Come fly with me. Catchy, huh? It works for airplanes. Maybe it will work for the dead once I launch my own Reaping business. Except my new tagline will be, come die with me.Back when my life was simpler, I thought all I had to do was hold gateways for the dead to pass through. Silly me, I actually enjoyed Reaping. Almost like a drug or fine, old whiskey, it made me high, filled me with delight, … me with delight, and left me glowing with the rightness of providing a last bit of compassion.
Good little Reaper that I am, I never examined any of it too deeply, just crafted portals, exactly as Death trained me. Ha! She neglected to mention I command way more magic than she’d let on in Reaper school.
Death smiled pretty to my face, and then lied to me. Used me.
Me and all the other Reapers.
I can’t not Reap. It’s hardwired into me. But I can tell Death I quit.
Big words. I have no idea if I’ve got the guts to follow through, or what Death would do about open insubordination.
I’ve always liked to live on the wild side, though, so I guess I’m about to find out.

This picks up shortly after the first book. Cait is back at work, trying to keep up with everything. Liam is back with the Sidhe, but he and Padhraic head to Cait’s when he hears from her. Things with Death are touch and go, and end up going very badly. Cait quits and later Death tries to get revenge…things go from bad to worse very quickly.
This book will sure keep you engaged and on your toes. I can’t wait to see where everything ends up leading.
This is the second book in the series and picks up right after the first. Cait has distanced herself from Death and is still working with the fae to get a handle on the vampire problem and Humans Rule. Liam is with her when Death tries to kill her and he is willing to do anything to help Cait and keep her safe. Not only that, word has spread among the other reapers of her conflict with Death and now reapers are everywhere. The Lords of the Underworld have spoken to Cait about the dark lords and offered advice. This book, like every book by this author, is fast paced, action packed, full of magic, conflict, but still has room for Liam and Cait to fall in love. It’s not over yet, but with all of the reapers and fae working together they may even stand a chance. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Rebel Reaper, book 2 of Ann Gimpel’s Gatekeeper series, doesn’t disappoint. It picks up where book one left off–with Cait telling Death to take a hike. Death is outraged and retailiates. But once again she underestimates Cait. Meanwhile, the dark mages, the vampires and Humans Rule continue to spread filth. Can a relatively small band of Reapers, Sidhe and gods be enough to make an impact or are they headed into a suicide mission?
The storyline is fast-paced, filled with magic and mayhem, danger, intrigue and a little romance. The characters are well-developed and engaging. I can’t wait to see what final showdowns book 3 will bring!
This book takes off where book one finishes.
The plot is full of twist, danger, magic and mayhem.
I had real trouble putting it down and can’t wait for the
next book.
Fantastic plot and characters.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is one series from this author I had really gotten into thanks to the freshness of the story. In this reaper’s story I adore the bits of sarcasm that is interwoven in it also. It is good thing you like what you do also. But then also good thing this character was not a robot to be programmed or we would not have a good story to follow. We get to continue right on with this following Cait and Liam with the pace being one that will keep you hooked not wanting any down time. The ripples have begun and the drama is one that keeps us riveted. Two sides coming together keeps it spicy also. Thank goodness more to come.
