A timeless love story with bite.It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the exceptionally handsome–and unfortunately deceased–young man on her embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her lifeforever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.Humans aren’t supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It’s … vampire, exists. It’s kind of a major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.
That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny’s mind clean, she reveals a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…
Reborn Yesterday is a standalone paranormal romantic comedy with a happily ever after.

A Tessa Bailey paranormal! Fantastic read I highly recommend!
All the heat Tessa Bailey always give us, but with a paranormal twist! I’m so here for this! It’s whimsical, steamy, funny. Exactly what we look for from this author in a n completely unexpected new package!
I’ve been hoping for a paranormal romcom revival for a while now (MaryJanice Davidson, please stand up). Even though this is Tessa Bailey’s first PNR, I’m not remotely surprised that she is the one to bring me this energy.
I mean, seriously. Banter? Tessa Bailey Dirty Talk?? VAMPIRES???? Sure, just tip me over the edge, why don’t you.
The cover is gorgeous, the premise is fabulous, I am quite literally trapped in the house and gagging for some hardcore escapism, and here is Reborn Yesterday, sweeping in like a bookish superhero, to rescue me from the weird boredom-anxiety mixture currently ruling my days. Thank you, Tessa Bailey! Let’s do this.
My first vampire rom/com (not counting Twilight from a hundred years ago) and my first Tessa Bailey book, and OMG what have I been missing?!! This book was so fun and exciting—the characters, the action and the romance. I can’t even call it romance—it’s an all consuming compulsion—irresistible and predestined; my favorite trope of them all.
Let’s just start with Ginny, the biggest superstar in this story. She’s so beautifully “fleshed out”. An old soul who is drawn to retro fashion and old movies; her passionate movie quotes describing her as well as any mere words could. Her compassion for the dead and their loved ones left behind show her to possess some of the best parts of humanity—something that Jonas can’t and won’t deny. Yet she has very 21st century sensibilities. These aspects of her personality are what make her future believable.
Jonas himself is also pretty special. He’s vampire, alpha, and kinda bossy, yet he can’t completely leave his humanity behind. It’s his power and passion that injects excitement into the story. And who wouldn’t love a guy whose emerald eyes come to life like sparkling crystals when his emotions are ignited. As Ginny teaches Jonas, it’s working together that makes each other stronger and make them a more powerful team, able to vanquish the most formidable forces at work against them.
I’d call this story part mystery, part romance and 100% paranormal with a dose of fate and campy humor thrown in. I’m completely impressed with the whole package—the writing style that paints vivid pictures and the beautiful covers for the series. It’s a testament to the healing power of self-expression that Ms. Bailey was able to create something so fun and entertaining for her readers during a tough time in her personal life. I’m a new and enthusiastic fan.
“‘You don’t know this, love, but I would kill, steal and die for you. There is nothing to fear.'”
I was not prepared for this book. I really wasn’t. I felt the pull of both characters right away, but once I got halfway through it I just couldn’t stop myself until I knew how it ended.
And it was so much more than I expected!
“Movies that celebrated a time when men kissed women like they meant it and a glance across the room could speak volumes. Or spark a love affair.”
Jonas really is a total dreamboat – and a vampire. But he is also more than that – he’s protective, he’s honest, he’s sweet and loving, and kind. You can’t help but fall into the Jonas web – I did too. However, Ginny stole my heart. She’s such a wonderful character, one who enjoys old Hollywood movies and sometimes imagines she is part of them. One who sews her own dresses. Someone so different from everyone else, and someone who’s resigned to her existence as a mortician at her dad’s old funeral home.
Until one fateful night when Jonas ends up on her table at the funeral home. And although they are so very different in so many ways, and even though nothing can happen between them, there’s this pull between them, and it’s undeniable. Unavoidable. And so freaking awe-inspiring.
“‘With this kiss, I willingly damn myself to a lifetime of suffering. Happy birthday, love.'”
I feel like this book is about a lot of things. Yes, it has vampires and vampire slayers in it. And unsuspecting humans, too. And, of course, it’s a love story with a happily ever after. But the way we get to that HEA is very different, and it kind of makes me want to go back and re-read this book right now.
I felt really emotional by the end of it. It kind of felt like a journey, one that showcases Ginny’s huge heart and how she is showing us how we can deal with loss, and memories of loved ones, who never actually leave us.
And how those that do can sometimes come back because it was meant to be that way.
