“I can give you everything,” he whispered, smiling through the lie. All I had to do was kneel…The Caledonian forces come armed, yet offer peace. Spouting claims that they can deliver a new era—one of luxury and ease—they think to seduce. They promise our countries will thrive together, that they will save us from ourselves in exchange for Tritan’s secrets, our expertise in the mystical arts of … Tritan’s secrets, our expertise in the mystical arts of wielding ki. Partner with warmongers unaccustomed to being refused, or fall beneath their boots.
These conquerors fool no one.
They seek to leash my people and claim our priestesses for their own sick uses.
But I will not kneel.
Especially not to him.
Captain Asher Rawlings.
Powerful… Elite… Relentless… He’s been tasked to hunt me down and dress me in chains—a mission he relishes, for with one taste of my lips, he hungers for my submission above all else…
In an instant, the deadly secret I’ve been keeping for years is exposed to his attention. He knows what I am, what I might be capable of, and he’s drawn to my fire… my ki…
With a kiss, he feeds me whispers of a coddled life kneeling at his precious feet, his offer nothing more than the life of a cherished pet.
But he won’t have me or my ki, for his betrayal has given me strength even he didn’t expect.
Only one thing is certain—he’ll either put me on my knees, or I’ll kill them all.

After stumbling upon Myra’s unfinished work in progress of this story years ago I was Instantly sucked in and left begging for more. And let me just say the wait was well worth it! She did not let her fans down with this masterpiece. I’ll be here anxiously awaiting the release of book two but I will be patient because I know it will not be a let down!
Myra has a way with words that will suck you into a book and transport you to another time. The only issue that I had with my transportation was I really didn’t understand where I was transported to and what the people were. now with that being said I still really enjoyed the book and I’m hoping that in the second book things will come together just a little bit more for me personally.
Mila has amazing powers that her Goliath shields from other people. she’s the protected daughter of a senator who wants a little Adventure in her life so she takes matters into her own hands and that starts a chain of events that she could not have predicted. Mila is a strong heroine who doesn’t give up even when she’s put in the tough situations and have to make even tougher choices. where she is extremely strong she’s not strong enough to resist the pull of Asher.
Commander Asher recognizes Mila what she really is and he wants her. Asher recognizing Mila’s powers in the market enforced the events that followed. he’s a strong as mila and maybe it’s just a little bit more cunning but at the same time he cannot resist the pull that draws them together.
Two lands with different ideas and beliefs come together in this story of action and love. The question is who will prevail??? Mila and the priestesses? or Asher and his army? or will they come together and heal both of the lands?!!
Mila is Trila-glís
I enjoyed this story and will be interested to see where it goes from here, but it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. I mean I DID have some issues with figuring out what was going on because it felt like I was dropped into the middle of a conversation that had been going on for some time, leaving me scrambling to catch up and figure out what was going on. There was a lot of unfamiliar terminology, but that tends to happen when you read the more sci-fi/fantasy type books. Somehow I had the impression this was going to be a romance novel, so I had to adjust my reader cap. LOL I thought this book did a great job with world building and the characters were interesting. I am looking forward to the next installment.
I’ve followed Myra from when The Last Tritan originally graced our eyes so many years ago. It was a long anticipated piece to be published. Readers were warned that it had become different, that it had grown… matured from version one to what we see here. Which is true. My memories of the story previously are but shadows of what the story has become.
I’m used to fast paced, complete novels instead of series that build the world slowly but in much greater depth. As such, it was initially hard for me to GET INTO the book. There is a lot of back story and development that happens in this book, which, now that I’m at the end of book 1… makes sense and feels like a good, necessary fit. But in the beginning I was frustrated cause I struggled to fall into the story.
That being said, the characters are, imo, fleshed out and the interactions between Mila and Asher leave me on the edge of my seat… like a slow seduction. The development of Mila from beginning to end of book 1 has been invigorating and I’m extremely interested to see how she develops in the following books. She isn’t your typical heroine. She is flawed and contradictory and to me, that makes her more relatable. I feel the war within herself as if I were experiencing it myself.
If I could change a thing, it would be to change book 1 to encompass a full story arc. It was cut at a cliff hanger (which I understand why given the company Myra keeps), but I would have preferred a full story in one book rather than breaking it up over 3(+) books. Though this practice is hardly new and is utilized by many authors (indie or otherwise).
TL;DR – 10/10 will read again. Take a chance on it. If you’re struggling to immerse yourself, stick it through cause it’ll be worth it in the end.
