This review is from: Red and the Wolf: An Adult Fairytale Romance (Once Upon a Spell Book 2) (Kindle Edition)
I loved this story! Full of action, drama, suspense and romance. A wonderful and unique world. A very detailed story with lots of depth and great character depth. A terrific action book with villains but not dark and depressing. I got lost in this world and hated to quit reading. Finished the book and raced to purchase the next story in the series. Excellent series with very little sex and few bedroom details. That fact alone rates five stars. I rate few books five stars. A good story that is light on detail and amusing is three stars. A detailed and original many layered, well written book is five stars. I could see all the action and sights in the book as clearly if I was there.
I really enjoy twists on fairy tales and Once Upon A Spell gives the aplenty. In this twist we meet a red riding hood who is looking to go visit granny, but is far from a helpless, naive little girl walking through the woods. I loved that the heroine is able to stand up for herself and actually kicks some serious @ss. She pushes back constantly against all the men who tell her she can’t do something. Our hero is amazing. He sees how great his Red is and after one slip soon realizes she can hold her own against anything. We also get to meet some of the characters from the last installment. Our dragon king and witch queen now have a family and are setting the kingdom to rights. We also meet characters who will obviously have upcoming stories (already published!). For people who don’t want heavy romance, this book has a nice balance. There is obviously a romance between the H/h and one love scene, but nothing above PG-13. I love this series and this particular book may well be my favorite. The audiobook is also quite well narrated.
I loved this action-packed twist to Red Riding Hood! I adored Conall and Sorcha. Their romance was a lovely slow burn, with sizzling end results! But the story…gah! I loved the story! Surprise twists, shifters, magic battles, fairies, and of course, the romance!
I loved this book. It was funny and made me laugh.
A great twist, new book written about a favorite topic of mine, red riding hood.
This red riding hood is a fierce hunter, protector, lead character, gone is the little girl skipping in the forest. The big bad wolf has been replaced with a big, hunky, alpha werewolf…and a wonderful, steamy, plot twist romance aspect. They, together, fight the real big, bad nasty character, the evil that is taking over the forest.
A fantastic new take on an old classic!
Uneven storyline and sometimes predictable. Fairy’s name is Tinkerbell. Too cute.
Another fine fairy tale retelling from Vivienne Savage. Like her take on Beauty and the Beast, Red and the Wolf is a character study as much as it is an action-packed tale of one kingdom’s fight against encroaching evil. In this story, we get to see the cost of sorcery played out upon more common folk. Where Anastasia and Alistair of B&B are royalty, Sorcha (Red) and Conall (the Wolf) are more your every day people – though extraordinary in their abilities and their sense of duty to their king and country.
I love the slow-building romance between Sorcha and Conall, but I love even more the adventure as they embark on their mission. I don’t like to slip spoilers in, but let me just say Red is no silly girl, the wolf isn’t just a sly beast, and the stakes are high in this rather epic adventure.
My rating would be R due to at least one graphic sex scene, and while I think the language is basically clean, I think there may be a little rough language that may offend those who prefer not to read any profanity.
