Richard Hill, the Earl of Windermere, might desperately require a wife and heir, but thoughts of duty fly from his mind when he rescues Esme, Lady Heathcote, from the embarrassment of a failed affair. They usually never agree about anything. He’s never even kissed the vexing widow. But when the opportunity arises to whisk her away for a no-strings-attached rendezvous, Richard can’t imagine a … can’t imagine a better way to spend a moonlit evening.
Esme has never lacked for admirers, but having Lord Windermere’s company goes a long way to ease the pain of losing her suddenly betrothed lover. And when Windermere suggests an affair, Esme is intrigued by the blazing-hot connection even while knowing their relationship has no future beyond his house party.
But as with any temptation, it’s a bargain they’ll soon regret.
A hot regency romance novel.

If you know anything about Regency romances, you know that house parties lasted a week or more and were filled with romantic liaisons. Esme , a widow, is spending a week at Windermere but is shocked when her lover announces his engagement to another, younger woman. In revenge, she takes Richard, Lord Windermere, as a lover. Convinced that she is barren, Esme tells Richard that their casual romance will have no consequences, and that later she’ll write out a list of women he should court so he could marry and father an heir. This delightful story has all the expected twists and turns, but ends with happily ever after.
The first chapter had me hooked in this relatively short story – ~140pgs. I had just stopped reading another book because I could care less about the characters, when I started reading this one and wanted to know more. Definitely rouges abound, and the ladies must step and choose carefully.
Nice story of Lady Esme and a Lord who were always at odds with each other but he rescues her from an embarrassing situation and they learn to know each other and fall in love.. Very romantic. Thanks
Really enjoyed characters
slow moving –not realistic
Enjoyable read
This was a very in depth look at the early 19th century and what could have happened to people of title. I loved the characters as well as how the story unfolded.
The characters are compelling and the plot is sufficiently complicated so it isn’t just another regency romance. The characters seem to enjoy a lot more freedoms than I think were allowed at the time, but it’s woven into a good love story. I will look for more from this author.
If you want to read sex every 4-5 pages, this is your book. If you want content, skip it.
Another love hate relationship that becomes happily ever after at the end.
You would think it would be steamy but it was tame, which is fine with me. A 10 day house party with widows and all looking for lovers The surprise is several marry. I enjoyed the talk between Richard and Esme. Their arguments turn to attraction. Wonderful ending. I look forward to more.
Steamy!!
Language is quite rough – just my opinion – otherwise interesting and action packed.
Too sexually graphic for me
I chuckled many times through this book. Great writer. I enjoyed that these characters were not worried about propriety, chaperones, social standing, etc. I’ve read many books where men have a paramour. This was great to have a view from the other side!
I love the characters and the flow of the novel. I did enjoy the book in all aspects. Thank you
A different sort of story. Not the virgins meets powerful man. Strong characters. Definitely worth reading.
It’s kind of nice to look at a REAL, Woman-in-Charge, volcano in bed book. And all of a sudden, it becomes a real romance — a really hot, steamy, happily-ever-after romance. And that’s the best kind to have.
Nice read
Delightful hot story!