I am starting the second book right now. I cannot recommend this enough.
Absolutely charming–quirky, delightful, unexpected, and romantic! I had a smile on my face the whole time for this little paranormal romance. Don’t let the cover fool you–it’s perfect for the tone of the story, and I can’t wait to read the next book! If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted paranormal romance with great romantic and sexual tension, pick this up asap!
Tessa Bailey is the queen of dirty talk and incredible banter, and she wrote us a paranormal romance! Jonas is sweet and funny and smoking vampire hotness!
Reborn Yesterday was everything. It’s not surprising since Tessa Bailey can write anything but I went into this with a slight bit of apprehension. Sometimes paranormal romance can be a little hit or miss for me and I was worried that the things I love from Tessa Bailey might not translate too well but I should have known better.
Jonas and Ginny were such awesome characters and I immediately loved them both. From their very cute meet cute where I felt the sparks flying between them both to their very last words in the book. Their story was so unique and I loved their entire world. It made me feel that despite their obvious differences ( you know the whole dead / alive hiccup) they were both such kind and caring people who were fundamentally compatible.
The secondary characters were just as much a part of the story and I couldn’t be happier to see that Tessa is already off plotting their story. There were so many twists and turns throughout this whole book that I never once felt the “I know where this is going”. And a few times I had to put the book down and get a reality check. I was so caught up in the story and flying through the pages I didn’t want it to end.
And although I really want to gush and gush about this book I think you need to go in without knowing any of the twists and turns. Just know that it has Tessa Bailey’s flair for writing all the way through. It has the dirty talking, protective, alpha hero who is as sweet and loving and gentle imaginable with his strong, smart, sassy, funny heroine. It has great secondary characters you will fall in love with and be waiting to see in their own books. And it doesn’t have anywhere near enough words to last a lifetime. But I’m sure every time I see that beautiful cover I will be reliving the warm fuzzies I felt reading it.
Wow, just WOW.
This book is just everything. Starting with that cover! I cannot stop staring at it. And I promise, it does have something to do with the book!
Ginny is such a lovely, fantastic heroine, definitely one of my favorite character I’ve read this year! The premise of this story was beyond unique, and I’m so glad we’ll be getting another book in this series!
Ginny and Jonas have such a deep connection, and their chemistry is off the charts. This book will definitely be a reread for me.
“Mine,” he breathed, planting a hot, open-mouthed kiss over her pulse. “Inevitably, undeniably mine.”
“You are…my magic.”
Tessa Bailey writes PNR! I jumped on Reborn Yesterday because I love Tessa’s books. PNR was an absolute bonus. But I started reading and discovered its vampires and I died of sheer happiness!
Ginny is an isolate young woman running her family’s funeral home. Jonas is a body in the morgue that changes her life. You get a bit of the fated mates thing here as both Ginny and Jonas are inexplicably drawn to each other. Personally, I LOVE THAT! Jonas tries very hard to fight it because he knows being around her could lead to her death. However, when someone is trying to kill her anyway, he decides she is safer with him than without. I loved the uniqueness of this villain!
Ginny is adorably quirky and at the same time heartbreaking. Her life is incredibly challenged-she is a social pariah due to her job, her beloved father passed away, her family business is barely keeping her and her stepmother afloat. You really want to reach out and hug her. She loves old movies, cares about others, and has a love for making her own dresses.
Jonas’ life is much darker. He helps newly turned vampires adjust to their new reality. He has 2 interesting roommates, and until Ginny find him in the morgue, he life was pretty monotonous. He certainly has the brooding bad boy vibe down.
Reborn Yesterday will be a sure hit for fans of Tessa Bailey and I think it will draw some new readers her way with this PNR! Reborn Yesterday was giving me the Twilight vibes in all the best ways! Twilight was what got me back into reading. Bailey writes a great story full of danger, desire, and drama! I’m looking forward to more of the Phenomenal Fate series!
Reborn Yesterday is an engaging read that kept me hooked from start to finish.
Ginny meets Jonas unexpectedly one night when his friends play a prank on him by leaving him at the funeral home Ginny is part owner of. When she finds out he is a vampire things do not go as Jonas expects. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away as it was so much fun to read as everything unfolded.
Though there were some things about the vampire world I recognized, Tessa Bailey does a great job adding her own flair to the classic vampire characteristics. I am not usually a paranormal reader, but I found this book hard to put down.
I am really looking forward to the next book in the series already!
