This is book two of the Chronicles of The Supernatural continues after the Emerald Tablet was return to its original location, from where it had been stolen, finally closing the entry point for the dangerous demonic scavengers from Hell, but not stopping the ones that had already come through, from continuing to swarm and corner the four corners of the world. They possess people of any age and culture, attracted to those with kindred energies for rage and violence, hate and self-loathing, and then using them as puppets and infecting ever more people. The seven teens chosen to protect the world, Jade, Shaun, Kevin, Casey, Tim, Rachel and their leader Sophia, are sequestered in a safe, yet supernaturally hidden location. They have gifts that they are learning to use and each has a piece of the puzzle that can bring an end to the chaos and suffering in the world. They had undergone a lot of different ordeals over a number of months and a whiteout had hidden them from the world beyond for over a month. The Emerald Tablet may have been returned, the gateway closed, and the viral infection cleansed, but nobody is the same after what happened. Shaun has a pouch with nine gemstones, connected to the tablet and Jade has closely drawn them all.
The time has come for the seven to separate and carry out different tasks. Rachel wants to find her brother and mother. This story concentrates on Jade’s efforts to find her father, accompanied by her mother and Kevin, who can create portals to anywhere, so long as one of them knows the location well and can show it to him. She hasn’t been sleeping well, believing herself to be the weakest link of the seven. She has nightmarish vision of her father possessed by demons and stuck in the Realm of Lost Souls. Jade is a descendant of Great Turtle, a well-known and loved figure in tribal history, as a healer and this opens a lot of doors to others they meet. A vision of Chief Thundercloud urges her to go to the river of Great Turtle’s ancestors, the Wateree people. Her abilities are manifesting, but she doesn’t really understand how everything it seems she is doing, is actually happening. Her mother is a great help in getting her to calm down and Kevin being at her side, gives her a white glow from inside of her.
The nightmarish visions she has been having, lead her to a nasty Shaman who tries to suck out her soul, to gain her powers as her mother had warned might happen, as it seems she is like her great grandmother Great Turtle ad is both a healer and a seer, and a target for other Shamans. She is hearing and seeing things that neither her mother nor Kevin can see or hear. She now seems to be able to affect time and even the weather. She needs to believe in the memories of her ancestors and the teachings they are imparting to her. Her only problem is ensuring she doesn’t give in to the soul sucking demon shape shifters and the darkness that wants to overcome her, leaving just a hollow emptiness behind. She can hear her father’s voice, at times calling her, at other times warning her away from trying to get him. She needs to trust her spirit animal, Raven Wings, which some she has met already know the name of. Kevin can also feel the deep emotions of others and the effect he has of grounding Jade back into reality, could be what helps her to defeat the desolation that is trying to stop her moving forward. She must find her teacher and learn how to banish the spiritual demons to free everyone chained to this dimension. They must look to the future and no longer to the past. A great continuation of the Emerald Tablet saga and the dangers that managed to escape the void and which the group of teens, Jade in particular, have the powers to defeat. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