I have been a fan of Myra Danvers since I first read The Last Tritan. With that said, her first published work, Ravenous Innocence, is simply amazing. Its everything I hoped it would be and more. Danvers skillfully builds this intricate world that you are instantly transported into. The characters are developed really well. She provides so many details that really paint out the world for you.
The novel chronicles the life of Mila, a Priestess in hiding. She meets, Asher, a young, handsome soldier who she is mysteriously drawn to. And then everything about her world changes and Mila must deal with the fallout. This story has it all action, seduction, mystery and strategy. I was on the edge of my seat.
I finished the book after a few hours, a little sad to say goodbye to the characters. This is the first of a series. Yayyyyy!!! Be prepared the novel ends in a cliffhanger(why??). I will eagerly be awaiting the second installment.
The Last Tritan, Book 1. Once unleashed, can immeasurable power ever be contained?
Even now, I wonder. If I just hadn’t… Why did I? It was so easy. What harm could it possibly do? I’m just Mila Tannovic. Only one other knows who, what, I am. How could a mere sip, or two, or three, of ki hurt? But there I was. Alone, unknowing, unsuspecting. And then—there HE was. Asher appears out of nowhere. Forbidden, tempting, enticing, then—gone! But he KNOWS! And he STEALS! How? Just…how? Then, he’s back, and he’s WHAT? A Caledonian, a traitor! As his kind rains a firestorm of destruction down on my world, he comes for me…me alone! Why me? Why not the others? His beguiling power snakes toward me, whispering seductive promises. NO! Goddess help me, no! I WON’T! I have secrets no one knows. He may think he’s won. He has no idea what I hold—and just how far I’ll go to avenge and destroy!
Myra Danvers is a brand new author to me, and I honestly had no idea what to expect from this book. I’d heard whisperings throughout the author and reader community, but whispers are just that…whispers. I could NEVER have imagined how Ms. Danvers would capture my imagination and heart. Mila is stunning!. Her transformation from a shy, timid woman scuttling around the edges of life to a force of nature willing to sacrifice everything is breathtaking. From the second I met her, I was captivated. How could I not be? Extraordinary doesn’t begin to describe her. She’s loving, mercurial, endearing, incredulous, thoughtless, alluring, and, above all else, passionate beyond belief. And Asher? Gorgeous, seductive, oh, so very persuasive. He bewitches with a look, captivates with his touch, arouses with a kiss, and dazzles with his power. He’s the irresistible force, the ultimate man of mystery. He mesmerized me as much as Mila did. Who, or what, is he? (To find out, you’ll have to read the book!) The polarizing extremes of magnetism pull these two together as much as they push them apart. And while these two alone make this book unputdownable, Ms. Danvers goes that extra step beyond. The supporting characters are so well-developed, intertwined, and woven into the tapestry that is Ravenous Innocence, the story would be a shadow of what it is without them. I have only three more words to add. I…WANT…MORE!
A final note. This is an adult fantasy. It contains explicit language and some suggestive, but no overt, sexual themes. If you don’t enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. Check the book blurbs and reviews available on Goodreads, Amazon, and BookBub. Please use them before buying this or any book. A sincere recommendation doesn’t seem like enough for this book. I was enchanted and transported to another plane of existence. That’s no exaggeration. I’m positive you’ll love this book!
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
For those who enjoy the fantasy genre, this is a must read!
The story line is very complex but well thought out and highly engaging- Action, Suspense, Magic, lots of Mayhem and even a bit of Angst
This is not an easy read – This is an elaborate story line with complex characters – perfect for those who enjoy being transported to another realm when they read
The author has created an ornate and detailed universe that allows for so much potential and growth in future releases
My understanding is this is a new author all around – IDK – I do know this is a first in series so it has a lot of world building and character development in the beginning –
I enjoyed the universe that Danvers created for Ravenous Innocence – There is a lot of little details that I did not catch the first time that greatly impacts the hows and whys of the story line
The characters – being a first in series we are introduced to a lot of major players – some we get to know very intimately – others we are given just enough information to form an opinion about them but we know they are going to play a bigger role in future releases
Mila is our lead female she has spent her life living in a bubble of safety and at the beginning of the story I wanted to knock her juvenile entitled poor me arse into next Tuesday – I confess I am glad I gave her some time to grow- her character slowly develops as the story line progresses in a way I appreciate as a reader – it was not a sudden “oh look at me all adulting” -She still carries that naive bratty air about her but she is learning from her mistakes and with each painful lesson she is maturing emotionally
Asher – I want to know a lot more about him – we are given so few clues except he is strong with Ki and very very dangerous and he wants Mila for nefarious reasons (he is the sexy anti-hero) though he does promise she will want for nothing- Liar
I will be reading this book a second time (which I do not mind with series such as this) as I believe that it will flow even smoother and I will pick up a lot of smaller but important clues I missed the first time
Fantasy/Paranormal is my genre and Danvers is definitely going to be added to my shelves as a must read author
What I loved most about this book is that it was an original story. The desires and emotion that build touch you. You feel yourself washing away with the heroine in her emotion as her city falls. You feel the building desires she feels and her trying to rationalize them and keep them at bay. There is nothing that ties the world Ms. Danver’s build to our own reality. I got lost in the little world she built. I would recommend this to anyone. It’s a fantastic book, I can NOT wait till book two comes.
