When hearing all the teasers for this book about Alice in Wonderland, I was wondering how the plot was going to play out as I’m not that big of a fan of AIW. It turns out I absolutely loved the plot/story line (which shouldn’t be a surprise that’s why Christine’s a favorite author).
With Player’s (Hero) “mess up” in the beginning of the story plus his realization that Zyah (heroine) is “the one”, Player was desperate to redeem himself. Thankfully he went to Hannah (from Drake sisters series) for help rather than his brother and sisters of Torpedo Ink (even though they are all learning and getting a little better at the relationship thing). As always I loved the hilarious banter between all the characters!! The way they all were with Anat (Zyah’s grandmother) was so heartwarming. I also loved that both Zyah and Anat were wonderful strong woman that didn’t take bull from anyone but also had an open heart and mind to accept and understand others.
I loved the connection between Player and Zyah …the way she could help him by healing and easing his mind. For some reason their connection reminded me alot of Jackson and Elle (my favorite couple Drake sisters series). This connection helped make them into such a wonderful strong couple willing to understand, compromise, and give each other what they needed.
Such a great ending….loved how the mystery was solved as it had me worried there for a minute (especially for Anat). So glad Torpedo Ink has more family to love them and for them to love!! Great addition to the series!!
Wow, this novel is ripe with exciting paranormal spy woo-woo. Meaning what a reader ultimately finds out is that there is a most unusual, diabolical paranormal-esque scientific kind of potential for extreme intrigue and damage stemming from the exuberant pursuit of ‘what-if?” from a genius mind. Sounds convoluted? Readers are in for a wild time before they even get to that exciting bit of story reveal. Never mind the mental landmines that dog the hero, Player, throughout the novel plus sized adventure. This is one romance story that has so many irons in the fire, that a reader will be hard-pressed to put it down, even for a minute.
The story opens with a crisis narrowly averted, only to tumble into another one, and another bigger one that is terrorizing residents in the town, only to discover that there is another one on top of all of them that seems much more sinister and worrisome. Player and Zyah have the hardest hurdles to jump in order to reach their happy ever after but it’s all worth it. I assure you.
The hot, graphic demands of the physical nature of a dominate man in the bedroom is met head to head, heat to heat by the heroine, and Zyah gives as good as she gets. She’s a strong woman in her own right and she stands up for herself whenever it’s required of her, yet she’s compassionate, loving and loyal. All good qualities that will help Player heal and overcome some of his worst nightmares. Fans of the series will understand where those nightmares stem from, and what the nature of them will most likely be.
This romance novel is well-written, exciting, has lots of depth with opportunities for readers to feel like they’re in the thick of things, and enough hot and heavy sheet action to appeal to the habanero level of romance readers.
Some of my favorite scenes in the book all seem to happen at The Floating Hat. I believe readers are going to giggle, laugh or chortle at the antics of Preacher and Sabelia. It was completely out of character for Preacher to get all frantically excited, demanding, rapturous and argumentative all at the same time. It was comical and I enjoyed every sentence. I hope those fiery sparks mean something for a future book. That would be cool. But other things happen at The Floating Hat that aren’t as comical but no less fascinating. I enjoyed the time the author had her characters spend there.
The HEA is great and it was written well, giving me assurance that Player and Zyah are going to be okay. There will still be subjects they’ll have to work out, but that is actually realistic to life. As time goes on and people learn more about the other, compromise, forgiveness, laughter and love will see them through. The heroine and hero have a strong base to work from.
Parts of the ending wrap-up were anti-climactic. There was such a buildup that I had high expectations and yet once all the cards are on the table, I thought to myself, “That’s it? That’s all there is?” The interpretation of the eyes and how it ends felt like a letdown. As weird as this sounds, I thought it resolved too fast, too … happy? Considering how stressed everyone was, with good reason, you’d think I’d be happy it eventually led to something surprisingly unpredictable, but I’m kind of not. Not totally, anyway. Perhaps my anticipation was because of misinterpretation? I don’t know and it’ll be up to readers to decide for themselves.
