Two people in different places in life.Full-time fireman and part-time rancher Caleb is living the bachelor’s dream and staying rent-free in his best friend’s place. Too bad it’s because he lost his house to a tornado and his best friend’s sister is the one that got away. At least she doesn’t visit often—the last thing he needs is to show her she was right about him: he’s going nowhere fast. But … nowhere fast. But when her cheating fiancé kicks her out, she has no place to go except her brother’s suddenly too-crowded ranch house.
After a streak of bad decisions, Brigit has to slink back home to nurse her wounds and find a job. To complete her humiliation, there’s no way she can avoid the first love she walked away from years ago—because he’s sleeping on the other side of her wall. At least it’s only a matter of time before she’s gone again. After all, there’s nothing in this town for her but bullies and cow patties…except a fireman in cowboy boots who melts her heart and makes her consider love again.
He’s not leaving. She’s not staying. If the reason they can’t be together is so simple, why is it so hard to remember?

If you like a hot cowboy romance story then Red Hot Rancher is a perfect book for you! This is the first book by Marie Johnston that I have read. I liked her writing, her characters and her storyline.
Brigit was doing everything she could to escape from the small town she grew up in, but when she has no choice but to return she finds that all reasons she was trying to leave were all the reasons she should stay. And Caleb was the biggest reason of all. He just had to find away to show her that staying with him was where she needed to be and together that could have it all!
Marie Johnston is a new author to me. Red Hot Rancher was well written and kept my attention from the first to the last chapter. I really liked the premise of this story so I was ready to dive in to this second chance at love story.
I love stories about Cowboys and fireman and this story combines the two. Caleb is a fireman whilst also running his family ranch, so to me this was a win/win story.
Caleb and Brigit have known each other since they were children and in fact were lovers until Brigit left town. Now she is back and in desperate need of help thanks to a cheating fiance who kicked her out. Staying at her twin brothers house, she is dismayed to find that Caleb is as well after the house he was living in was destroyed by a tornado.
Initially the relationship between Caleb and Brigit is strained but it is obvious that neither of their feelings for one another have changed. Can Caleb convince Brigit to stay and take a chance not only on himself but their home town?
The chemistry between Caleb and Brigit was smoking hot and as the story progressed you could feel it building. This was not only a hot story but one that had depth with angst, romance and heartache.
I really loved Caleb and Brigit, separately and as a couple and I was really cheering them on to get their happily ever after.
Caleb and Brigit went their separate ways after being found together by Brigit’s ambitious mother just before she went off to college. She has avoided her hometown for the past 10 years, despite having long term relationships with other men, because she didn’t want to bump into Caleb but when her life implodes she returns home for a temporary visit. The old feelings for Caleb are still there but there are no suitable jobs for her in Moore, even if she could get over her feelings of inadequacy fostered by the “mean girl” from her school days. So what does this mean for a future together?
Despite his unfortunate childhood and parent, Caleb is a fine, upstanding citizen of Moore who knows what he wants out of life; whilst Brigit has never been honest with her parents over the life she desires and has some growing up to do.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Love this series, looking forward to more
All of his life people have judged Caleb, not for what he’s done but because of his mother. Especially the mother of the woman he loves. He’s risen above it all to become a firefighter and run his grandparent’s ranch. Until his house was destroyed by a tornado. Now he’s living with his best friend, trying to get back on his feet.
Brigit has always tried to be the good daughter, obedient to fault. She went to college for a degree she didn’t want because it’s what her mother wanted. She even gave up the man she loved because her mother didn’t think he was good enough. Now she’s back in town, living with her brother and his best friend, trying to get back on her feet. Unfortunately, brother’s best friend is also the man she loves. Can life get more complicated?
