Red As Blood: A Snow White Retelling by Anna Santos is a great story to read. This is book number two in this great series that I have enjoyed reading since book number one. I recommend this story to everyone who likes reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I LOVE a good fairy tale retelling. This one is a Snow White Retelling, but it’s not like any retelling you have read before. This is the 2nd in the Fairy Tales with a Bite series, but the cool thing unlike some other ‘retelling series’, these ones are interlocked. I haven’t read book 1, but you sure bet I am going to read it as soon as I can!!!!
You know the story, Snow’s mom is dead, she has an evil stepmother that wants to kill her, but there are some things you don’t know. Her dad is still alive, and Snow will be courted by supernatural beings. We have magic, vampires, werewolves, fae, and BELLE!!! What book isn’t great when BELLE is in it?!?!!?
Come along to Snow’s kingdom and find out what makes hers so amazing and see if she can find love, all before her stepmother tries to off her, and some more exciting events await you!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Great twist of Snow White! I really enjoyed the world that was created with the vampires, werewolves and Fae. Oh, the evil stepmother can not be left out. A wonderful story I highly recommend.
You won’t be disappointed with this fun and addicting retake on a classic. The story of Snow is fresh and unique but still familiar and much more exciting than the original. You still have your evil stepmother, the classic mirror on the wall and the enduring quest for power and jealousy. Can the prince and princess stay alive long enough to get and enough their HEA? Read and find out.
Snow’s mother was unable to conceive so she went to the forest to beg the fae for help. Shortly she conceived but died in childbirth. As Snow grew up, her father remarried. His wife was more interested in her looks and power than she was in Snow or her husband. When Snow turned 18, it was decided she should meet the eligible princes that she could marry from the surrounding kingdoms of werewolves, humans, vampires and fae. There she met her soul mate and things really became complicated.
This is the second book in the retelling of fairy tales. The first was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Though not absolutely necessary, it does help to read them in order. The world building is done really well. You can almost feel you are there. The character development is also done well as the chapters switch from different character’s point of view. The magic and abilities of the various races are consent and logical. I’m looking forward to the next book.
Anna Santos is a favorite author of mine, but even if I hadn’t ever heard of her I would’ve loved the hugely imaginative take on classic fairytales she has done with her Fairy Tales with a Bite series. I loved Book 1, Hunting the Beast, her take on Beauty and the Beast (with werewolves) was frankly fantastic. Now it’s Snow White’s turn in Red As Blood (Book 2), a steampunk tale complete with magic, fae, vampire, and werewolves which is utterly fantastic. We have an evil Queen stepmother in Marlena (deliciously well done) and a prince in Dorian (well, he’s a vampire prince, but his love of Snow will be proven real). Really everything you need (well, once you add in great writing and a really cool plot) for a fantastic novel – and one I highly recommend.
This is book 2 in the Fairy Tales with a Bite series. This is a Snow White retelling. I love fairytale retellings and this book did not disappoint. I loved the storyline and the characters and found them very well written. I highly recommend reading.

Red As Blood is a Snow White retelling with paranormal twists. Loved the connection between Snow and Dorian the vampire Prince. Queen Marlena is determined to get rid of Snow but will Dorian be able to stop her. This is an entertaining read with interesting character, and a story filled with drama, danger, suspense, magic and an evil vs. good storyline. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
It is an interesting re-telling.
This is such an interesting re-telling of Snow White there will be times you wonder if Dorian and Snow could truly have a happy ending and good old Queen Marlena does everything to screw with them. The story is written in both Snow and Dorian pov and it made for a really unique telling and very entertaining. It is a complete story yet there is a new enemy to face so the story will continue (see me do a happy dance) Great book with-in an outstanding series. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it
Long ago in the Meadows Kingdom, the King and Queen ruled fairly and the kingdom was happy. But they both wanted a child, but that never seemed to happen. The Queen went to the forest and begged for a child, but magic costs and the Queen agreed to pay the price. Her child, Snow, was born but the Queen died in childbirth, first reminding her husband not to remarry out of selfishness. But Lady Marlena, an evil witch, convinced him he needed a companion that was his best match; out of selfishness, he chose her. Now she set her sights on obtaining the twin Sacred “Fate” Mirror which could see the past and the future rather than just tell her how beautiful she was. Having the other mirror would further her plan to conquer all of the Fayland Continent since she could see the movements of all her enemies. But having no children of her own as an heir she could manipulate, she would need to get Snow out of the way first.
Marlena’s magic mirror suggested she get Princess Snow married. A supernatural prince would actually reduce her chances of surviving since those supernatural kingdoms are dangerous and filled with cunning creatures who, much like the Queen herself, wouldn’t blink at the thought of killing someone in their way. That would give her more time to manipulate the king without Snow’s recommendations to him. With the Princess almost 18, the Queen should send her away to her fate – or her death. They would invite many royal families – along with the supernaturals. They would find someone far away to take care of Snow. They decided on a masquerade ball a week after Snow’s 18th birthday.
Of the 7 eligible princes, only two were human. Snow knew nothing about them, whether they were kind, caring, loyal, or trusting. She felt as if she were taking a long walk to the gallows rather than to the ballroom to find a husband. Snow danced with all but the last Prince who had not arrived yet. She was not impressed with any of them actually and some were rude and arrogant. She left the ball and headed to the stables, only to find one of her suitors drinking a woman’s blood! She ran away, but stumbled – yet she never hit the ground. A man in a black velvet suit caught her. He asked why she was hurrying, and she told him about the vampire biting the woman. He said he would handle it, but she tried to stop him so he wouldn’t be harmed. He called her beautiful because of her kind eyes, kind voice, and being a good person for caring about strangers such as the woman victim and him. When she asked, he identified himself as Prince Dorian of the White Cloud Kingdom, a neighboring kingdom to her own.
Snow didn’t give Dorian her name but asked him to meet her in the ballroom to dance. He was surprised to find she was the Princess he had been avoiding. He wanted to court her, and she wanted him as well. Later Queen Marlena recommended the werewolf and warlock, but both had withdrawn their names. She at first hadn’t wanted Snow to pick Dorian, then suddenly seemed to change her mind. Queen Marlena does not want her stepdaughter to find happiness and immortality with a handsome vampire prince. She would rather see her dead! So what was Marlena up to changing her mind like she did? Would she be putting Snow in danger? Did she have a plan for harming Snow? And could Dorian protect his new love?
I was delighted with this story! The dialog was well-written and the characters came alive in the author’s story-telling! Grab your copy and enjoy a well-turned tale! Will the Princess find her HEA?
Book two of the Fairy Tales with a Bite series a well written story, that held my interest throughout. There is suspense, drama, danger, evil, magic mirrors, poisoning, and love between Snow and vampire prince of the White Cloud Kingdom Dorian. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