Reborn Yesterday is a fun-filled Reborn Yesterday is a fun-filled paranormal rom-com that had me swooning over the main characters, and is now my new favorite book from Tessa Bailey.
Jonas and Ginny meet under the most unusual of circumstances, and when this mortician and vampire cross paths, they soon realize their pull towards one another is strong and hard to resist. Their love story wasn’t an easy feat to conquer as chaos ensues, and Jonas soon discovers that Ginny’s life is in danger. The underlying unknown mystery is dark and dangerous, but don’t let that scare you off because there is so much angst and humor to keep you laughing and entertained from beginning to end. I only hoped for more steam because that treat was such delight. Can’t wait to read the next installment in this series.
To all the light-hearted peeps that follow my recommendations: this one is for you!
This review is hard to write especially since I’m such a fan of Tessa Baily. Giving her anything under 5 stars feels like a betrayal, of sorts. However, I have to be totally honest here. The book didn’t cut it for me. It started with the ever quirky Ginny who meets Jonas in the most unorthodox way. There was an interesting tug and pull that I wanted to pursue, cut short by the way plot was executed. I think the book had cute moments, but it seemed to drag. Soon I found myself skimming to end just to get on with it. So unfortunately, I’m giving this 2.75 stars.
Reborn Yesterday by Tessa Bailey
Rating : 4 out of 5 stars
Right off the bat, Reborn Yesterday reminds me of Amy Plum’s Reverant’s series. It has the same theme of vampires interacting with mortals and catchy writing that will grab readers. Given this, that’s the only thing common. This book brings out a fresh storyline that involves more romance and comedy than romantic suspense.
Ginny Lynn is a mortician by profession at her father’s (now her) funeral home, wherein she shares with her stepmother – P.Lynn Funeral Home in Coney Island. She has been around death for as long as she can remember that she enjoys her job, and keeping her father’s business and legacy is priority 1. But holding on to this legacy has had her become the town’s pariah as she is in the business of grief and death.
Jonas Cantrell is a vampire with a heart (?) or takes care of newly formed/turned humans into vampires and counsels them into their new lives. Like a social worker, he supports newbie vampires into a better and more positive transition into their new lives. It’s an intriguing concept since vampires are now “in-tune” with the times, and Jonas becomes a counselor and friend to these. An unfortunate (funny) prank by his roommates landed him in Ginny’s path in her funeral home, and things got a bit more complicated as the story goes.
The story is told from Ginny’s POV but a bit of Jonas’ side closing the end. Like Ginny, readers are left “in the dark” with the secrets Jonas has about his kind and the “real world” around humans. Many of the details are pretty fascinating, and even vampires have rules to “keep in line.”
In summary, Reborn Yesterday is a worthy read! It is a fantastic start to the series and is something that will make readers believe in sizzling, meant-to-be “soulmates.” I love the hope provided in the characters in their dire situation between human and vampire, but I also enjoyed the humor and witty retorts infused. It’s not easy to write books like this when there’s also the added suspense looming for both “star-crossed, fated” mates in any story. BUT the author did a great job in making everything work and come alive as the possibilities of vampires in our world. The ending is a bit “rushed,” but most likely because things were moving at a faster pace than 3/4th of the book – urgency of the situation, etc. I liked the action and suspense written into the story while the book’s surprises were flabbergast-worthy.
The book was a page-turner that I couldn’t put down. I wanted to finish it all in one sitting (!) because the author got me too hooked to even think of shutting the book. This book may be my first encounter with the author, but it will surely NOT be my last. I am now off to read through the rest of the series to find out the rest of the exciting characters and hoping to find out how their HEA happens.
I’m two books into this series and LOVING it!!
Normally I am not a lover of paranormal romance, but I am a lover of this one. It was such a fun, steamy and surprisingly touching book. It had me laughing out loud at times, especially with the things that came out of Tucker and Roksana’s mouths. It had me rooting for Jonas and Ginny from the moment they met. They were both so endearing in their own ways. Him with his protectivenessand her with her naiveté and quirkiness.
I went into this not knowing what to expect and I was delighted with what I got.
This was my first Tessa Bailey novel, so I was surprised and pleased with the humor. The hero is definitely an Alpha, but also endearingly vulnerable and (as all the best Alphas are) protective. The heroine is charming and quirky, as are the secondary characters. When the H/h succumb to their physical attraction, it’s pretty steamy and well written. There was one plot element late in the book that I thought should have been explained, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. I enjoyed this book enough to buy the sequel.
