Rebecca Copeland has always dreamed of becoming a mother, but a bout with scarlet fever takes away her ability to bear children. Instead of bemoaning her fate, however, she decides God must be calling her to teach school. She and her best friend, Hope Thompson (a former slave), embark on a new adventure to Pelican Rapids, never dreaming they would land themselves right smack in the crosshairs of … of a scheming matchmaker. Not only does Ms. Ella Milton not seem to understand their divine calling to serve as lifelong spinsters in the classroom, she already has the perfect beau in mind for each of them!

LOVED this book!!! I especially love that there’s a wonderful moment when the main male and his best male friend have a very touching moment. Not going to give it away, but I LOVED it!!! I also love that this book shows that anything is possible with God!!
I found it interesting that Rebecca & her companion Hope are matched with Hank & his partner Peter. Rebecca & Hank start out not liking each other while Hope & Peter are just the opposite. It’s fun to see what the 2 couples go through to get to their HEA. It’s an enjoyable read.
Rebecca’s Dream is a heartwarming story that will take you on an adventure from Georgia to Minnesota. When Rebecca and Hope board a train to Pelican Rapids they never would have thought that Hank and Pete sitting across the aisle from them were going to the same small town. The conversations on the train show Pete to be very friendly and Hank to be slightly irritable. The men have contacted a matchmaker in Pelican Rapids to get them a wife. They had assumed they would just sign a paper and pay the matchmaker and have a wife soon after arriving. But, on their first visit they are told that they have coaxed Rebecca and Hope up there to be their wives and Hank and Pete would need to put the effort in to making them fall in love. With Hope and Pete there is no problem. But there is a rollercoaster ride between Hank and Rebecca. But every rollercoaster ride has its ups and downs but usually has excitement in the end and so is the love between Rebecca and Hank. It is a story that you definitely will enjoy and remember.
Such a sweet series – I adore Jo Grafford’s books! They are a must buy for me!
Rebecca and her friend Hope are on their way to Pelican Rapids to become a teacher. In the train they meet Hank and his friend Pete and it was not a pleasant experience. But the matchmaker knows best, so she thinks, but how can they ever get married and be happy?
Entertaining story about two people who detest each other first but they are looking farther and discover the positive in each other.
A story of friendship and love.
Rebecca Copeland lost it all during the Civil War. Home, family and way of life. Life was a totally new beginning with just herself and her best friend Hope Thompson. They are traveling from the war torn south to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to join their friend Lottie and start their lives fresh.
Along the way on the train they meet Hank Abernathy and his friend Pete Bishop.
It turns out Hank and Pete were working with a local matchmaker, and she had chosen brides for them. Rebecca and Hope were traveling to Pelican Rapids, as Rebecca was taking on the job of Schoolteacher and Hope was not letting her go alone.
Rebecca and Hank did NOT get along in the least. They were like oil and water!
It turns out Rebecca’s friend Lottie had other ideas besides the teaching position for Rebecca and Hope. What will they do when they find out?
Jo Grafford’s books are fast becoming some of my favorite reads. Her characters are written with joy and love. They have depth and magnetism. Her stories capture you and pull you right in. You won’t be disappointed in this book.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
This is a beautiful and heartwarming story of friendships, hardships, trials, heartaches, loss, sadness and the overcoming of it all to find love. This is Hank and Rebecca’s story and while their initial meeting and early relationship was fraught with many obstacles romance eventually wins out and a HEA ensues. There are some surprising elements to the story which are unusual for the time period it took place in but it really adds to the story. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it; it is a real page turner
Such a sweet book about the power of friendship, the power of God in overcoming obstacles if you have faith and definitely the power of love. In post-Civil War, the beautiful story touches your heart on many levels. I love the way that both the hero and heroine have very close friendships with African Americans – almost unheard of in those days! They love them, they stand up for them and treat them equally which wasn’t normal at that time. Such a lovely example to those around them. Rebecca and Hank have a rocky courtship but in the end, it’s worth it. What a lovely couple they make! And their friends, Hope and Peter do too! A truly wonderful story!
Definitely enjoyable! Rebecca’s Dream is super romantic. A must read. I most love the part when they were at the town charity event and the epilogue is a guaranteed happily ever after!
