I love a good rock star romance, but who doesn’t, right?
Get ready for Flynn, a well-written contemporary romance about young love and heartache. This is the first installment in a great series, the kind of story that stays with you way past the last page because you never want it to end.
Kudos! I can’t wait to start reading book 2.
This book is emotional, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
Valerie had a crush on her brothers college roommate ever since he brought him home for Thanksgiving. There is an unwritten rule in the house of 3 brothers, No one messes with their sister. Flynn was smitten with this gorgeous 15 year old. he wanted her but out of respect for his friend and because of her age, he didnt act on his desires.
There was an instant connection between the two. Flynn left college to become s rock star.
Her mom and dad had to leave town when tragedy devastated the family, leaving Valerie with her aunt. Flynn came to help her thru her grief. He was the big rock star that took time out of his life for her many times. I loved the slow burn, romance between the two. It started as forbidden lust to a love, romance. Valerie experienced many heartbreaks, and Flynn was always there for her to help pick up the pieces. this is an emotional rollercoaster that had me sobbing, a story with many tears .Great character development as we see how the characters grew into maturity.
Anne Marie Damman narration was superb. Every emotion, every voice , every character was perfection! She flawlessly transitioned from one character to another. Thank you for the great listen!

This book has been sitting on my TBR and my paperback shelf for all too long. Due limited reading time, I’m always reluctant to start a trilogy, but now that I have started this one, it’s full speed ahead.
The new adult trope is one I sometimes feel like I’ve grown out of, but this book proved me wrong because it is a damn good story and beautifully written. KL Shandwick’s story is full of family, heartache and raw emotion. I laughed, I sighed, and I outright cried because of this book.
Valerie is an almost sixteen-year-old girl when this book starts. Betrayed by her longtime boyfriend and best friend, she returns after spending time with her recently widowed aunt. Valerie has a very close family and three older brothers who she adores, particularly Martin who is in college. He returns home for Thanksgiving with a college friend in tow, Flynn Docherty. The attraction between them is instantaneous and palpable—though forbidden—due to their age difference. While Flynn has a reputation as a ladies’ man, he is respectful of Valerie’s age despite his lust.
When tragedy befalls the family, it is Flynn, now an up and coming rock star, who helps Valerie through the aftermath. Having lived through his own tragedy and loss allows him to help her come to terms with hers, but again he does the right thing, despite his longing for Valerie.
Life goes on, but two years later she calls on Flynn to help her out and all bets are off. At eighteen, she realizes that love at first sight can and does exist, a fact Flynn already knew. She is finally ready for Flynn. Valerie’s life experiences forced her to mature and grow up and Ms. Shandwick does an excellent job showcasing her growth and emotions.
Flynn is a swoon worthy leading man. He always knew in his heart Valerie was the one for him, but despite his deep feelings for her, he felt he wasn’t good enough for her. Though he’s a rock star he’s respectful of her family, as well as being passionate, loving, protective, and sexy as hell. Their journey is full of pitfalls and people trying to stand in their way. I can hardly wait to start the next book. I have loved each book I have read by KL Shandwick. Her books are emotional and passion-filled and her characters are so well developed they pull the reader/listener into her well-crafted world.
I listened to this book and if you’ve delayed reading this series I heartily encourage you to listen to the trilogy. Ann Damman does an excellent job narrating this emotion-filled story. She has a masterful command of various voices so the listener knows exactly who is talking. She definitely has a handle on the emotions of the characters and conveys them much to the listener’s delight.
An amazing book – a real tearjerker – a must read…. Now for books 2 & 3 in the series.
Ready for Flynn is a rockstar romance with a difference and it’s a fabulous read. It will tug at your heartstrings as you read through this emotional journey, I would advise you have tissues at the ready.
Valerie Darsin is only 15 years old when her brother brings home his friend Flynn to spend thanksgiving with their family as soon as Valerie and Flynn meet there’s an instant attraction but with a five year age gap there is no chance that anything can happen between them and when Flynn leaves he takes Valerie ‘s heart with him but she learns to move on. That is until tragedy strikes her family and Flynn walks back into her life.