Overall, Reckless Road is a wonderful addition to the series and quite a good read. It kept my interest from the first chapter until the very end and there was a lot of emotion and feelings affected along the way. I liked Player and Zyah, her grandmother, Anat, and a few other characters. The feeling of family is still solid and I think it’s one of the strong points of the novel and series as a whole. I think fans of the series are going to like this one. I know I did.
Christine does it again
It is Players turn to find the woman who can make him a better man but one who can accept all he has been through and be the mate he needs. This story takes place in Caspar and trouble has come to town in the form of thieves who not only steal from the elderly but beat them too. Player is hurt while trying to protect Zyah. Between Steel and Zyah they are able to heal him but not eliminate his debilitating migraines where his relief is building bombs in his head. Torpedo Ink has to stay and protect Player but also Zyah and her grandmother Anat, watching these strong men fall to the charms of Anat melt your heart Watch as Jonas and Jackson help Torpedo Ink find the thieves who are tearing their town apart and figure out the mystery of a very strange map that just might be a deadly way to eliminate ones enemies! I love watching Player find special ways to win Zyah’s heart. The interactions with Hannah are wonderful We get a huge peak at Savage and Destroyers human side. Lots of information going on in this story One of my favorite couples
Another outstanding books by one of my favorite authors—always enjoy reading her books.
Another great book by Christine Feehan. I love this series.
I would definitely recommend this book. I love the Torpedo Ink series. I enjoyed reading Player and Zyah’s story. This book started out strong and stayed that way all through the book.
I enjoy anything by Christine Feehan.
Watching the love between Player and Zyah unfold was very entertaining. I really enjoyed this story, as I have for all the other Christin Feehan books I’ve read, she is a fantastic story-teller!
Player is not like his brethren in Torpedo Ink. He feels he is a danger to the rest of the club. He meets his other half but messes up so bad that he has a heck of a time getting her back.
This is the best book in this series so far. I was afraid there would be more strange kinky stuff like in the previous books. Thank goodness that wasn’t the case.
As a long time Feehan fan I was happy to read a story that was more content than sex.
There are triggers from there childhood that are not easy to read.
This was a great book ! As ever, Christine Feehan delivered a fantastic story !
Player and Zyah were an amazing couple. I loved every bit of their journey which was rich in emotions, inspiration and heartache. They experienced an immediate deep connection when they first met until Player made a mistake that nearly ended their relationship before it really began. Zyah was an incredibly strong heroine who wasn’t about to accept anything less than everything from any man so our hero had his work cut out for him. I actually loved that she was such a strong character. Of course, there was the usual suspense, romantic heat, and intricately detailed storytelling that comes along with every Christine Feehan book.
I adore the Torpedo Ink series. Can’t wait for the next one.
Third time is not the charm. I have previously read ‘Judgment Road’ and ‘Vengeance Road’ of the Torpedo Ink Series, and very much like them—I am unable to find anything worth mentioning. It’s a very repetitive, drawn out story with uninteresting characters whose chemistry was non-existent and a boring plot that had me yawning more than once. It fell flat to me and because of that I was unable to connect with this novel. The only mildly interesting bit was the psychic abilities that each MC member has. Besides that, there is nothing that truly stands out and it wasn’t worth more of my time and energy to complete this.
Love this story and what it adds to the Torpedo Ink series.
We start off learning why Player was so quiet in previous books, come to know his psychic gifts and what happens with them when he is tired, has used them too long and migraines begin. We meet the heroine, Zyah, who has amazing psychic gifts herself. We learn she can sooth Player, distract him, and help him control his overwrought abilities and the danger they can bring to innocent people and those he cares about…a danger he has never told the Torpedo ink members. And yes, we see Player, exhausted and a bit delusional fall back onto the code Czar instilled in them for their safety and insult Zyah in the most insulting way a man can.
What follows is a beautifully written paranormal tale of a journey to love, through the use of psychic gifts and connection as they try to solve his psychic chaos that’s putting everyone in danger. At the same time reality takes Torpedo Ink on a hunt for thieves and murderers! Zyah’s a strong woman who’s always known love and must learn what it’s like to love a man who has broken and tortured soul. Player’s a man who doesn’t know love or know how to give or receive it. He must learn to not use his past as an excuse not to grow or let others in. Not to use it as an excuse not to move forward. It’s an emotional must read- must experience story! Just know it includes a “I can’t believe Christine did that to him” plot twist!
