Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia, has its dark side-and crime buffs. One of whom is librarian Aurora “Roe” Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It’s a harmless pastime-until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss. And as other brutal “copycat” … killings follow, Roe will have to uncover the person behind the terrifying game, one that casts all the members of Real Murders, herself included, as prime suspects-or potential victims.

In my next life, i want to be Aurora Teagarden. She works in a library, she lives in a nice townhouse provided by her mother, dates a bit, and is a member of the murder club!
As she becomes involved in real life murders, she never seems to be truly frightened so I’ll come back as her….long, long hair, glasses, perfect clothes, job and surrounded by friends. Well, except for one cop, Jack Burns, he just hates her. And her co-worker, Lillian, doesn’t like Aurora …but, “Roe” tolerated these two people and moves on to sink her teeth into crimes.
The murder is very well done and keeps you guessing as evidence is left in different suspects cars and homes. Misdirection is used to full benefit. Be prepared to be surprised at who and why the murders are committed. Once you finish this book, you’ll be looking for her next one. Read them in order, if you can, and watch Roe and her friends take on more cases between work and dating and see how Roe changes over time.
Charlaine Harris is a great read with all of her books. Real Murders is a great read to cozy up with. Plus it’s only the start of a series!
I have fallen in love with this author and her character Aurora Teagarden. I’ve always loved mysteries and this just grabs you from page one and carries you through the book.
Just when you think you know how did it, there is a twist and turn.
Easy read, makes you laugh and has you wanting to read the rest of the series!!
I love Roe, Sally and Roe’s mom Aida. Mysteries are good. Hard to believe this is the same writer of the True Blood and Midnight Texas series. I enjoyed the True Blood books and loved the Midnight Texasa books.
I have read a few different series from Charlaine Harris so figured I should try this out. This was a fun mystery to watch being solved and see all the different twists that had me guessing who it could be. On top of that there were some really interesting side characters that left me wanting to know more about them. I will definitely continue on with this series and see what it brings.
Enjoyed the book, and Charlaine does a good job of weaving the mystery. Aurora is a good character, even if she is not a typical cozy mystery investigator. She doesn’t think she can solve the crime on her own, or even assist the police in their efforts (beyond the times she’s required to do so). She doesn’t butt into the investigation or go off to do her own sleuthing except for one time. She’s just a person caught in the investigation, targeted by the murderer for some reason, and she’s trying to get through it. I like how Aurora is handled as it “feels” more real. A good cozy mystery.
Meh.
The mystery itself was okay, but overall this book was a bit bland and some parts were annoyingly preachy. And seriously, her name isn’t that odd that “everyone” would have to stifle laughter when they heard it for the first time.
Real Murder is the clever and suspenseful first entry in the Aurora Teagarden murder mystery series. This book is a fine piece of writing. She did such a good job with character development and clever 1st-person narration, that at one point, I was literally laughing outloud. I can’t remember when I have done that. I am glad this is a series. Charlene Harris is quite a talented writer.
Librarian Aurora “Roe” Teagarden is an active member of the Real Murders Club in her small town of Lawrenceton, Georgia. Roe has prepared for the nights meeting and can’t wait to share with the group but the meeting goes awry when a body is discovered of one of the members. Her death is eerily similar to another infamous murder. With suspects a plenty, Roe finds herself tying to solve the case but will it be too late?
Fun read. I thought this was a good story, Roe was not what I was expecting though. She was a bit more plain then I expected. I thought the Murder Club was realistic especially with all the true crime shows out there. Would check out the next book.
Fun heroine and fun mystery.
Love Charlaine Harris!
This is the first Aurora Teagarden mystery. I have watched the series on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. I’m a mystery writer and I wanted to familiarize myself with Charlene Harris’ work.
If you want a light, funny, sometimes scary book that keeps you guessing who the killer is to the very end, you will enjoy this book.
Love all of her series. This is the start of a great set. Can’t wait for more of her books.
