Fabulous clean vampire romance! RK Close is able to write clean romance that doesn’t feel like a YA novel and is filled with sexual tension. The love triangle here is intense. The action and danger are tangible thought. What a great first book in a series.
Buckets full of slow-burn goodness with a twisty-turny cherry on top. Solid must read!
A fun read, with lots of slow burn goodness and twists and turns!
Fantastic story that is an action-packed adventure full of mystery, suspense, romance, and humor. Samantha is a P.I. who inadvertently snaps a picture of a vampire which opens up a whole new world and brings danger to her door. The vampire, Adam, tracks her down to see just what she saw and finds that he’s drawn to her. But this puts Sam in even more danger because there’s a vampire killing people in her town. Then there’s Gabe, her neighbor and crush, who turns out to be a hunter of bad supernatural beings. So you’ve got a love triangle but despite their hatred of each other the guys both agree that Sam needs protection. All the characters have great depth and you learn more about them each as the story progresses. Who will Sam choose? How will they defeat the evil vampire? What will be left when the dust settles? The ending will have you rushing to pick up the next book in the series to see what happens next to Samantha.
Audio version review:
Having read the book, it was a delight to hear it brought to life. The narrator really nailed the characters and their complex relationships and put plenty of emotion into the story. It was a little rough at the start but quickly improves yet there are still a few times when a character is speaking and it sounds a bit mechanical or robotic and flat. The story itself is full of action, mystery, suspense, romance, and even some humor. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series!
I am a lifelong fan of Vampire novels, so I am always looking for another great story in this genre..
Samantha Close is a private investigator and most of her cases revolve around a cheating spouse. While following a client’s wife, she thinks that she has found out that the woman is not only cheating on her husband, but with more than one man. Later that same night, Sam is visited by the hunky man she has seen with the woman in the parking garage. But, instead of being another lover, he is much, much more.
Sam finds herself drawn into the world of the supernatural and soon discovers that vampires are real. She also finds out that her neighbor, Gabe, is more than a mere human. I was reminded of some other vampire novels that I have read, but still found the story to be an enjoyable one. I would have liked a little more humor to ease the continuous tension in the story, but that is just my opinion.
Adam isn’t a very likeable guy, but I think that as this series progresses, the reader will learn more about him and grow to love him. I appreciate the fact that the author didn’t see the need to have graphic sex scenes in the book like a lot of books in this genre. Suggestive and seductive, but not graphic.
If you are looking for something original, this might not be the book/series for you. But, if you are a diehard Vampire fan, give this a try. The writing is very good and the story moves along at a fast pace. The narrator did a good job and her pacing and voices were just right. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author and chose to review it.
A page turning book, with interesting characters (a key factor for me). A little sexual tension, without detracting from the actual story line which has enough danger/thrilling moments to keep the book entertaining and the page turning. A couple of times the hairs literally stood up on the back of my neck. eeek good stuff.
A great start to an enjoyable series.
First in the Vampire Files trilogy, it is a fantastic introduction into the world this author has created. I became immersed in the pages and could not put it down. This story has everything, witty dialogue, suspense, and characters you will fall in love with. I couldn’t wait to begin the next book once this one ended! I highly recommend you read this one!
Good strong female character. Looks like it will be a good series.
This my first Rk Close book and I enjoyed it. I like the tension between the characters and the dialog. I will read another. I look forward to getting to know these characters better. Good series to try if you like vampire books.
A really good read! I love trying new books, and new series, from time to time – and I’m very glad I tried this one! Lots of fun twists and turns, and great characters.
Red Night #1 – A well written, humorous, romantic suspense filled with interesting characters, both funny and menacing. The book starts a little slow, but kicks into gear and is hard to put down. There’s a twist or two adding to the excitement and the humor never leaves the pages. I laughed out loud numerous times, the suspense and intrigue are great. The reactions of the female character are realistic and I appreciate her thoughts and morals. Hooked and looking forward to reading Red Moon, the second book. For those who care, there’s sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Moon #2 – Another well written, humorous, romantic, fast paced, suspense filled with interesting characters and a twisting plot. As with Red Moon, the excitement never stops. The female character is still realistic and keeps her head and morals. I look forward to reading more of this series. If you love Jim Butcher and Charlaine Harris, you will love RK Close! For those who care, there’s sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Dream #3 – Another well written addition to the series. Fast paced and suspense filled, with romance for several characters, RD introduces more interesting characters to round out the series. Plenty of drama, confusion and mishaps, while the female character gathers her resources and receives support in her endeavors from surprising sources. For those who care, there’s no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Wow, I’m very glad I gave this book a try. Red Night was a wonderful combination of romance, suspense and humor. The story moved at a good pace and characters were very likable. Within a few page I was quickly immersed in the world Mrs. Close created and before I knew the book was over.
Natalie Naudus did an excellent job narrating the story. Her performance is well paced and her voices are easily distinguishable between characters. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by Natalie Naudus.
I can’t wait to start Red Moon, the second book of this series.
Audiobook review: Red Night is a paranormal romance story in which a private investigator, Samantha, stumbles upon a paranormal event only to become an unwilling subject of fascination for a vampire. An age old vendetta placed Sam in trouble but a Hunter & a pair of Vampires are there to help out. Life is not easy for anyone and danger lurks in many shapes. Oh, and the love triangle will leave you rooting for the vampire or the hunter. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The plot was original, but the writing was immature. Probably good for teenagers. Too bad – i really enjoyed the plot
RED NIGHT is the first book in the Vampire Files Trilogy. They do need to be read in the order of release.
I have to separate the story from the narrator… that took me some thinking time.
The narration was good. First I’ll tell you all of the bad: I have the feeling Ms. Naudus shared the same cute lisp as Cindy Brady had when she was a child; there is a remnant remaining. She’s also a “g-dropper” – goin’, doin’, catchin’, etc. I have at times said I would read a grocery list if written by my favorite author. This narration was like listening to that grocery list and each sentence was an item to be purchased – separate and flat. (I would recommend a coach, such as YourVoiceProfessor). Still, I say it was a good narration, because I could understand every word that was said, even if cut off, and I didn’t lose track of the storyline.
The story, on the other hand, I loved.
Let’s start with the two vampires: Adam and Zachariah. As far apart in personalities as A is from Z. Never forget that they are vampires, but Zachariah is also a sociopath! Samantha, aka “Sam” is equal parts silly and serious, which I can totally relate to as a constant state of being. Rounding out the team is Gabriel – another sexy man intent on claiming Sam’s heart.
I got the definite feeling that there was a parallel to Buffy – with Gabe as Miles, Adam as Angel, and Zachariah as all of the bad guys rolled into one sexy package. Her BFF, Dayna, will have to take on the role of the Scoobies.
It’s hard to believe this is a first release for this author. I thought the story was very well organized, presented, and written. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing and occupied, especially since I’m an audiobook reader just trying to keep the miles going.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
#TeamAdam … though I’m admittedly usually #teamVampire for any triangle hehehe.
