Thomas Harris creates one of the most memorable fiction horror characters ever written. This novel is bone chilling because of the research that went behind the writing.
This is a classic and shouldn’t be missed. I read this when very young and it scared me silly. I re-read it after the movies came out and realized just how great this book is. I’m a fan of the movies, but the way this unfolds in the book, is genius.
Great read. Couldn’t put it down
Would highly recommend. Story stays with you long after you have finished reading it.
I did not care for this book. I was a little bored with it.
Incredible Thriller !
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read! It. Scared. Me. To. Death! And I got so angry with the author because I thought that he was teaching psychopaths new tricks. He might have done, but probably not. Be ready because it’s a fear-ride from beginning to end! If this is your kind of read, you’ll have a ball. A terrifying ball, but still ….
An awesome book to read under the covers at night. There is only one “Hannibal the cannibal.” Hannibal Lector is the monster who can actually exist, and that makes him even more scary! Loved every minute of this book!
What can you say. Thomas Harris invented Hannibal Lecter.
Loved it!
Another in my top ten of fantastic books. Forget Silence of the Lambs- this book was the best!
Excellent writing.
All of his books are great, but this us my favorite!
It’s a shame there are only 5 stars. Thiis is absolutely the BEST book of this genre – I thought so many years ago when I first read it, and I think so now. Not saying much else because I don’t want to spoil anything for you. READ THIS BOOK if you like horror, crime, serial killer tales well written with great suspense and plot twists. Chilling.
Great book. Well written. Read this one twice. Definitely recommend
Another of Thomas Harris’ very scary novels.
A book and a story to be remembered. Great style, keeps interest until the last word of the last page. Incredibly good.
A book well worth reading again
I read this book years ago when it first came out in 1981 and was amazed by The Dragon’s story. It was frightening, yes, but compelling also.
The in-depth characters of FBI profiler Will Graham and the monstrous Red Dragon have stuck in my memory for all these years. And the brief cameo of Dr. Hannibal Lector – I was so glad a few years later when he got his first real book THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
Scary all the way through – and then when it’s revealed how victims were chosen, I can remember thinking “no one is safe.”
Author Thomas Harris has always been a pretty private person, doing hardly any interviews, and that helped with the mystique of his books.
When I started reading this book again, I was thrilled to see that Harris has a new book coming out soon in May 2019. I have preordered it. It’s a standalone book like BLACK SUNDAY was and it’s titled CARI MORA.
This book was great again this time around and now I’m off to read Harris’s masterpiece THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Fava beans, anyone?
I was grabbed by The Silence of the Lambs and have read and re-read all the books about Hannibal Lecter. A good read,
ground breaking serial killer plot