My heart breaks for Player as his nightmares reveal what his life with Sorbacov was like, what he did for the happiness of the others even though it tortured him, but what was more heart breaking was how we see Player try and convince Destroyer he belongs with the Torpedo Ink family, deserved his spot with them, and he soothed Zyah, telling her that the facts were needed, had to be shared and discovered before judgement was passed… yet he denies himself the worthiness of both. The fact that Zyah doesn’t reject him or judge him makes him feel more shame. He wasn’t worthy of her. Her grandmother, Mama Anat is driving force to move him forward, with wise words and a kind heart. She grows to be special to him and all of Torpedo Ink as she becomes part of their lives.
How does he prove he’s ready to move forward is definitely an enjoyable part of this must read story … Love the lessons he learned through SeaHaven friends and even the advice from his Sisters. This book is full of strong intelligent women! Love their addition to the plot that helps Zyah and Player move along the road to a Happily Ever After. As their relationship grows, Player and Zyah follow their psychic connection to try and solve what’s disrupting his gifts, making him a danger to everyone. His issues finally force him to tell Czar the secrets he’s kept, I hope the reaction from Czar and the other members of Torpedo Ink, who also pointing out how many times he saved them, take away his guilt, his feeling of odd man out. They both learn that being open to giving and receiving love, happily, includes the hot sex and help they can give each other, too.
They spend so much time looking for clues in his past to solve his psychic issues, they almost miss the true danger staring them in the face! Oh the revelations that come from it when they figure it out! And Torpedo Ink, along with law enforcement from Sea Haven close in and deliver karma to those threatening the elderly in Caspar and Sea Haven. Bringing action and the teamwork they do so well!
As usual, one member finding love brings more to the rest of the club, too. But I believe more so in this journey… I love how Zyah, Mama Anat, and the community of Sea Haven (some favorites!) and Caspar help the members of Torpedo Ink understand more of their new normal. The moments of humor and bonding between them all are so well written! The events that move the plot reminds us how special Sea Haven is and shows how Caspar is beginning to become not just a place to exist but a home for these tortured souls. I can’t wait to revisit this series and see where they go from here!
Just one word for Christine Feehan’s latest Torpedo Ink novel, Reckless Road…WOW! Once again Christine pulled me in to the magical world of Sea Haven, Casper and the motorcycle club of Torpedo Ink. This book has everything I have come to love from Christine Feehan, great characters, you can’t help but love, a fantasy world full of quirky people with pyschic gifts, plenty of steamy sex and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seats.
If you have not read any of this series before , DO Start! Her main characters, the members of Torpedo Ink, are all tortured individuals who are trying hard to fit in to a world they really don’t have any background in. So they hang out on the fringes. Beneath their scary exteriors though they have a strong moral code of honor and a protective instinct especially for vulnerable women and children. Christine Feehan always tackles the hard topics of pedophiles, human trafficking, sexual abuse and just plain evil. This book she deals with traumatic brain injury, the use and abuse of pyschic gifts as well as abuse of vulnerable elderly in a community. In each book in the series she has continued to develop the the men and women of Torpedo Ink helping you to understand their different proclivities and personalities. Also each of their paranormal psychic abilities are further explained as the series goes on. All her novels include erotic sex scenes and some have accused her of being over the top with steamy sex in previous Torpedo Ink novels. But with Reckless Road I believe the sex helps the reader to further understand how deeply broken Torpedo Ink members especially the main character, Player , believe themselves to be. With that brokenness, it’s easy to see how difficult it is to trust anyone outside their group and yet Player and the rest continue to find the courage to interact with the community they have chosen to build their homes in. In Reckless Road , Christine does what she does best, combining romance, with an edge of your seat plot, lots of suspense while bringing the reader closer to a community full of fascinating people who love unconditionally. I really loved the interaction between Player, the other members of Torpedo Ink and the quirky elderly people of Casper and Sea Haven. I also like that in Player, his lover Zyah and her grandmother Anat , she has introduced some different psychic abilities that really set these characters apart from previous stories. And this book includes more interactions with some of her other loved characters from previous series. This book is Christine Feehan at her best! I loved this book and am only upset that I now have to wait for her next book. If I didn’t have so much on my TBD shelf, I would re-read the whole Torpedo Ink series while I wait for Book 6. Instead I will set my alerts so I can preorder her next book.