Myra Danvers has created a captivating world peopled with characters sure to win both your heart and mind. The story line is intriguing, pulling you along until you are sucked into a whirlpool of desire for more… A Great Read and I can’t wait for #2!!!!
This book was recommended to me by some of my favorite dark romance authors, so I was expecting a dark, twisted romance. That isn’t exactly what I got, but I can see it happening in the future. This is the beginning of what I’m guessing is going to be an incredible series. The characters are dark and twisted, there are a lot of unknowns still, and I was surprised by many of the events in the plot. I read a lot, so surprising me isn’t something all authors can do, and for a debut story to have my head continuously spinning is saying something. The writing is superb, the world building is absolutely breathtaking, and the flow of the story is fast, but it doesn’t feel rushed. The story unfolds as the characters live the events, making the reader feel like they are living it more than reading it. It also adds to the surprises and kept me from guessing what was going to happen next.
I’m torn about how I feel about Asher right now, but Mila is one of those determined, slightly broken, a**-kicking females that I love so much. She is just beginning to come into her own in this one, but I can see her taking over the world in the near future. I’m sure that’s not where the story is going, but she isn’t a pushover by any means. There are also some support characters who I’m curious to see how much of an impact they will have on the story.
The tale is more of an urban fantasy than a romance at this point, but I am excited to see where it goes from here. I’ll be looking for the next book, and counting down the days until it’s released.
I have never read anything like this before and its also my first from this author. a completely new world with priestesses that can harness ki. it took a while for me to understand the setting but once I saw the vision the author was trying to depict, it was SO captivating! traitorous urges, compelling, action, fantasy, heartfelt emotions, foreboding love that is covered in pain. oh the heartbreak as the ancient one she was named after
it ends in a cliffhanger and im dying to continue reading this story as of what happens next. this was a great read
Incredible debut novel by Myra Danvers! This may be one of the most original stories I’ve read in quite some time. Myra Danvers is an exceptional story teller who truly excels at world building. She invites the reader into a new vibrant world populated with complex multi-dimensional characters. The story sucked me in from the first page and definitely left me wanting more at the end. I love rooting for strong heroines who fight for what they believe in and I got that in spades in Mila. I am still unsure where Ms. Danvers is going with Asher’s character. Is he our anti-hero or straight up villain? Maybe both? Either way, he had me intrigued. The heat level is pretty low on this one but there’s definite sexual tension which I hope will be explored more in future installments. Overall, this was an extremely enjoyable book and I can’t wait for the next in the series!
Interesting story. Felt that I needed an glossary for this book, to explain what they are and what they yield. A lot of action in this book.
Mila is hiding a secret, a secret even her father doesn’t know the full truth of but has helped her to conceal it in hopes of allowing her to life a normal life. Yet, life as Mila knows it is about to fall apart in just a matter of a few hours. Her encounter with a mysterious soldier seems to confound things even further. Thus a saga begins, can Mila trust herself and the secret she holds, or will she falter and be consumed by the unknown.
This is the first book in a new series. It was recommended to me by others authors and readers of dark romances. I was thoroughly engaged ever step of the way, wanting to know what happened after every since page. I love the world building this author has introduced to us and hope to learn more about it in the next book. I also want to know where our heroine will end, if this mysterious soldier will be a salvation to her or the downfall of everything as she believes him to be. Can’t wait for the next book!
I have been waiting for this debut novel from Myra Danvers for a long time and I as not disappointed. Mila is an intriguing character, and the world Myra is building captured my attention right away. I felt dropped right into the thick of the action, and it as a wild road as I learned things right alongside Mila, as one day significantly alters her entire life. I actually enjoy the time taken to world build, setting the story tensions and landscape quite a bit ahead of romantic entanglements. The slow build and burgeoning connection between Mila and Asher is engrossing. I’m looking forward to the next book!