I cannot say enough good things about this book or this author.
I’ve admired Bailey’s writing style for a few years, now, and have thoroughly enjoyed her dirty talking men and the spirited women who capture their hearts. And I usually love it when a beloved author decides to step outside of their comfort zone and try their hand at a new genre; most do so successfully. As soon as I heard the title for this book I knew we had another winner on our hands. (Plus, I’m a fan of the Judy Holliday/William Holden movie, Born Yesterday, so I may have been biased to like it. 😉 )
What the author has managed to do here is weave an interesting tale that takes an old trope and turns it on its ear. One of the things that has prompted me to drift from my previous love of all things vampire is the fact that I cannot see what a centuries old man has in common with a 20-something woman. What happens in the in-between time, when they’re not fighting demons or evil wizards? What do they have to talk about when they’re not mediating between shifters and fae? The old joke where he asks where she was when Kennedy was shot and she exclaims “Ted Kennedy was shot?” (which should be adjusted to Jamie Kennedy at this point) highlights the disparity between the ages of the main characters. Bailey fixes this issue in such a way that I am amazed that no other author has considered this before. A brilliant solution to an ages old problem.
And then we have the character of Ginny, or Death Girl, herself. I love a quirky character, who isn’t reduced to Manic Pixie Chick. Ginny is smart, hard-working, caring, compassionate, and loyal. She’s been treated so harshly for so many years by “normal” people, you instantly feel for her and want her to find happiness. And when she begins to discover her inner strength, you can’t help but cheer for her.
Jonas is also a very trouble vamp, though he does manage to avoid the dark and broody trope that is so prevalent in this genre. I loved his dedication to helping the newly Silenced (the term used for those newly turned vamps whose hearts have stopped beating), and the way his goodness and honour made him friends whether he wanted them or not. He was truly one of the good guys, and still maintained the dirty talkin’ goodness that I’ve come to love and expect from the author’s heroes!
The secondary and tertiary characters are all fantastic as well. The author writes them with such clarity and amazingly individual voices, not to mention humour!
The pacing is on point; I never felt like anything was dragging and it was consistent throughout the book. Dialogue was great. Plot was great. THIS BOOK IS JUST GREAT!
This first book in the author’s paranormal romance foray is a roaring success. I’m already counting down the days until book #2 is released. You can be sure I’ll be one-clicking that sucker when it goes live. (And, yes. I’ve already bought this book for a friend and fellow Bailey Babe.) More people need this author in their lives, living and un-dead.
Take a young female undertaker working alone at night, a Greek god corpse who comes alive on the table and you have the perfect recipe for a great paranormal romance. It started off okay, but there was just something missing for me. I’m a big fan of Tessa Bailey’s contemporary romances so I expected to be blown away by this.
Ginny is a twenty-five-year-old oddball undertaker who makes dresses and has few friends. Jonas is a vampire with issues. He can’t have a relationship with a human but is instantly possessive of Ginny and can’t stay away from her. There are some crazy scenes with his two vampire roommates and a female Russian vampire slayer.
I think because I listened to this via audiobook it may be part of my problem. Sometimes its better to read than listen and sometimes the other way around. I didn’t care for the female narrator as much as the male.
All in all, it was an okay read/listen and I do want to read the next book in the series, Elias and Roksana’s story. I gave it three stars.
So this is actually my first time reading Tessa Bailey and the reason I one clicked it is because I kept seeing the cover all over social media and I just couldn’t get it out of my head. So I one clicked and dove in.
I used to read PNR all the time but now it’s further in between reads. I was so pleasantly surprised that this was PNR Rom-Com.
“I carry you in my veins, you carry me in your lungs.”
Ginny is a mortician and not accepted in her neighborhood and has been nicknamed Death Girl. Her love life is non existent and the only guys she meets are the ones that end up on her table. Lets face it dead guys don’t make good dates. That is until one night a particularly dashing gentleman ends up on her table and suddenly sits up. He is definitely not dead or is he.
She soon discovers his name is Jonas and he is a vampire. Ginny should be scared right, but nothing would scare her more than her memory being wiped by Jonas which he has threatened to do. Ginny is determined to keep her memories of him and to keep him forever. If only it weren’t for those stupid vampire rules about not hooking up with humans.
What transpire will have your eyes glued to the pages in anticipation of what these two plus their entourage will do in order to keep Ginny safe and keep Jonas sane.