I loved Player’s book!! He and Zyah are absolutely perfect for each other! As with the others, he of course has his own issues due to his childhood. But honestly, I felt like he was less traumatized compared to the other’s stories we have gotten so far. But that doesn’t mean that his trigger’s and such aren’t just as bad. And yet somehow, he managed to hang onto this sweet side that I didn’t expect out of him. Zyah is definitely this beautiful, sweet soul and I loved her! I loved seeing not only the other members of the MC but I also loved seeing some beloved characters from the Sea Haven series. And let me just say, that I definitely wouldn’t mind a story for a certain little shopkeeper! I loved her attitude! This one is right up there with Reaper’s story for me, and I was surprised by that! Loved it!
Another steamy, suspense-filled read…
Player and Zyah were the linchpins in this MC, family-focused romance and the chaos surrounding them. If you’re a fan of this series, Player and his family are no strangers. They survived he** growing up and bonded over death, danger and hope. Now they were the ones in charge and survival was still driving every move. Zyah and her grandmother were sweet additions to the group and they balanced out the rougher edges of Player. Zyah and Player’s rocky start meant a lot of angsty moments beneath them, playing out alongside the deadly threats stalking them…
Sunshine and darkness together made for a fractious courtship but that meant the drama and emotion were front and center as well. Steamy moments, deep conversations, and suspense meant this story had no weak moments but lots of anxious page-turning…
While the storyline seemed quieter than others in the story (which meant perhaps one notch lower than normal lol), that didn’t mean there wasn’t one scene after another of ‘get lost in the plot’ reading. Whether focused on the danger stalking Zyah and Anat, or the love growing between Zyah and Player, or the friction between all the characters… Yeah, lots of reading to savour…

Reckless Road is the 5th book in the Torpedo Ink Series and follows the story of Player and Zyah. Player is one of the calmest members of Torpedo Ink MC, so it might surprise you that he is considered to be one of the roughest. Not much seems to bother Player except when his gifts get the best of him. On one of his darkest nights, he meets Zyah and somehow she manages to soothe him. Their night together was amazing, but an innocent mistake threatens to ruin what was developing. Will Player be able to make things right? Will Zyah give him a second chance? There’s only one way to find out.
Overall, I thought this book was a pretty enjoyable read. I thought it well written and had a good pace. The characters were enjoyable and entertaining. I liked learning about Player’s gift and was utterly fascinated by it. I thought Player and Zyah were a good match. They had amazing chemistry and I really like how Zyah could settle Player. Just like the previous books in this series, this story had an intensity to it that draws the reader in and leaves them begging for more. All in all, a fine addition to this series.
4.25 stars–RECKLESS ROAD is the fifth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult TORPEDO INK erotic, paranormal, MC romance series, a spin off from the author’s Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series which in turn is a spin off from the Drake Sisters series. This is Gedeon ‘Player’ Lazaroff, and Zyah Gamal’s story line. RECKLESS ROAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
WARNING: RECKLESS ROAD contains scenes, and makes reference to voyeurism, graphic violence, rape, murder, torture, child prostitution, and abuse against children, women and men, and may not be suitable for more sensitive readers. The violence is a part of the history and lives of the Torpedo Ink crews. The eighteen original Torpedo Ink members are the sole survivors of a Russian pedophile ring, and as such work towards rescuing children and women in similar situations.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Zyah and Player) RECKLESS ROAD follows in the aftermath of Player’s return to the Torpedo Ink compound following a recent road trip. With the ability to create lifelike illusions, Player’s mind continues to fracture, and his own grip on reality begins to falter. Believing his ‘brothers’ have procured him the services of an exotic dancer, Player indulges for one night, only to discover the woman, Zyah Gamal is no wh*re but his fated mate. Hoping to make amends, Player enlists the help of his Torpedo Ink family but all is not well in the seaside town of Caspar when a series of home invasions escalates, and Zyah and her grandmother have been targeted on more than one occasion. With the Torpedo Ink members keeping watch over Zyah and Mama Ant, Player is ambushed, and spends his recovery with Zyah and her grandmother but the psychic fall-out of his injury worsens, and threatens the people he knows and loves. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Zyah and Player, and the potential fall-out as Player’s mind continues to deteriorate, and the break in reveals a familiar pattern and foe.
