In Reconstructing Amelia, the stunning New York Times bestselling debut novel from Kimberly McCreight, Kate’s in the middle of the biggest meeting of her career when she gets the telephone call from Grace Hall, her daughter’s exclusive private school in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Amelia has been suspended, effective immediately, and Kate must come get her daughter—now. But Kate’s stress over leaving … stress over leaving work quickly turns to panic when she arrives at the school and finds it surrounded by police officers, fire trucks, and an ambulance. By then it’s already too late for Amelia. And for Kate.
An academic overachiever despondent over getting caught cheating has jumped to her death. At least that’s the story Grace Hall tells Kate. And clouded as she is by her guilt and grief, it is the one she forces herself to believe. Until she gets an anonymous text: She didn’t jump.
Reconstructing Amelia is about secret first loves, old friendships, and an all-girls club steeped in tradition. But, most of all, it’s the story of how far a mother will go to vindicate the memory of a daughter whose life she couldn’t save. Fans of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl will find Reconstructing Amelia just as gripping and surprising.

I am pretty old school when it comes to technology in literature. I often raise an eyebrow when social media and texting feature prominently in a book. With Reconstructing Amelia, however, Kimberly McCreight changed my mind. This is an exciting novel. A powerful one. And the use of technology does not hinder the book. Instead, it elevates it to a …
Read this quite some time ago and really liked the mystery. Though I always feel bad saying I ‘liked’ a book with such dark topics.
I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t like this book. It was chosen for my book club and is outside the genre that I normally read. However, I found myself instantly drawn into the story and anxious to find out what really happened to Amelia.
This was a hard subject for me to read about. As a mother, it’s difficult to imagine your kids having …
This is an amazing book. I never read books a second time but will definitely read this again.
A truly masterful mystery that has the depth that comes from a compelling relationship drama and the suspense that comes from a great whodunit. It’s a potent one-two knockout. In the opening chapters, Kate, a high power attorney and single mom, learns that her daughter Amelia has died. She’s told it’s a suicide but is later contacted by an …
A lot of reviewers compared this book (unfavorably) to Gone Girl. I have no clue as I’ve never read that book. However this novel is deeply interesting, with characters who tug at your heartstrings and make you feel.
Reconstructing Amelia is a standalone novel written by author Kimberly McCreight. This was a great mystery! I was thoroughly engaged in this story and did not want to put it down! The mystery surrounds the circumstances of the death of Kate Baron’s only child Amelia. Kate does not accept the initial conclusion that Amelia killed herself, and …
This was a tough book for me. I know this book has a lot of mixed reviews. But I have to say this will be one I don’t forget. The narrator does amazing job. I will be getting a physical copy of this book. I really got into this audiobook. It’s a tale of bullying that doesn’t get better until someone is hurt or hurts themselves. I think the author …
A good read
Amazing book with twists and turns that leave you in awe!. So glad I found this book. Wish this was a movie
Loved this one – super atmospheric and raising important social issues at the same time. To what extent would one go to belong with a popular crew? And how much really parents know about their teenage children’s lives? Also, as a New Yorker, I really appreciated how Brooklyn came to life through vivid descriptions and general atmosphere, serving …
I bought this book because I used to live in the Brooklyn neighborhood in which the story is set, Prospect Park. From the first chapter, I couldn’t put it down. It is one of those books that stays in your head long after reading. I have given it as a gift to friends with similar taste, and they were all as riveted as I was.
get it enjoy
Fifteen-year-old high school sophomore Amelia Baron is suddenly dead. Single-mother Kate, high-powered, overworked partner in a prestigious Manhattan, New York law firm, receives a phone call at work at an inopportune time to come to the school immediately because her usually perfectly behaved, studious daughter is being suspended for plagiarism. …
Great ook
Enjoyable book
I really enjoyed reading this book. Could not leave it alone until I finished. It was unpredictable, kept me guessing.
Liked the format of this book given the different perspectives from mom and daughter. It was tragic to see how Amelia’s life turned into such a short one and how her mom had to struggle to find the real truth. However, it was an informative book even though it was sad.
This book was great. Not what I had expected when I checked it out from the library. But the author did a good job on characters, places, and events. Very twisty.
I wasnt amused
