Personally I think this is one of Elizabeth Rose’s best series and writing. Rebellious Secrets is the 3rd book in the Secrets of the Heart series and Elizabeth has really outdone herself not only in writing but the creativeness of this series and her characters are truly wonderful. This medieval story revolves around a Queen that has passed away and a secret society for women. Each women had a strength and each book tells the story of that strength. Though in a series you can read Rebellious Secrets as a standalone but I really recommend you read all 3 books. They are so good and enjoyable. This story has revenge, abuse, cruelty, death, kindness, misunderstandings, support, new friends, evil, murder, a long lost love, greediness, rescue, protectiveness and love at first sight. I could not ask for more in a story. I highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Lady Maira’s father and family friend wants to make an alliance with Sir Gregory Arundell of Durham, The High Sheriff of Durham, so Lady Maira is being sent to stay with him to decide if she is willing to marry him.
Her cousin, Morag will go with her. Before they leave, Lady Maira wants to meet with her cousins at Imanie’s secret garden. where she meets a mysterious man, Jacob, who she thinks is a thief. But he turns out to be a Lord, who was framed for murder and has been excommunicated from the church and stripped of his title and lands, due to Lady Maira’s future husband.
Sir Jacob is out for revenge and asks Maira for help.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the 3rd book in the Secrets of the Heart series
This is the 3rd book in the series and I would have to say it is the best. I loved all the characters, including little Tommy and Alf. There was lots of action and suspense that kept me turning the page to see how everything was going to work out. Another book by the wonderful Ms Rose. Her characters are written with warmth, feeling and are far from perfect but as always find their way to their true self and true love. There was a sex scene but as always this reviewer skipped it and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of this book. I received this book as an ARC and am happy to give it the 5 stars it deserves.
Elizabeth Rose has done it again! Rebellious Secrets is an amazing addition to the Secrets of the Heart series. Maira’s talent is with weapons. She is a master of the blades she carries, and wants nothing more than to be a warrior. She comes upon Jacob at Imanie’s garden. He has a bag of things stolen from the cottage, so she believes he is nothing but a thief. When these two meet, sparks fly. He gets away from her this time, but they will meet again.
Maira is not happy when she finds out that her guardian has convinced her father to betroth her to the High Sherriff of Durham, a man at least twice her age. She doesn’t want to marry anyone. Although she was given permission by the late king to choose her own husband, she agrees to meet the man. She does, and discovers his is slovenly, greedy, and cruel. Sir Jacob Quincey was falsely accused (by the High Sherriff) of crimes, including murder, and excommunicated, and stripped of his title. He has spent three years planning revenge and planning to get back all he has lost. In an attempt to escape the castle, Maira finds herself in Jacob’s camp. They don’t trust each other.
They do share an intense dislike of the High Sherriff (to put it mildly). Can they find a way to work together to defeat him? How can they protect the people of the castle and village and rid them of the High Sherriff at the same time? What is the truth of Jacob’s “crimes?” How will they prove his innocence?
This is a “hold your breath” to see what happens next story. This exciting tale is fast paced and full of action, mystery, secrets, danger, courage, romance, and a visit or two from Imanie. Maira and Jacob lead a cast of complex characters that includes nasty villains, brave villagers, and wily servants. I really enjoyed and highly recommend Rebellious Secrets.
Third in the series and a chance for Maira to prove herself. I loved how she learned about inner strength as well as physical strength. She showed her strong physical side but found out she also had a softer, more emotional side. The story was a bit simple but was full of secrets. Once Jacob’s story came out, I found it easier to like him.
I received an ARC of this story, and this is my unsolicited review.
another wonderful book by a wonderful author! I was given an arc for an honest review, and I am happy to give this book 5 stars. Complex characters interesting and wonderful storyline. Wonderful adventures, mysteries and romance abound in this story of Maira and Jacob
Betrayal, intrigue, danger and a warrior stripped unfairly of his title and lands. What more could you ask for in a story? Sir Jacob Quincey had been falsely accused by the High Sheriff for crimes he did not commit and everything was taken from him. He lived in the forest and after three years he was ready to fight and gain back what was lost.
Lady Maira, has been forced into a betrothal to that same High Sheriff and resents it greatly. The only reason she would consider is because she cared about his small son, but he is a very cruel and vile man.
But as luck would have it, Jacob and Maira’s paths cross in the forest. Finding he is ready to take vengeance on the High Sheriff puts her in a quandary, but she cannot deny the attraction between the two.
An adventure that is sure to keep you entertained until you turn the last page!!
The story of Maira and Jacob was very good, filled with romance, danger, fighting, villains, and secrets. Loved it! I received an arc of this book.
At twenty it is time for Lady Maira to marry but the warrior daughter of one of the Legendary Bastards of the Crown has no intention of marrying a man more than twice her age. Unfortunately due to the influence of Lord Beaufort her father will not be swayed in his decision to betroth her to the High Sheriff of Durham; although the late king gave Maira permission to agree or disagree her betrothal he insists that she go and live at Durham Castle to get to know Sir Gregory for a fortnight, his only concession is that she can be accompanied by her cousin Morag. From their very first meeting, Maira finds him an unpleasant and cruel man but agreeing to help overthrow his reign of terror by helping the former Sir Jacob Quincey take vengeance on the High Sheriff is a step too far, or so she believes.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was one of the best books Ms. Rose has written yet. Maraia, daughter of Rowen the Restless, one of the triplets of the legendary Bastards of the Crown, fights and uses a blade as well as any man. But when her father betrothes her to The High Sheriff, she does not want to marry him. While in the secret garden, she meets a man named Jacob who she thinks is a common Thief. But he is a noble who has been stripped of his title in the hands. During a battle with Mairia, they both find themselves attracted to each other but Jacob is hiding a secret that it was the high Sheriff who framed him for murder and had him excommunicated from the church resulting in the loss of his title and lands. He plans to avenge the wrong done him but Mairia has developed a desire to protect the sheriff’s 2 year old son. She must choose between Jacob and protecting her loved ones. Can she have Jacob and protect those she loves? This was a very action packed book and I couldn’t help but want to see what happened to Jacob and Mairia, although I felt like I could cheerfully could have slapped her sister Morag for not being able to keep her mouth shut and spilling everyone’s secrets. I thought back to my sister who would do the same thing. Perhaps in her own story Morag will finally learn to control her tongue. Mariaria was the kind of strong heroine that I liked and admired. Only a strong man could attract a strong woman. If you wanted to be entertained with intrigue and danger, I highly recommend this book.
