“I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”
“I live for you,” I say sadly.
Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.”
Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.
But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.
Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

i was hoping i would love this book but certainly, I could even finish it. I don’t recommend for beginners or teens.
I loved this book and series. Couldn’t put it down.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. There was a lot of cliche moments to get through early on, but it got its footing together by the second act. The main character was a little too perfect, but that could make for some enjoyable fantasy occasionally. It is a decent start to a fun trilogy.
All I can say is, “WOW!” This was quite original and a genre that I don’t usually love. But this book is extraordinary with its creative genius, its diverse characters, the exceptional writing style, and on and on. I love how unique the concept is!
I’ve had this book on my Kindle forever, but when I finally cracked it open, I couldn’t put it down. Amazing world building and so well-written. As soon as I finished it, I had to download the sequel.
If you like futuristic sci-fi action, I highly recommend Red Rising.
Well, that was painful.
I started the audiobook back in March on my commute to my new job. Then the lockdown happened, and I didn’t listen to audiobooks because I had no commute. Eventually, I decided to just buy the paperback and start again, and I’m *really* glad that I did. (to clarify, I was always going to continue it. It just got to a point …
I could not put this book down. The characters and world are so well done and the plot is continually unexpected. Pierce Brown knows his craft well. Ender’s Game meets The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter meets Star Wars.
(content: heavy profanity, mention of rape/sex, intense violence. ages 16+)
One of my favorite books; the series is incredible.
I’ve seen this book in the library for a couple years now, but I finally decided to check it out. This was an amazing book to read. The character development and world building is astonishing!
On a facebook group we had an open post about what were some of everyones favorite books in the New Age Young Adult or Young Adult stories and this one was mentioned several times so I took the plunge. I am so glad I did! I wasn’t sure what to expect because based on the mass amounts of people that recommended it I just purchased it and didn’t …
I absolutely loved it. Every page. Amazing!
Loved this book and the whole series!
It was amazing and wonderful. The world builds so naturally you’d think you already knew it existed. The characters are well written and the class system is well done.
Fun and action-packed science fiction. It’s not a very serious book, but it is very entertaining and kept my interest throughout.
Darrow is considered part of the Reds, each person born on Mars is stationed by color and by what they have to offer. Red is the bottom of the of the different colors. When a major event happens that changes the course of his life, Darrow has a chance to get revenge. Everything Darrow thought he knew is about to be shattered and Darrow will …
I enjoyed this book. Some aspects were formulaic (what Darrow finds out about the greater society) others not (helldivers). It made for an entertaining, enjoyable read.
Love it!
Slow start but I can’t wait to read book 2
freaking amazing
