After reading the first book in this series, I had to continue with the next one in the series by Barbara Freethy. Wow! This one is just as a fantastic read as the first one. It is so very well written. Full of mystery, suspense, a plot loaded with twists and a wonderful romance. Bree’s past, which she wanted so desperately to keep in the shadows, caught up with her. I got so caught up in reading this book, that I couldn’t wait to finish it. Well done Barabara! You definitely know how to weave a tale of mystery and suspense, along with some romance. Looking forward to reading Wyatt’s story now.
This series is my favorite by Barbara Freethy. Of the two books in this series it is the top read, although Perilous Trust is a close second. An excellent story, intrigue, mystery and romance. There are a few hanging questions that hopefully will be answered as the series progresses. Well worth the time spent.
Barbara Freethy is good at getting inside readers heads. Reckless Whisper is intriguing, complicated and chilling. Bree finds herself drawn into a web of deceit that has close personal ties. What makes this tale so scary is that the pieces to the puzzle are lying in plain sight, but putting them together is a confusing mind game. The twists are endless, the danger is far reaching and the thrills are nonstop.
Wow! Reckless Whisper is an excellent book! It is an emotional,
& suspenseful story. Bree, is an FBI agent in New York. She’s been working on a case, when she is asked to consult on a similar case, in Chicago. Bree is very hesitate about going. There are not a lot of good memories there.
Nathan’s niece Grace, her best friend Haley, had been abducted from their ballet recital. He was at the house,
to comfort his niece & sister. When Nathan answers the door, he is shocked to see Bree, an FBI agent, standing there.
Bree & Nathan knew each other, from when then were younger. They both had very rough childhoods.
As Bree investigates the case, things were not adding up, & pointed in a different direction. Bree & Nathan work together, while working on their past.
Hold on! Your in for a wild ride!
The story will draw you in, from the very beginning, & keep you reading
till the end.
I can’t wait for Book three!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR EVERYONE!!!
We all have times & places from our life that we don’t want to revisit. What if a criminal forces you to revisit that time & you see what you remember isn’t exactly what happened? In Reckless Whisper, that’s what happens to FBI agent Bree Adams. The case she has been investigating involves a man kidnapping a young girl from what should be considered a safe place & leaving a white rose in her place. Bree & her team managed to rescue the last girl before she died. Now it appears that he has kidnapped a young girl in Chicago & Bree has been asked to go consult on the case. Bree had a terrible childhood growing up in Chicago & doesn’t want to revisit it. Why is the killer starting to make this personal?
Nathan Bishop has come a long way from his childhood. He’s a respected contractor living in a nice neighborhood. His sister is married, has a child & is no longer the junkie she was becoming in their old neighborhood. Now, his niece’s friend is missing & it appears his old friend Bree is one of the investigators. They haven’t seen each other in years. He didn’t agree with the choices she was making & she knew he was pulling away for some reason. The attraction he never acted on is still there but now it appears she feels it too. How can he stay away?
Barbara Freethy writes wonderful romantic suspense stories. The plot is action packed & never dull. I know I couldn’t put it down & kept reading “just one more page” trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Each book in a series can be read as a standalone but you end up getting hooked & read them all anyway. The characters are realistic & manage to grab your emotions from the beginning. Bree & Nathan were formed from their past but I like that their effort & fight came through in the way they’ve made something of themselves. Neither are defined from their past. Once again, I didn’t see the ending coming & that’s what makes Ms. Freethy’s books so good!
I love romantic suspense and can’t resist a book that offers romance and a tangled web. Bree’s and Nathan’s past has caught up with them. Though they said goodbye years ago, the secret they buried rears its head and threatens not to just destroy them, but a young innocent who is the key to releasing them from a terrible secret.
2nd book in the “Off The Grid:FBI” series, well just cancel everything on my schedule for the rest of this week I have to finish reading the rest of the books in the series. This book was just as good as the first and I have already downloaded the next one and will start as soon as I finish this review! I just love this series, its so well written that before you know it your done with the book and wanting more!
Everyone needs a good suspense thriller to keep their senses keen. Barbara Freethy has done so again with Reckless Whisper. When FBI Special Agent Bree Adam’s is asked to consult on a case in her hometown, Chicago, she knows bad news will follow. Meeting Nathan again stirs up deep feelings and the missing child case hits close to home for both of them. Be prepared to read this one through the night!
Loved the character of Bree and Nathan. Both had built a life away from where they had met ten years ago. A lot had happened in ten years You catch up with them and see how they reconnect again!
I really enjoyed this second instalment of the FBI Off the Grid series. For me, it’s the perfect amount of action, suspense, and romance. Looking forward to reading book three!
I absolutely loved Reckless Whisper by Barbara Freethy, the second book in her Off the Grid series. I really love romantic thrillers and Barbara Freethy truly delivered an incredible story with Reckless Whisper. Each book in the series keeps getting better. I could not out it down. I loved every page. I have read some of Barbara Freethy’s other books, both her romances and other romantic thrillers and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I loved the characters and the way she describes the locations in and around Chicago. I enjoyed that the location for Reckless Whisper was different from the location in Perilous Trust. I really enjoyed how the book was told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has shown that she is a master storyteller regardless of the genre. Reckless Whisper is the story of Bree Adams, an FBI agent in the New York Field Office and her former best friend, Nathan Bishop. As a member of the Critical Action Response Detail (CARD) team, Bree is sent to Chicago when it appears that another ten year old girl, Hayley Jansen has been kidnapped by the media dubbed, White Rose Kidnapper. When Bree goes to the home of Grace Roberts to interview her since she was the last person to see Hayley before she was abducted, Nathan Bishop answers the door. Grace Roberts is Nathan’s niece. I love the reaction that each one of them had to the other. Aside from the case, Bree has been receiving mysterious phone calls that leads her to examine her own past in Chicago and with Nathan. Bree left Chicago eleven years ago, when she was pregnant put her baby up for adoption after she was born. Bree and Nathan work together to try to bring Hayley home, even though the Chicago FBi office has benched her from the case. While they are searching for Hayley, Bree and Nathan share secrets from their past and begin to explore their feelings for one another. I really enjoy the plot twists and the surprises in Reckless Whisper. One of my favorite parts of the story are the poignant moments that Bree and Nathan share, and the moment between Nathan and his sister, Josie. I love how Hayley was rescued and that good triumphed over evil in the end. I love how the Epilogue, wraps up the ending of the story. Never would I have guessed who was behind the kidnapping and the threats against Bree, that was truly a surprise plot twist. I love how all the lose ends got tied up. It was an incredible story and I loved every page. So looking forward to reading Wyatt Tanner’s story in Desperate Play.
I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read, entertaining story, likable characters.
Easy to read, action packed story. Intriguing characters. I look forward toreading more book in thi series!
Freethy always delivers.
Could not put it down! Great story!
Love this series. Have read all of her books. Defiantly recommend reading this series and this author.
Not sure what to make of the ending but I expect that there is more to follow.
Love Barbara Freethy books. This series is outstanding. You just want more.
This is the second in the Off the Grid FBI series and I was disappointed that this one fell flat for me. FBI Special Agent Bree Adams is asked to join the Chicago FBI team when a child is kidnapped that may be part of her New York kidnapping case. The story started out well but then it was bogged down by her childhood friends and the continuous references to their growing up together and their hard times. With the reintroduction of Nathan Bishop the teen who helped Bree many years ago and the kidnapped child being friends with his sister’s daughter you soon are feeling enough is enough already. I decided to pass on the other books in the series.
Book was ok. Not what I expected. Seemed like an odd and contrived way to bring the heroine and her past back together.
