One mission was all it took.
My life as a mercenary used to be simple. Hang around at the Blind Eye, get hired, get paid, get home and play with my dog.
Until one mission turned my life upside down.
Now I’m neck-deep in action: Hunting evil spirits and mysterious killers while working with—and against—the city’s most powerful supernaturals.
My unexpected vampire ally is making my life even … unexpected vampire ally is making my life even more interesting. Tension is building, and not only because the situation in Darkhaven is spiraling out of control.
But will I drown, crushed between the warring powers—or will I unleash that talents that slumber within me?

Our heroine is a supernatural bodyguard, or perhaps a bodyguard to the supernatural? Either way, her latest job will give her quite the challenge and could be her last if she is not on her game. Perhaps she should have watched TV instead.
This is the start of an urban fantasy story with all the usual creatures. The story is well written and does a nice job of introducing the characters and the setting without sounding like a lecture. I really liked both the heroine and the setting and look forward to learning more about both. The plot was also pretty good for a series intro, getting my attention early on and keeping it until the end. Overall, I found this to be a fun read and look forward to more in the future.
Highly recommended

I enjoyed the groundwork the author began to lay for this new paranormal world. There’s a lot of potential here with several factions to play with: vampires, witches, elementalists, rogues, weres, & possibly more to come. The male & female leads are likeable & have good chemistry that it will be fun to watch develop.
ONE HIGH OCTANE LANDSLIDE!!!
Delightful! Ben brought out the heavy artillery, laying out the big guns, locked and loaded, riding the flames of an inferno and kicking the gates wide open, wrapping this baby up sleek shiny and tight. Bearing the burden and towing the line, delivering one hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, page flipping, block busting dynamo, keeping you riveted on a razors edge, blasting this little fella to life flawlessly. A churning vortex chocked-full of quirky mishaps and baffling circumstances, expose the intimidating trials and challenging tribulations, noting the shocking twists and wicked turns drawing our characters closer than they could have ever envisioned. Lines blur and boundaries crossed, limitations are stretched and bent, booting this bad boy forward, kicking it into overdrive, slamming it into a tailspin with an intoxicating culmination. Anarchy runs rampant and havoc is rife, rousting the drama, intrigue, spiraling suspense and intense situations, along with a double dose of danger while dodging calamity, you have one mind-blowing experience. The attraction and chemistry sizzles, drawing you deeper until you feel the electrifying hum running rampant through your veins. The characters are realistic, intriguing and authentic with depth and qualities that add just enough flaws for diversity. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Ben, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Engaging characters, nice world building n this YA entry into urban fantasy will appeal to all ages. A young woman coming-of-age story in a difficult time, Mr. Blackwell hits all the high notes. Minor proofreading errors do detract from the overall language of the book however.

I am an Honest ARC reviewer ,And I was sorely disappointed that there was no real background on …well anything. Explain where Octavian came about in their relationship, why when faced with a challenge the heroine freezes , and yet still is applauded, or how every foe is so easy for her to defeat?..sorry just not feeling the flow.
Ravens Ascent is an amazing read. Raven is a rogue magic user. She has no faction and no family. She takes on mercenary and bodyguard jobs to get by. She is asked by a witch to become a bodyguard. This will change her life. She will finally become part of something.
This is a great and exciting read. I can not wait to read more of the story.

Raven is a mercenary whose only goal is to build her rainy day funds. She’s the kind who is so professional she won’t ask too much questions – yep, even if her employer’s name – as long as you pay her. Everyone says she does great at her job… even when she doesn’t.
She was hired by a group of witches as a bodyguard but when an attack happens, she freezes. She then teams up with hot vampire guy she knows from somewhere and they make lots of awkward small talk transitioning to weird ranting about social status to even weirder friendly flirting.
Despite being a book about magic users, the system of magic is not explained. What else was not explained? Well, a loooot considering this is the first book of in its series. If the objective is to behold up suspense or mystery, well, my curiosity was not teased at all.
Their adversaries are easily put down and of course, Raven is praised for her quick action. Too quick if you ask me.
Apart from that, descriptions are repetitive and cliche. The progression of events especially the action scenes were so
confusing that I had to reread a couple of times to understand who got whom.
