What happens when you’re living the good life after retirement and your world suddenly turns upside down? Will and Cass Henderson learn the truth after a family member is murdered, but no one believes them because they’re the prime suspects. The Hendersons have a red-eyed killer in the family, and they’re next on its kill list.
When Cass Henderson’s sister is murdered, she and her husband are confronted by the killer- Cass’s husband- and he admits to the crime. Unfortunately, no one else hears him and the police don’t believe the Henderson’s story.
It, as Cass thinks of him, created an airtight alibi for himself while leaving supposed clues that make Cass and Will the chief suspects. Family and friends turn their backs on the couple, leaving them alone and vulnerable to a murderer’s master plan.
But, he wasn’t prepared for Cass.
This is a fast-moving story with all the right elements of suspense and a touch of paranormal thrown in to create a book you won’t be able to set aside!
I give Red Eyes in The Darkness 5 lovely kisses- Scary good!
Red Eyes in the Darkness by D.L. Finn is a page-turner, a petrifying story of a killer who escapes the net of suspicion and shifts the blame to Cass and Will. I liked Finn’s style of building up fright with each word; it is interesting how she carries forward the story to make it more gripping and capture reader’s heart…mine beat faster with each sound that Cass could hear. How she reveals the identity of the killer is incredible!
This is not just the story of innocents being harassed by a person who slowly states his reasons; it is also the tale of self-belief, of determination, of faith in the unknown power that inspires and guides. I couldn’t put it down and devoured it within an hour. Highly recommended!
Wonderful short story, perfect for Halloween reading. This one has lots of tension from alienation, false accusations, and genuine fear from a stalker. Gets five stars from me.
In D.L. Finn’s Red Eyes in the Darkness (2019), you get a quirky twist on cozy mysteries, where the amateur detectives don’t actually detect the crime but they do solve it. Older retired couple, Will and Cass Henderson, are accused of a murder they didn’t commit. Though innocent, they can’t prove it, even to the satisfaction of their own family. What should have been their golden years becomes a cold world where their friends turn on them, where their money must go first to proving their innocence and then defending themselves from the real killer. It is only when they become desperate that they come up with a plan to clear their good names.
I was drawn to this story because of its focus on older people who must adapt and overcome when their dreams of a comfortable pleasant retirement blow up. Their attitudes are positive despite everything to the contrary, their faith in each other unbending despite everyone else’s loss of it, and their creativity admirable. It’s a short story and as such highly recommended for those who worry about the unexpected and want to see how others handle it.
D.L. Flynn’s Red Eyes in the Darkness is a gripping suspense guaranteed to leave you thinking–where is evil lurking, and why? This is a well-written story which will give you pause to look at people differently, just as Cass and Will found out when they were under suspicion of killing Cass’ sister.
Friends and family members want nothing to do with them, yet they haven’t done anything wrong. Even when the cause of their problems meets a predicted but untimely demise, red eyes appear elsewhere. Hold onto your seat as you read this one. An excellent story and you won’t be able to put it down!
This well-written short story hooked me from the beginning and kept me at the edge of my seat with its perfect amount of delectable tension in every page.
Cass and her husband, Will were wrongfully accused and arrested for the murder of her sister. In time, they were released for lack of evidence but the damage had already been done. Family and friends no longer wanted anything to do with them and kept away.
During a visit to Cass and Will’s home, Ronald, Cass’s brother-in-law confessed to having killed her sister and threatened to do the same to them.
Cass and Will immediately called the police and informed them of everything Ronald told them but the police didn’t believe them. Ronald was a well-liked and respected individual and he had already gone to the police to tell them awful lies about the older couple. He was the one who framed them and spread rumors about them to family and friends.
Cass and Will were in a terrible predicament but they were not alone. Someone was helping them and it wasn’t the police.
I recommend this riveting short story to lovers of the supernatural.
Not Your Ideal Retirement
This well-written story hooked me from page one. Retirees Will and Cass Henderson are accused of a murder they didn’t commit. The evidence was circumstantial and not enough for authorities to obtain a conviction. Still, friends and family, even their own daughters, turned away from them.
Left alone with their two dogs, “It” begins stalking them. What follows is a series of events that leave the Hendersons fearing for their lives. Determined to prove the identity of the killer, they devise a plan to outsmart their red-eyed stalker.
You won’t be able to put this one down!
A chilling tale about a stalked family…
Cass and Will are ready to settle comfortably into their golden years but instead find themselves fighting for both their lives and their sanity.
This well-written short is horror/suspense at its best.
