but by the time he was transformed and sent undercover, he became so arrogant, that he was hard to root for and sypathize with.
Love these books! An original idea – very creative and imaginative. Would love to see this play out on the big screen as an epic sci-fi fantasy movie.
When I finished this book, I thought, “What makes a book a classic? Because this book has it all.”
This book has wonderful characters, great world-building, and is so well structured. I love this book.
Right at the end of Chapter 9.
I started reading, and was intrigued by the unique voice of Darrow (that’s good, because this is all first person), but was wary. Few main characters have caught me like Lessa did in Dragonflight, but Darrow caught me soon enough. I liked his family dynamics. The hints at how his is only a tiny part of a …
An outstanding book and an outstanding series! Highly, highly recommend. I loved the series so much we bought the books! Very original!
Loved it!
I can’t say enough about this series. I don’t get enthralled by books often, I’m just too danged picky, but this one was so interesting right from the get-go that I was hooked. The writing style is both casual and somehow poetic. The characters are incredible and I wanted to root for them, but I have to admit, I was amazed where the story went. …
First in a trilogy. Great writing, great plotting, great characters you can root for with clear goals and motivations. Loved, loved, loved this book. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite series. I would talk about this to anyone who would listen. I remember telling my teen-son the entire series because he had to listen while we drove to our errands. He was interested but he doesn’t like to read. He would keep asking me what happened and if I had finished it yet. I loved the humor and the diversity of …
I really enjoyed Red Rising, a dystopian novel by Pierce Brown. Very imaginative with a lot of action-packed adventure! So excited that it is part of a series.
Was recommended Red Rising by a friend. So glad I picked this novel up. On a surface level this book seems like Hunger Games meets Lord of the Flies but in space. But as the world of Red Rising unfolds this book reveals itself as much more. The lead character and his motivations are compelling. The prose crackle off the page, especially the action …
I LOVED this book and the whole series!
love the start of this saga…fully hooked
This book was recommended to me by a friend who enjoys a lot of the same genres I do, so I gave it a try, and wow was I blown away by the world building, the characters, it was crazy! I really, really loved this book! I immediately read the whole series. I couldn’t stop myself. Highly recommend.
I’m not sure how I found this book, but I’m so glad I did. I could not put this series down, and I wasn’t ready to leave this world when I finished book 3. I literally couldn’t read anything else for two weeks I was so impacted by the tale. Love, loss, courage, betrayal, and a galactic fight for freedom. All I can say is wow.