Gedeon ‘Player’ Lazaroff believes his psychic gifts have caused more heartache and pain than have done any good for his brothers and sisters in Torpedo Ink. As the fall-out of his psychic gift continue to haunt and further destroy what’s left of his mind, Player will get some much needed healing and help from the woman with whom he is falling in love. Zyah Gamal moved to Caspar in an effort to be closer to her beloved grandmother but Zyah never expected to fall for a man who would break her heart, a man who is broken both inside and out. Time spent with Player reveals a man whose tortured past continues to inflict wounds that refuse to heal.
The relationship between Player and Zyah begins as a one night stand that quickly spirals out of control. Believing she had found the man that called to her heart, Zyah would be pushed aside by a man whose demons rode very close to the surface. Player never expected to find his own happily ever after but making amends to Zyah is about to push our hero over the edge. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful powerful and energetic secondary and supporting characters move of whom we have met throughout the previous series or two. We are introduced to Zyah’s grandmother Mama Anat, as well as Hannah Drake ’s (Sea Haven series) assistant Sabelia. The requisite evil has many faces.
RECKLESS ROAD, like the previous instalments, continues to focus on the graphic details, rape, torture and abuse inflicted upon the characters as children, children trained to be killers and assassins. The PTSD and constant reminders push at the members of Torpedo Ink, leaving guilt, grief and loss in its’ wake.
RECKLESS ROAD is a story of family, relationships, secrets and lies; of pain, tragedy and heart break; of betrayal, vengeance, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic, dark, staggering and raw; the romance is edgy ; the characters are broken, wounded, and tragic.
Reckless Road continues the story of the men of Torpedo Ink. I love this series and was excited for this entry. Player hasn’t been a huge focus before and I was interested in his story. His psychic talent is fascinating and Reckless Road blends every element about the club I have come to love!
There are parallel plots to Reckless road: old people are being beaten and robbed and the club has stepped in to protect a few; Player’s illusions are creating a dangerous alternate reality that could kill everyone. The love story follows both plots and is woven in perfectly. I loved Player and Zyah. Zyah is very grounded and far too kind to everyone. She cares so deeply about people, and she has her own gifts. She thought Player was her soulmate, but then he crushed her. Player loved Zyah from the moment they met, but he pushed her away because he was in danger. God save us all from men who think they know what’s best.
Reckless Road is a long book at 480 pages, but it never felt long to me. Its scorching hot, danger filled, and touchingly romantic. Readers who enjoy a touch of the mystical in their romance will delight in this book and its unique love story.
(4.5) Be still my heart. Player in Hannah’s shop had me in swoons, tears and laughter. The interactions with all were priceless I absolutely loved our big, tortured motorcycle guys watching out for the elderly, their gentleness and protectiveness. Player has layers to him we never knew, and the guilt this man carries. Oh my. Zyah brought tranquility, strength, intelligence and love to this series. My one issue is we all know Jacksons and Deverau from her Sea Haven Series and they are no push over, so I am having a little bit of trouble believing they are not seeing through some of the happenings with the club. This is a Christine Feehan novel so it had the non stop hot and steamy and then some. This is also her darker series in that all of the characters have endured beatings, whippings, abuse, sexual, physical and mental when the were children and teens. It is beyond gut wrenching, but the worse part is several levels of this goes on everyday all over the world. This series is about surviving, hoping and loving, At the end of her book Christine puts organizations and numbers you can reach out to help with, or reach out for help. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions
