Piper is feeling a bit overwhelmed. With Seiya and Lyre missing, Ash recovering from near fatal injuries, and the Gaians picking fights with daemons all over the city, a girl can’t help but think she might be in over her head. And this time, she’s on her own.
Before she even has a chance to investigate the Gaians’ new stockpile of mysterious, high-tech weaponry, an old enemy ambushes her: … her: Samael’s henchman Raum. He wants Ash’s help and won’t take “get lost” for an answer. She doesn’t know if she can trust Raum, but even more than that, she can’t trust herself with Ash. Sooner or later he’ll catch up to her, and she fears she won’t be able to walk away from him a second time.
Despite her feelings, it will take their combined strength to face a frightening discovery about the Gaians. She and Ash begin to realize that the daemon war is coming to Earth, and they might be the only ones who can stop it—if it’s not already too late.

Good god, I’m still kinda hyperventilating.. I need the next now!!
Here’s some quotes
“Lilith,” Piper said cautiously.
“That’s it,” Randy whispered loudly. “Piper officially knows every daemon in the city. What the actual hell?”
“Just because you’re stronger than me doesn’t mean you can manhandle me!”
“I wouldn’t have to if you’d stop being ridiculous.”
“Life is short, there and then gone. Don’t waste it waiting for a solution that might not even exist.”
Annette Marie is the proverbial pot of gold: an author who consistently delivers high quality well written, well edited, grammatically correct, original, entertaining stories. She invites you into her worlds and you never want to leave.
Every time I finish one of her books, my first thought is to read it again, to savor the characters, their development, and their relationships. The relationships developed in her books, both friendships and romantic, develop gradually, revealing layers and connections that strengthen over time. She creates people, not tropes.
Her plots are strong, complex, and keep you riveted. The worlds she creates are internally consistent and vividly imagined.
I realize this is a generic sort of review, but I plan to leave it for all her books. From the Red Winter series (mythic Japan); to the Steel & Stones series, including Piper and Ash, and the Lyre and Clio books; and the Guild Codex series, now including the Robin Piper demon-training: I have yet to find anything less than pure enjoyment, and great respect for her talent.
WOW!!! I was pulled in from the beginning! Fabulous fantasy world, I absolutely love this series of books, the action starts straight away, and the characters are well defined early on and blossom throughout the series, you can feel the tension building between the main characters and each book always leaves you wanting more. The sub plots plus twists and turns keep you surprised and intrigued. Be warned though once you start reading this series you won’t be able to put the books down so be prepared for some binge reading.
I’m so glad the first book of the Guild Codex popped up on my Kindle recommendations. That lead me to Annette Marie’s ‘Red Winter’ series which is now one of my all time favorites (major book hangover after that one) and next lead me to this Steel and Stone series which I’m enjoying also. It gets a bit gruesome in places, I’m a wuss and skim over some of those pages, but this series is so captivating and well written that I keep reading. In this book Piper is dealing with her newly activated magics and her feelings for Ash all along with getting dragged more deeply into the dangerous demon politics and plots concerning earth. This one is an exciting page turner!
OMG, I need more! This series is blowing my mind! I just finished this book and I am already having withdrawals. I NEED this series. I NEED more. This series is so addicting! So many feels!
What I liked
The progression of this series is fantastic! It’s been a while since I’ve read a series with such incredible story telling. The details from each book are woven so beautifully to create a story so complex and energizing. I am in such awe of the writing. Annette Marie is such a masterful storyteller. I am a fan for life!
This book made me have so many emotions! I was happy, devastated, anxious…just all over the emotional spectrum.
The characters in this series have grown so much. It has been a while since I have read a series with a group of characters that have overtaken my heart. I love the characters in this series so much. I feel so close to them because Annette Marie writes them so vividly. The way that each character evolves and how the relationships grow is magical.
This series sucks you in. You feel so connected to this world and all of the characters. There is suspense that makes you lose your mind with wanting to know what happens next. I love the pacing in the book and in the series.
What I didn’t like
Once in a while a book or series comes along that is truly flawless, and this is one of those books/series. There are no plot holes, no filler, no horribly annoying characters to hate. Everything in this book and in this series is necessary and tells an epic story. There is nothing to dislike.
Would I Recommend It
OMG, YES!! This series just gets better and better! This book with blow you away and make you crave an ending. I feel like an addict with this series, craving another hit. I finished this series a week ago, and it is still ALL I can think about. Get this series NOW and then feel free to drop me your thanks. Hehe.

Review:
Finally! Finally, some progress in Piper and Ash’s relationship. I’m so excited and happy about this.
I can tell this series is building up for a big finally in the next one. This book is my favorite in the series so far. I really like how Piper is becoming. She’s growing up and feeling more confidant in herself and her abilities.
What is this book about
This book starts off where the last one ended. Piper left Ash in the overworld to heal. She went back to earth and found her father. She learned the city is in ruin, the consulates are no more. There have been attacks left and right and if that isn’t enough Lyre and Seiya (Ash’s sister) are missing.
Piper is doing whatever she can to find them but she needs help. She can’t do it alone. Ash is her only hope and he isn’t to pleased with her. Can they find Lyre and Seiya? Will they be able to defeat Samuel (head of the hades family, I finally remembered his name) or will their world be lost.
Not only that, Mysis (prince of the griffins in the overworld) isn’t that pleased with Piper either. She keeps losing what Mysis feels is his, oh and she tried to kill him. Yeah she’s very popular at the moment.
What did I like about this book:
I really liked this book. My favorite so far. I feel like were finally getting somewhere. There is so much going on in this one.
I liked the development in Piper and Ash’s relationship. I was very happy about that one.
I liked seeing more about both the overworld and the underworld in this book. Everything seems to be getting together.
