A lovable con woman and a disgraced detective team up to find a redneck reality TV star in this raucous and razor-sharp new novel from Carl Hiaasen, the bestselling author of Bad Monkey. Merry Mansfield, the eponymous Razor Girl, specializes in kidnapping for the mob. Her preferred method is rear-ending her targets and asking them for a ride. Her latest mark is Martin Trebeaux, owner of a private … Trebeaux, owner of a private beach renourishment company who has delivered substandard sand to a mob hotel. But there’s just one problem: Razor Girl hits the wrong guy. Instead, she ends up with Lane Coolman, talent manager for Buck Nance, the star of a reality TV show about a family of Cajun rooster farmers. Buck Nance, left to perform standup at a Key West bar without his handler, makes enough off-color jokes to incite a brawl, then flees for his life and vanishes.
Now a routine promotional appearance has become a missing persons case. And Andrew Yancy, disgraced detective-turned-health inspector, is on the job. That the Razor Girl may be the key to Yancy’s future will be as surprising to him as anything else he encounters along the way—including the giant Gambian pouched rats that are haunting his restaurant inspections.

As a Hiaasen fan for several years, I was disappointed this was not up to what I have come to expect from him. Yes it did have some pretty good dark humor here and there. Yes, some of the characters were interesting. Yes, the social commentary was somewhat biting and fair. Yes, the writing was pretty good and easy to read. However, there seemed to be a lot of superfluous characters who did very little to advance the plot. It just didn’t provide the level of escape and pleasurable reading I anticipated when I spotted a book from Hiaasen I had not read. By the way, I have really loved all his others, including his YA novels and the ones co-written with Montalbano.
What can I say, its another hilarious Carl Hiassen story. Great read.
It was one of the best reads I have read in quite some time. He is without doubt one of the best writers who continually makes you want to continue to read. Congratulations
Hiaasen never fails to deliver laugh out loud stories that are , unfortunately, very relatable to today’s culture. I have probably read and enjoyed every book he has written, and will continue to do so. Razor Girl was a great read. I thought maybe a little predictable in the first few chapters, but no. Lots of twist and turns here, and all of them hilarious.
Laugh-out-loud hilarious
Always good
Carl Hiassen I have loved for years….if you have lived anywhere in the tropics or visited Southern Florida, folks reading his books can definitely relate….a true wordsmith, and always hilarious, both in plot AND in characters..for fun and a relaxing read, Razor Girl is a laugh out loud book….
Great author! I love all his books and characters.
Another great read
Carl Hiaasen at his rip-roaring best.
Not Hiassen’s best but still better than what most writers turn out. Fun from start to finish.
I try to read everything that Hiassen writes and am never disappointed. Love his new character, Andrew Yancy and the usual cast of weirdos and misfits. If you like this kind of off beat humor – and his usual commentary about FL’s culture – you will love this book.
Fun and hilarious
Vintage Hiaasen!! This is a really fun read. The characters are outlandish but lovable at the same time. As with all Hiaasen books, the plot is CRAZY but highly entertaining. If you’re not a prude and love ribald humor, this book is for you.
You have to love Hiassen. His stories are witty and entertaining and his characters are quirky and multi-dimensional. Like Elmore Leonard, who also wrote books similar in sub-genre, Hiassen writes books that you can’t put down.
This is the first book of his that I haven’t finished in one sitting. It just didn’t live up to the others and I’m not totally sure why. It was really convoluted, as are most of his books, but this time it was kind of distracting.