KL Shandwick has blown it out of the water with this book and I’m so glad there is more to come from Valerie and Flynn
Oh my gosh this book was awesome!! My poor heart broke for everything that Valerie went through. Valerie has had a sheltered life, and wants to have freedom from her over protective family. Valerie meets Flynn when she’s 15 and he comes home with her brother for Thanksgiving. There’s an instant attraction between them. Although Flynn is attracted to Valerie he knows he’s older and no good for her so he leaves her behind. When tragedy strikes, Flynn reenters Valerie’s life and is there for her when she needs him the most. I absolutely adored Flynn! I loved everything about Valerie and Flynn’s story and couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend.
Wheww this novel is emotion!!l. There was alot of character and world building in this story, at times I did feel some of this could have been left out as it wasn’t essential to the story, however I felt that by the end of the book I knew the characters well and so I felt their highs and theirs lows with them. I did have to remind myself that Valerie, the main female character, is actually quite young in this novel as I felt there were alot of adult themes for a young woman of 15 to 18 years of age. I liked that the book ends on a cliff hanger as I am now eager to read the next one. I really enjoyed the narration of this book as I felt the narrator really brought the personalities of the characters to life which I feel is important for such an emotionally hard hitting story.
To start Valarie really annoyed me, her immaturity made me want to slap her at times. There are no nicer ways to describe her but she annoyed me all the way through this book.
I really liked that we saw the dark side of the entertainment industry in this book, the author did a really good job at showing that I really enjoyed the plot.
I also loved reading the banter between Valarie and Flynn banter is one of my favourite things to read in a story without a doubt.
I don’t think I was ready
What an emotional rollercoaster of a journey.
About the book
When Valerie’s brother Martin brings home his best friend Flynn from college during a school break there’s an instant attraction between the two of them.
Flynn showed his maturity throughout this story and although Valerie was only fifteen when he first laid eyes on her he held himself back. Flynn’s feelings for Valerie were heartwarming, it’s like he knew in his heart she was the one and waited for the right time when she would be ready, it was her call, the ball was in her court, but would she ever really be ready for Flynn? .
When tragedy strikes in the family Flynn who is then a rising rockstar tries to be there for Val.
I found this part of the story hard so maybe it’s a trigger warning for anyone currently grieving, Valeries inner thoughts as she struggled with grief hit home.
Years later and Flynn comes to her rescue again only this time Valerie is eighteen and the two reconnect in a different way.
I had to remind myself that although Valerie was now a young businesswoman and had proved herself to be strong-willed she was also a young insecure girl at heart. A young woman learning to trust and she hadn’t had enough life experiences, so although Flynn had told her numerous times she was his girl and that he loved her she still had doubts which were annoying at times because Flynn’s sincerity was evident.
Ready for Flynn is an emotional read and the beginning of what I expect will be a whirlwind of a series.
So I’m buckling up and looking forward to more as Flynn and Val take on the music business by the balls in the next book in this trilogy.
Told in first person pov.
Ready for Flynn: Part 1: The Ready for Flynn Series by K.L. Shandwick is a rock star romance. The romance in this book was breathtaking.
Valerie Darsin was loved and admired by her brothers and boyfriend when she was 15 years old. Her small-town life was peaceful and safe until she was forced to leave due to a sudden betrayal. When Valerie returned home, she found comfort in Flynn Docherty, a man who had left her with strange feelings when he vanished from her life. Valerie learned to move on before Flynn returned after a life-changing event, but was she ready? Has she ever been prepared for Flynn’s arrival?
I loved every chapter. I can’t wait to read the other parts.
This was an emotional book, full of the realities of life and the unfamiliarities of growing up. Ready for Flynn tells the story of Valerie Darsin, your typical teen with a large and loving family who lived in a simplistic and small town. Her picturesque life is suddenly thrown upside down in a series of events, starting with the introduction of a guy named Flynn. The illusive Flynn and small-town Valerie have obvious chemistry and attraction, throughout the emotional rollercoaster that is this story. It’ll leave you wondering if Valerie really is Ready for Flynn.
Yes this book has it all. Tears, wails, laughs and love. The epic journey of life and working toward what you want and even who you want. Loved this story and so ready for book 2
Well, what can I say I was more than surprised with how much I enjoyed this story, I went in blind and glad I did. Valery and Flynn’s story started in a very unconventional way, yet the author made it work. I like how much thought was behind the whole plot and the characters. I am loving them all and definitely want to know what is coming up next. Small town, a broken-hearted girl, a rockstar, and time that will prove they deserve each other.
I love this story. Best KL Shandwick book to date. I love the forbidden romance of Flynn and Valerie. I can’t wait for part two to hear more of the story between them.
This was the first book that I’ve read by KL Shandwick, so I had no idea what to expect. However, after reading this book it certainly won’t be the last.
Valerie and Flynn have certainly had a rough couple of years. The have several hurdles they nerd to jump before they can move forward with their relationship. They have a lot to prove, but the love they’ve shared for one another from the beginning is strong and powerful.
This boom ends leaving you wanting more, so I have already downloaded book 2 to read.
This story contains everything I love in a great read, a loving family. A friend of a brother who is just a bit damaged, and is older than the sister. Attraction, lust and longing. Heartache, loss and angst. I cried right along with Valerie, I knew exactly how she felt through the rough patch. This story has a whole mix of emotions and events, I wished I wasn’t starting a new job as I wanted to carry on reading till I finished the book, but when I did finish I felt lost. I went straight to buy the second book to read, it is that good. Flynn is a bit of a loveable rogue character, though there are a few surprises and all is not as it seems. You do need to prepare for the fact this isn’t a stand alone story, it continues in the second book. I feel it is worth reading though, it has a bit of everything including the rock group. I definitely had a book hangover after I finished it.
I knew before I started listening to this that is was probably going to be a tear jerker……understatement!! This book was an incredible rollercoaster of emotion. Did I need tissues? Absolutely, a whole ton of them. There were times of utter heart-break where I had tears streaming down my face, but it was equally balanced with humour, family banter, drama and an off the charts chemistry between two people who met just a little bit too soon before they were able to really act on it.
I didn’t know very much about the story (other than the blurb) before I started and I’m glad, so I don’t want to give anything away here. I will say that the story built from the start. Valerie is very young for a lot of the book – 15/16. Her character really grows and develops throughout even though she only reaches 18 by the end. She has moments of immaturity in her actions and reactions, but they were totally in context. She acted her age and I’m pleased the author didn’t try to make her too mature. She felt real and I loved that, even if I didn’t always like what she did and said! There was so much depth to Flynn, I loved him more and more as the book went along. He really tried to do the right thing, even though it hurt. With all he went through, he was a beautiful man.
I listened to the audio version and loved it, I couldn’t wait to get in my car each day to drive to work so I could listen more. The narrator was excellent and had a lovely expressive voice (all from Valerie’s POV)
This was a fantastic start to the series. It kind of ends on a cliff hanger, but not a huge one but I’m going straight on to part 2. Flynn and Valerie are intriguing, strong, sexy and have such a strong bond. I can’t wait to find out what happens in their lives next. Highly recommended!
Oh wow this book was packed with all the feels in the first half. My heart ached for Valerie. What she had to go through at such a young age, dealing with that and her feelings for Flynn. I just wanted to huge her. As the story went on and she grew older and lives her life, dealt with Flynn…… was a journey that I’m glad I took. There were heart pounding moments, WTF moments and moments I swooned. There were also times I was a little annoyed with the characters and the pace of the story but in the end it was a good story. I plan to read the others when I can find time to. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Ready For Flynn: Part 1 (Ready For Flynn Series, Book 1) is not your middle-of-the-road Contemporary Rockstar Romance.
I love the arrangement and how it spans across many years. The title is quite fitting and reflects the narrative perfectly. The beginning will leave you reeling with intense moments. At, a certain point I was weeping and it left me dazed listening to the rest of this audiobook. I struggled with falling in love with Valerie and Flynn, but I did love Valerie Darsin’s family. The writing style is intriguing. The narrative itself is compelling and character’s are resilient. It ends with you having questions to where this is going next.
Narator Anne Marie Damman brought all the right vibes and gave the characters their own voice.
